Bra fitting help » Gapping in top of cup; size mismatch or shape mismatch?

Issue resolved
Decided that the cups are too tall and shallow...a complete shape mismatch.
Original problem
The top of the cup gaps, although it looks normal from the front view. The gapping is also worse on my larger breast (the right) than it is on my smaller one.
Is this a shape mismatch or a size mismatch? The reason I'm suspicious of a shape mismatch is because the measurements on these cups are pretty close to another bra I have that does fit pretty well, Wacoal Lace Affair in 30DDD, but the Wacoal is definitely more projected in the bottom of the cup.
Do you think I should try a 30E in this color, or would my shape be a better match for the Floral Shimmer? I do like the feel of the band, and this bra is so cute that I'd like to find a size that does work for me.

helpfulThere’s definitely room to size down a cup or two here. All the fit issues you have marked indicate that the cup is too large all around. Straps will be closer set and wires will be narrower in a 30DD or E, and you’ll fill the top and bottom better.

helpfulIf the wires won't sit in your IMF, then going down a cup size is just going to make that worse. So combined with empty space on top and wires being too wide, that makes a shape mismatch. I think you need something better suited for bottom fullness. Have you tried Freya's padded halfcups?

gingerperry Sorry for the late reply. Vertical seams only should be shallower and may also be more open on top.

hurrrrrmione I learned the difference between the 4-part and the 3-part halfcups the hard way. Ordered a Fancies (regular band, not longline) and it fit beautifully. Well, a bit pointy looking from the side, but looks good from the front. Then when I was browsing Amazon for more Freya and Fantasie halfcups, I saw Fantasie Sophia on a really good markdown (only $14), and decided to give it a try. 30E was definitely too open on top, and the 30DD I exchanged it for was way too narrow in the wires. I wanted to love Sophia (that embroidery!), but it's definitely a shape mismatch.

helpfulI think you should size down one cup size to a 30E in this color and reassess your shape then, if that's an option. This bra is definitely too big based on the gaping, wire position, strap position, etc., but I have a hunch that a 30DD will be too small. I have this same colorway in a 28E and my boobs sit similarly in the cup from a shape mismatch, but I think yours are doing it because the bra is too big to support your breasts. I've heard the floral shimmer is better suited to shorter roots and is more closed on top; if that's true, I think if you size down to a 30E in the floral shimmer colorway you may find that the bra cuts into your breast tissue at the top edge of the cup.

I've seen the 30DD dusty rose in person (Nordstrom Rack has one), and it is definitely too small.
And both colors are the same price on Amazon, so I could exchange for the 30E dusty rose, and if that doesn't work exchange again for the 30E floral shimmer.

Are all of Freya's padded halfcups similar in fit, or do the ones with a separate piece for the top half of the cup (Fancies, Daisy) fit differently than the ones that are only vertically seamed (Patsy, Summer Haze)? I've noticed that Freya's current lineup has way more of the former than the latter.
