Bra fitting help » Gapping because cup size, band size, or both?
Freya » Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234) » 30F 30:7
Issue resolved
Thanks everyone! I ordered a 28F and we’ll see how that fits, though I don’t have high hopes because I think moulded bras are probably too wide and shallow for me in general.
Original problem
Being a 28 band and knowing Freya bands run a little big, I know the band of this bra is too big. In the pictures you can see that I have gapping on the top outer sides of the cups. The band did feel comfortable, but someone on ABraThatFits suggested that the cups are too big because the band is too big.
The gore tacks and I like the shape it gives me (or the shape I imagine it would give me if it fit), so I want to exchange it for another size. Would going down a band size to a 28F change the cup volume enough that the cups would fit me, or should I try a 28E? Also, based on my measurements, should I try some 26 bands?
Is this also a shape mismatch? I'm FOB and I believe more projected than shallow, and I get that up-top cup gapping very often. My breasts definitely don't look close-set without a bra on, but I keep having problems with gores being too wide. Forgive me for rambling/not being specific about what I'm asking -- I'm very new to this website and to bra fitting as a whole. Basically, should I exchange for another size or is the fit unfixable because of a shape mismatch, and based on the problems with the Deco, what should I look for in the future?
Thanks so much for any help!

helpfulThe gore seems to wide. How does it's tack feel ? Like at it's place or has to fight laterally for space ?
I guess lower letters and tighter band would allow to apply more tension on the straps and eventually overcme the gaping. However it would also increase the splash.
My opinion is tha this is not necessary the right model, however there are numerous fitting divas in here and I'll be deighted to learn from their advice.
Have a super day,
Mathy

helpfulIf your breasts don't look close set without a bra on, then gore width is not why it won't tack. In any bra with a normal width gore. The gore won't tack here because, seeing your measurements, this bra is likely too shallow for you and your breasts are pushing the bra away from your chest. Sizing down will correct it only if your tissue is super soft enough to be forced to conform to this cup shape. Moulded bras are wide and shallow. I think this is a shape mismatch also.

cupandahalf I don’t have it on right now so unfortunately I can’t be 100% sure, but from what I remember it mostly did tack but it was too wide to sit completely flat. Thanks for your help!

helpfulIf the gapping is only happening in that area where the strap meets the cups, then this is basically a fit. Generally you won’t be able to fill that area in a bra unless the cups fit exactly to your breast shape, something that is nearly impossible.
The real question to ask yourself is, is the bra comfortable after wearing a half hour on a couple of different days? If so, is it comfortable to wear for longer periods? Does the shape work for you even with the straps looser or do you have to tighten them a lot to reduce gapping? Does the band hike up when the straps are looser? Do you fill the cups enough to get the shape you want in shirts? Does the gore separate your breasts uncomfortably?
Honestly to me this bra looks like a pretty good fit, but I’m not wearing it. Comfort and getting the look you want are key to your happiness with the bra. As far as the band goes, someone of your shape and size could sister size down in the band or could find a 28 unbearably tight.
I wonder if some of your feeling of looseness has to do with the plunge aspect- do you feel your center tissue sliding towards the center?
If it is possible to keep this for a while and try a 28FF as well as a 30E, that is what I would do, comparing them all together.

helpfulI've had the same issues with this style. I tried 28FF but it was too wide and tall, with super gapping in the middle, and yet tight around ribs. It just didn't hold me in. 30E the cups start to fall away from me and I get gapping at the top, but I also feel squished inside. Maybe smaller in 28 might fit since you measure a bit smaller around the ribs, but depends on depth. It just feels too big and small at the same time for me.

Roma I just saw someone ranting about moulded style bras in the Adventures section -- they said that moulded bras are a terrible shape match if you're projected instead of shallow. I'm definitely not shallow, so I'm wondering if exchanging it for 28F (what I just did though the 28F won't come in the mail for at least a week) will help or if I'm doomed to gapping with this type of bra.

If they do free returns, maybe order both sizes. If the 30F fits fine everywhere except the top then 28FF should fit the same just tighter around and could help pull the straps back. I'm new too and can't find anything that fits.

http://bra.pe/X0iM/ Here's a link to how the 30E fits me in this style. I have the same side gapping issue at the top. You're taller than me so lengthwise the 28F will fit you better than me, but I found both 30E and 28FF wide at the shoulders and you're narrower than me, so not sure if 28F will be better except if it pulls.the straps back. But it does have the racer back style. See if you can do it up in the 30 because I found the straps too short as well, but maybe because I had to tighten them a lot. Hope that helps some more.
I've been getting advice too about trying soft cup styles with stretch lace at the top, except non-padded doesn't work for me either. Crinkles up no matter the size or just sit on the end with no shape. Padded too shallow but no weird shaping for the most part.

OP said the gore did tack.
