Bra fitting help » Top of side band is too loose, but does fit/size seem on the right track?
Freya » Deco Vibe Moulded Plunge Bra (1704) » 30D 30:4
Issue resolved
I need to look for different styles that aren’t as wide, and possibly a smaller band.
Original problem
This is my first new bra I’ve tried since finding this amazing website and putting in my measurements. I was suggested a 30DD but felt it would be best to try a 30D first. I was actually quite shocked and pleased at how well this fit in the cups (I previously thought I was a 32B or even an A cup), and it is so comfortable! However, as you can see, I have this odd loose top band issue on the side. I’m turning to the experts for help and to verify whether or not I’m even on the right track. I am trying to figure out if I have narrow or wide roots, and more about my breast shape. I’ve always felt they were wide set and shallow, but I’m not sure!

helpfulOh, dear...
From side view wrinkles I would say it's not enough breast projection/volume to push the cups outwards and conteract the inward leverage produced by the straps or the bra is simply like 2 cups wide too optimistic.Updated on October 2, 2019 Flag this

I somehow think the bra is for wider set breasts, so bringing this one down 2 cups could work. Yoy need something that can get them together.
This one has a rather projection killer effect. Does it gap when you release the straps ? Is the wings problem soved then ?
If you have a lingerie store at hand, try before you buy then replicate the findings.

helpfulHmmmm
That band looks stretched out. It is certainly too big for you..

helpfulWelcome to the sub-32 club! Good on you for venturing into the lingerie counter-culture! I remember my first forays into bras that fit better and quickly realized that there was a learning curve in understanding my body, my likes and dislikes, how to put a bra on, and how bras are constructed.
Just from a glance, it does not look as you are wide and shallow. I have said this before but it bears repeating, is that women with a sub-32 band and smaller breasts are often told by lingerie sales people that they are indeed wide and shallow. Sometime this is true, but it does not seem to be the case for you.
Tall breast tissue- yes so you will need to watch out for closed cups.
Close/ average breasts - stay away from wide gores.
And it does look like you need some immediate projection - molded cups tend to be shallower so this will be a trickier bra to pull off for you.
Slim shoulders - placement of straps is important and this bra looks to wide for you. With unlined bras it is easier to make an alteration to adjust for this.Your measurements put you at just above a 28 inch band. This band, based on measurements is too long for you. With some models you may need a 28, some a 30 inch band. I look at the measurement of the stretched band rather than the label. I have bony ribs and personally lean to a "comfortable rib cage" measurement for the band. You will have to get used to a tighter band before you will be able to find a preference that works for you - fit and comfort.
When you get into a bra that provides good projection with the right cup width, I think that you will be surprised at your silhouette. Seek on!

Thank you so much! This is a tremendously helpful answer! I will continue my search and also branch out into some 28 bands. After going from wearing loose 32 bands all my life, even the 30 seems a bit tight, but I know that’s just because I’m not used to it. However, as we can all see, it is clearly not tight enough in this bra. I did try this bra on the tightest hook once before packing it up to return, and the band gap was better, but obviously not enough to make it worth keeping.
I received some bras from Amazon to try today, so I may post one of those for another opinion.
Are there any specific bras you would recommend that I try next?
Thank you again!!

I do not have tons of variety in my lingerie drawer. I am drawn to the unlined Mimi Holliday. The padded bras are too shallow and are too wide for my frame. The shoulder bras were a nice surprise in how much I like them now. I have to watch out for stiff wires given my thin padding on my ribs so watch out for people talking about that feature. Mimi Holliday has flexible wires that work well for me.
I also like Freya unlined models. Once I have the right cup width, I find that the cups are easy to alter to get a custom fit for me. Do not be afraid of a little lace gapping. If the cup width, band, strap placement is all good, a few stitches is well worth the effort especially since Freya has some really fun prints.
I did not notice earlier with the width of the bra, but it looks as if the bottom of the cup wire (the lowest point of the cup) is situated lateral to where I imagine your nipple to be, or the center of your breast mass. It seems that this is what makes the bra too wide for your frame. Perhaps others have better vocabulary for this. Probably does not help that the cup width is 14 cm.

That all makes sense! I am definitely noticing that these cups are way too wide for me (after trying on a few other bras) and seem to make my chest looks very small in comparison. After more research, I also agree that you are right about my projection. I definitely don’t think I’m shallow, but maybe low set. I misunderstood what shallow meant in the world of breasts.
Well, on with the search!!

Thank you for your advice! Do you mean that you think the cups are 2 sizes too large for me, or that this style is just too wide?
