Bra fitting help » 40’s Fail. Need spaced out retro style.

Clearly this is not the bra for me, so how do I find a 40’s retro silhouette for my shape? How can a bra feel tight at the wings and be loose and wrinkled in the cup at the same time? I just learned what a Tail of Spence was, and I think I have a thicker one. I suspect I need cups that are spaced wider apart. My Victoria’s Secret DD cups are on the verge of being too small, so what I try next depends on the manufacturers.
How on earth do I even know which bras have that separated, pointier 40’s shape, especially with cups spaced further apart? (Not going full bullet here, but more that direction than my round T-shirt bras.)

helpfulSome possibilities for a retro shape: Naturana, Rago, Exquisite form, Triumph?
Most of their cups are wider spaced and definitely create a 'vintage' silhouette.Be mindful though, that the sizing on these retro styles is often different - on average, their bands run smaller and the cups run larger, especially in longline styles. So for example a 34DD may correspond with a 32FF/G-ish?
Another nice -but discontinued- model is the Gossard Retrolution.

Oh and What Katie Did, a bit more high end pricing though!Good luck (:

helpfulThe horizontal seam seen in this bra is really crucial for creating a pointy retro shape. Wacoal Retro Lace is a popular one you can check out.
If you'd prefer something less pointy than this, some bras tend to give a pointier shape (like Freya's unlined plunges and plunge balconies), but the shape any bra gives you depends on the interaction between the bra and your breast shape so it all depends.
Edit: Oh and Freya is a UK brand. US 32DD = UK 32DD but US 32DDD = UK 32E

helpfulHere’s the retro lace from Wacoal- I have this bra in 34 DDD, and it is pointier than it looks in these pix. I think the gore and cups in general are too high for me, so you may have the same problem (our vertical measurements are similar).

helpfulHere’s a Rago example. I tried this is 34 C and it definitely made my boobs pointy. Unfortunately this one starts in a 34 band, but Rago/ American Shapewear has many different options with a similar shape.

helpfulThis bra is too big all over. It may run big or VS may run small. Try it down one or two sizes and see if it fits you better.

helpfulYou could maybe try What Katie Did.
UK site which ships internationally:https://www.whatkatiedid.com/collections/vintage-bras

They're more 50s than 40s, but do have one which is specifically named as being a 40s style, but the shape of what you're wearing there isn't too far off many of their styles and they aren't all very pointy bullet bras. I've not tried them myself as I'm way too close set to manage that kind of bra style, but I've heard good things from those who have.
One thing to note however is that they make them as near to authentic as possible and as a result there is very little/no stretch in the bras. They are made with the old +3 / +4 method, in that a 32 band is designed to fit an underbust of 28-29", so keep that in mind when picking a size. They have a page with fitting advice and an international size conversion table on the UK site, couldn't see it on the US site though.

helpfulYou can try panache Andorra in 28f uk. Shape mismatch. Your rib cage measures 28 inches around. Your cups are 7 inches. Your correct bra size is 28f/ff uk. I hope this helps. Good luck!
