Bra fitting help » Any similar bras with more immediate projection?
Fantasie » Memoir Full Cup Side Support Bra (3021) » 36HH 36:12
Issue resolved
I replaced it with bras with more immediate projection (Elomi Matilda, Morgan, Eugenie)
Original problem
The width seems right and the cup volume is almost perfect, but I get quadding on top, wrinkling underneath, and the wires slip about an inch below my IMF due to lack of projection. Are there any similar bras that offer more immediate projection? The straps are also a little too broad for me.

helpfulThe band looks like it is slightly too small on you. If you have an extender at hand, try the bra with it to check if the fit of the cups gets better. Sometimes a too small band can cause the wire to stretch more than it should and make the cup appear more shallow.
If that doesn't solve the issue, then the bra is too shallow for you. I would recommend trying Elomi in your size range they have the best quality, support, fit and are fairly projected in the cups. I recommend Cate a full cup which is similar to this bra, or Matilda (plunge) is also really good.Updated on January 17, 2021 Flag this

The Elomi Matilda was just about perfect! I have it in 38GG so the cup is very snug, the gore is slightly wide, and the band rides up slightly even on the tightest hook, but it was the closest I’ve come to A Bra That Fits in a decade! I’ve also come pretty close with my newly arrived Eugenie in 36J and Morgan in 36HH, but I might swap the latter for a 34JJ because I’m already wearing the 36 on the second to last hook and the cups could also be slightly bigger. Elomi ended up being perfect!

Awesome I'm glad Elomi bras work out for you. I just love them, the support and quality is top notch. Some have stretchier bands than others.

alisa You were right. I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you. It would have saved me another 200 bras! ;_; This bra was a couple of sizes too big and the band was too small. I need a 38G in Fantasie! But yeah, this is what a bra that is too big looks like—the quadding, wrinkles, low wire, and straining band are because the cup is actually two big. Thank you!

helpfulI agree with the other two ladies. I think your main problem here is the band being too tight. I think you would do best with a 38 band. Perhaps even a 40 band is brands like Panache or Ewa Michalak. A band squishing your rib tissue 4 inches is alot of tension on a band and would definitely distort the cups and wires. I believe this is call the "parachute effect." The band is pulled so tight that it makes the bras alot shallower than they actually are. I can't find pictures of you in any other bra for me to compare to. I think you should try this bra in a 38H. When you speak about the band test did you learn of it from Boob Or Bust?

Nope, never heard of that before. I used the ABTF and Bratabase calculators and both actually wanted to put me in a 34JJ. I definitely feel most comfortable in a 36J for most brands especially Elomi, usually 36HH for Panache, occasionally a 34 band for Freya. I have the Elomi Matilda in 38 and the band slides up even on the tightest hook, so I really don’t think I’m a 38 except for the occasional extra snug model.
Now that I’ve tried some bras with better projection, my hunch that the cups were too shallow seems to have been right! The band itself wasn’t too tight on this model, which I double checked with the upside down test. I just needed more immediate and overall projection. I think the Fantasie wires are a little flimsy, as well.
I have 5+ Inch difference in my bust perimeter when standing vs bending over, so apparently that much projection can really require a lot of cup room and make correct band sizes appear too small.

helpfulThe wrinkles might be from the band being too tight and artificially making the cups shallower. But judging by the cup depth and perimeter measurements, you can possibly try a cup size up. You might just need a sister size up.

I tried two other very similar bras by Fantasie in 36J and they were way too big in the top, straining in the middle, and wrinkled/unfilled in the bottom. All the bras fit really well with the backward test but got pushed down way below my IMF and didn't fill out the bottom or top properly.

Thanks. I have definitely had the best success for the most part with Elomi, but there’s sometimes extra gaping up between my underarms and the outer part of the straps. I think my problem is that I’m full on bottom and inner full/a little close set. Gores rarely tack for me, underwires are often too wide, and I frequently have issues with the cups wrinkling on the bottom because they don’t have enough immediate projection. I’ve got some Elomi models in the mail but if they don’t work I may have to go Polish.
