Bra fitting help » Not sure where to go from here, shape mismatch or cups still too small?
Elomi » Charley Underwire Stretch Lace Plunge Bra (4382) » 34JJ 34:14
Okay so now that I’m in the correct cup size, I think, I definitely need a 32 band and shorter wires. I think the issue was that I didn’t have enough space in the cups and that was making the band look like it was too tight. I noticed I’m getting some wrinkling near the bottom of the sides of my breasts but the whole cup is filled and maybe some slight muffin top but I really don’t want to go up another cup size 🫠 I will admit I do feel supported and held up though . I tried on 32JJ and the cups were definitely too small

Try loosening the straps a whole lot, leave them loose, scoop and swoop into the cups, then reposition the back of the band so it's level with the front--then readjust the straps veeery cautiously, I'm talking way less than you're used to... JUST enough so they're not falling right off the shoulder. Then re-scoop into the cups if you need, lift arms, hop up and down a bit or whatever you normally do to test a bra's "anchoring power", and then see what has happened with regard to cup fit and whether the band is still riding up at the back or not.
A lot of full-busted people are accustomed to overtightening their bra straps (this practice may also be encouraged by in-store fitters, who tend to tighten straps to the max when you're trying on a bra, probably thinking that impressive "lift" will get them more sales...) It makes sense considering how few people really have optimally fitting bras: getting the straps as tight as possible is the only way to get a little bit of uplift.
However, once you're actually in a bra that is a good fit or close to fitting, overtightening can throw things off quite a lot--it can hoist up the band at the back, and apply too much vertical tension to the whole bra cup, sometimes causing quadding and poking wires.
If you can eliminate this as a factor, and you're still getting cup overflow, cups oriented east-west, wire discomfort, or band ride-up at the back, then you'll know you need a different size, a different bra design or both.

Platypants did the band ride up in the back as soon as you scooped, before you put the straps up on your shoulders?
-
wendybien yes because I hadn’t even tightened the straps yet. I just tried on the Matilda again in 32K and it fits. I’d just prefer for it to be a tad lower under the arms though. Not sure if that’s even possible at this size and when I’m barely over 5’1 lol

Platypants the Matilda is definitely a more versatile fit for anyone in the H+ cup range especially if they are petite. It's my daughter's all time favorite bra and she is barely 5ft! She has tried the Charley and other Elomi cuts with stretch lace or a shallow upper cup, they just don't feel secure/firm enough for her.
The Matilda cup and wing definitely go up quite high under the arms but if the cup size is an exact fit, you should hopefully be able to get the cup edge to sit comfortably -- it may require playing with the height of the J-hook though (assuming you're wearing it as a racerback because your shoulders are small).
Is your Matilda 32K in US sizing or is that UK sizing? -
wendybien 32K in UK sizing 😅 are there any similar styles that might work for me that also have the lower cup?

Platypants ok so looking at your other Bratabase entries, you went from the Matilda 32J, which was kind of a tight squeeze, to 32K? Skipping over 32JJ? I wonder if 32JJ might be the optimal size, cup probably would work but it would end a bit lower under the arm.
Do you have issues with the cup edge or wing cutting into your armpit, or breast tissue that is in/near the armpit? -
wendybien i tried on 32J which was way too small, 32JJ which also fit kind of small, tried 34JJ and the cups fit better but the band was too big/cups were a little shallow then sister sized to 32K. I do have issues with it cutting into boob if I don’t get them completely in the cup. I just don’t like how high up it comes
wendybien didn’t have the straps tightened/on my shoulders until I fully adjust otherwise it makes actually getting the bra on significantly more difficult. The band felt snug on this until I swooped and scooped then it was too loose. I tried 32JJ and 32J the cups were definitely too small so I have 32K coming in the mail
