Bra fitting help » band length correct? cup correct? gore causes intense itchiness.
Wacoal » Unknown Model » 32D 32:4
Before finding "abrathatfits.org" last week, I wore a 34B. Now I tried a 32D. I'm wearing it on the middle hooks, because the loosest hook feels a little too loose. The right breast fills out the cup except there is some loose fabric underneath where the strap starts on the front. I'm wondering if I should try a 30DD for band length, and if the cup is the right size for me. I tried this same bra in 32C, and the cup underwire felt too small somehow. The center gore causes a LOT of itchiness; so much that I may not be able to wear this bra. The straps feel too far apart, but that is something I have always had trouble with as I think my shoulders are pretty narrow compared to other women. I have trouble with dresses and shirts for this same reason. I cannot wear spaghetti strap anything. I'm looking for general feedback, as this is my first foray into seriously trying to find bras that fit. Thank you so much. This is a wonderful website.

helpfulTBH, this bra puts you in a difficult place fit-wise. The straps of this bra are center-pull (closer-set than many other styles, like a demi bra). At the same time, you're not filling out the top of the cups. This could be b/c the bra is the wrong cup size. However, if you are a shorter, more petite person, you will need to look for cups that are shorter as well.
see this video about Gore fit https://youtu.be/deC_B4115LM?si=lly16azjhtCG0LDX
It's difficult to fit that type of cup (molded).
EDIT: THIS
Is a really good video from the HerRoom Bra Fit Series on Youtube (which I just rediscovered last night) re: BRA STRAPS falling down.https://youtu.be/Zd3YRBUI_VU?si=R01ntjZqzEXARIgN
REALLY GOOD INFO.
You might want to consider either a racerback or a V-back to keep your straps in place if you are petite, or small-framed. At the very least, consider a bra with a leotard back with "kicked in" straps (I believe my Comexim bras fit like this), as explained in the above video.
hope that helps!!

great video on bra construction and bra strap slippage. Why don't all bra manufacturers use these techniques. I'd like to see a survey on how many women have slippage and with which bras!

helpfulYou can try the 30D and 30DD and maybe even 28DD. Use "a bra that fits calculator"
You may be more comfortable in a sister size.

Thank you for the feedback. Wacoal does not offer anything below a 32 in this model, but I see that there are other models or brands that do. Why did you suggest these other sizes? Do you think going down in band size will solve the gore itchiness or irritation issue? Thank you so much.
-
P.S. I did try the "bra that fits calculator" both on the Reddit thread (calculation manually), and the website abrathatfits.org, as well as the more in depth calculator provided on this site where bras that others are tried were recommended. All three seemed to harmonize that my size is 32D.

B tempted by wacoal is wacoal brand but for younger generations.
I can add more here in a bit though.
You'll want to search "less band more cup comfort bra"
-
Oh, also if it's too late to return the bra, wash it the first time by hand in hot water and dry with heat. Use half a tea spoon to soften the bra some or even half a teaspoon of distilled vinegar.
It will shrink some. Low or medium heat in the dryer should be fine for about 40 minutes or so.
Every wash after this, you'll want to wash by hand and hang to dry.
I use shinesty laundry sheets for my bras. I cut them into 12 pieces so $10 lasts an entire year for all of my lingerie and socks

Thank you for all of the information! Sorry to ask this again, but I want to place an order on Bare Necessities, but I don't want to do so until I hear back from you or others regarding the gore issue.
Do you think going down in band size will solve the gore itchiness or irritation issue? Thank you so much.

Also, when you suggested searching with the phrase "less band more cup comfort bra", did you mean search on this website, or on google? I searched on both and didn't come up with much that felt relevant to this conversation, or perhaps I don't even know, what I don't know, yet.... lol.

I think the gore is too high for you or it wouldn't be irritating. Have you tried a plunge bra? If you're shopping at bare hang on a sec. I'll be back with a bra in your size that I know is comfortable with center panel.
HerRoom has specific settings to search for all the necessities you need in a bra such as short center panel (use the filter option) but DO NOT under any circumstance order from them. They make stuff up like if a bra doesn't fit and you send it back they'll say there was glitter or deodorant on it.
-
Natori feathers 32D or 30DD (you'll need to search specific measurements here)
Freya fancies (size up in the band down in the cup)
Skarlett blue goddess (it's really soft and comfy)Start here if the center gore is bugging you if you're needing a bra to get you by until you can try on more to get the exact height center panel that you need figured out.
-
Also, put in that you wear a size 30D in wacoal. It will tell you what size you need in each country cup like I'm a g but I'm an E or F in other brands. Bare is really good at telling you which size equals whatever you wear in a specific brand

Natori pure luxe t shirt bra in 32D will probably be a good fit for you too if you're looking for a tee shirt bra.

It took me probably a week to get used to higher center panel after wear scoop the cuup for 3 months straight so it could just be that you need to adjust.
Make sure you're scooping and swooping. This can also affect how the center lays.
Other than this, look for bras that have arched center panels.
I haven't tried them yet, but I'm playing an order this week for Comexim as soon as I have my size narrowed down (you could probably do 32DD in Comexim) but they have really comfortable bras as well (fitter approved bra website breakout bras. All of their bras are fitter approved but I don't really like them because I don't do well with seamed cup bras)
-
Shaniabunch22, I rewatched the scooping and swooping and tried it out. I think it might help with the gore a little bit as the gore doesn't sit as flat on my sternum after doing the scooping and swooping, but the change is very minimal. I can tell the gore will still cause irritation after wearing it for only a few minutes after scooping and swooping again. This bra can't be returned as you said, so I will keep wearing it to see if my body can adjust, like yours. After wearing it for two days already, I can say that the straps have also become more irritating...not from rubbing like the gore, but just from feeling like they will fall down, and me noticing that I'm "holding" muscles to prevent them from doing so.
I checked out the Comexim website and picked out several using the index sizing on this website for the basic plunge bra https://www.bratabase.com/browse/comexim/basic-plunge-bra-170/.
my index size (32:4, 32:5) would equal a 70D and 70E.I did like the look of a few Natori bras that I saw on the Bare website.
Thanks for your recommendations:
Natori feathers 32D or 30DD (you'll need to search specific measurements here)
Freya fancies (size up in the band down in the cup)
Skarlett blue goddess (it's really soft and comfy)
Natori pure luxe t shirt bra in 32DI should probably try a Wacoal 30D before I use it for the Bare website, is what I'm gathering from your suggestions. I guess that is a good place to start rather than buying a whole bunch. Why do you recommend using a 30D in Wacoal but sticking with 32D with other brands like Natori?

Wacoal (for me anyways) tends to be really loose in the straps. Put your bra on backwards with top of the cups facing down towards the floor and do this https://imgur.com/JV6ZhxT
My bras are way too big for me but I prefer them this way.
If it stretches more than 2 inches it's definitely too big for you and you may be more comfortable sizing up (which is actually down a number) but keep in mind. You're a 32D so you'll need a 30DD or 34C. Always change the cup size with the number unless it's like comexim and you want more or less coverage. Natori is way more shallow than wacoal which is why I suggest sizing down (up) the more shallow the bra, the bigger the cup you'll need to get the right projection needed. For brands in UK sizing you'd need a couple cup sizes smaller because not all countries use the same sizing method. The more you look into specific bras and brands here the more you'll learn. Make sure you're looking at exact measurements. What fits you in wacoal 32D may not fit you in (also, stay away from full coverage until you learn everything you can about bras because the more full coverage a bra is the taller the center panel, in my experience.) and if youre ordering comexim look at my recent post. Comexim sizing is so weird and 2 cup sizes smaller than they should be (1 cup if you want less coverage)
Padded straps can help with your strap issue, but you probably need your straps moved in some. When you look at bras, look at how close the back band is to the bra clasps in the back. The closer they are, the better chances of the straps being more close set. The further they are, the further set they'll be and could fall off your shoulders. For now, add a homemade J Hook with a paperclip or something to keep them in place. $60 for a bra is fairly expensive so if you can find a bra seamstress in your area it may be worth visiting them. They can probably fix it for around $5 in every area you need changes. For a couple more they'll probably even be willing to add a layer of soft fabric to the straps on the part that touches you.
I think this covers everything. Mainly just not all bras are created equally or with the same stretch.

helpfulI would say this bra is a no go for you based on its structure. I agree with you that the 32C size is too small in the cup for you. However, the height of the gore is on the tall side. Through my own bra journey, I have definitely found that I need to look at this measurement before I buy a bra or the bra is irritating or down right painful. I like a 5 cm or less gore. You'll have to find out what your body likes. There is also the consideration of how stiff the wires are. I am not familiar with Wacoal bras on this point. I do know that if the wires are too stiff for me it does not matter what the height of the gore is as it will be painful.
I loved the video on bra straps included in your feed back. It outlines why I personally like some bras and not others based on the structure and how it affect the bra straps sliding off my shoulders. This bra has the straps angling out in the front and are wideset in the back in that camisole style. It is not your shoulders' fault the straps are slipping off but the structure of the bra.
In regards to the bra not being filled at the top, again this is a structure thing. The bra cups are too tall. Even visually looking at the proportions of your torso and the bra, the bra cups are too large for your frame and for the ladies. The cups also splay your breast tissue out to the side a bit which does not seem necessary for you.
In term of band length, remeasure you and the bras to get comfortable with accuracy and understanding bra structure. With different lingerie brands, you will oscillate between a 30 and a 32.
General feedback! Good luck with your bra journey and congrats on getting out of a 34B

I know that some brands have a J-hook in the back to keep the straps in place, but it kind of annoys my back/shoulders.
