Bra fitting help » Wire Pain. Shape mismatch??
Comexim » Basic Half Cup » 55H 26:8
Issue resolved
Try bras with a different shape, shorter and narrower cups w/ more projection
Original problem
The outer wire cuts into me so much on this bra. It's immediately noticeable. I also noticed gapping right at the center gore in the cup. I would like to better understand why the shape of this bra doesn't work for me and what I should be looking for in the future (assuming it's mostly a shape issue). Thoughts?

helpfulDo you have breast tissue bulging out on the side where you feel like the wire is cutting in? Also, what is your horizontal fullness, are you outer full? A good way to tell is to lean forward (90 degree angle) and see where your nipples point to. If they point inwards, you’re outer full. If that’s the case, that would be a shape mismatch for you and would also explain why you gap at the center gore. Maybe a Comexim plunge in a 55G/26F could be a better fit. But, I feel like more angled pictures from the sides could help confirm this. Also, did you scoop and swoop?

Littlemermaids if you’re inner full, we’re more similar than I thought! Well, molded cups will never quite “move” with you. Changes in posture will always result in some gapping, one way or another. So, after scooping and swooping, did the cutting in on the sides improve? And also, did you try the A Bra that Fits calculator, and if so, what are your measurements? I noticed your breast perimeter is 19 cm, me too! We are very, very similar. I haven’t tried 55H/26FF because I like the cleavage boost/cakes on a plate look and a full coverage look is not quite my style, so I can’t comment on how the size you’re trying fits me (for comparison). Your front picture looks great to me, and the one from the side too. I see the very tiny gap on your gore area, but I’m thinking that might be because of your posture when taking the picture (like, were you standing up straight?). I guess if you have someone else take your side shots or using a timer on your phone camera, your pictures will let us evaluate your fit better. Also, a picture of the gore area from your point of view might help appreciate the gap you’re talking about, because if you’re center full, I’m surprised there is a gap at all. And finally, if you can wear the bra for an hour or so, take a look at how the underwire rests on your rib cage. Does it sit right on your inframammary folds? The marks left by the underwire will show any empty spaces (if any) and is a great way to determine if the 3HC in this size is right for you. Sorry for the essay! I’m just so intrigued because you seem like my boob twin!

No! Dont feel bad. This is helpful! And, I've been hoping to find others who are similar! So, this is great!
That's fair about the molded cups! Honestly, I may have to give it a test try again. I also bought a plunge in a 55H and discovered throughout the day (after posting this) that I needed to move it up higher to sit in the folds and on the sternum like it should. It really changed the fit too. I could tell it was too low only after the marks became visible.
So, it really could be an issue of posture and placement with this bra! This is my first time being in a band tight enough for me. There seems to be a bit of a learning curve to figuring out how to wear it right after being in the wrong size for so long. I'm just used to it I suppose.
The calculator ended up putting me in about a 26E for the measurements I listed below.
Standing: 78 cm / 30.71 inches
Laying: 77 cm / 30.31 inches
Leaning: 82.5 cm / 32.5 inches
Tight: 61.5 cm /24.2 inches
Comfy: 64 cm / 25.2 inches
Loose: 68 cm / 26.8 inches -
Littlemermaids it’s nice to find someone so similar :) I sometimes feel like an outlier, and “uncommon”. And our measurements are very close! I also am 26E. And yes! You gotta place your bra in the right spot before you hook it, especially if your band is now snug/tight. Wherever you hook it, that’s where it will stay! The way I do it: place the underwire directly under my breasts/right on my inframammary folds, and then hook it. That way, I’m sure the underwire is where it should be. If you struggle with hooking it from the back, you can place your bra at your waist (slimmer spot, it’s easier) and then lift it up to where it should be. Try either method, scoop and swoop, and accommodate your tissue accordingly. See if that suits your shape better, and then check for the underwire marks. They should follow your folds perfectly (or almost), with no significant empty spaces.

Check out this bra blogger’s review on Comexim Eris 3HC: https://themusingsofrenzilla.wordpress.com/2023/07/03/comexim-eris-3hc-65g/
Scroll down to her underwire marks pictures. That’s how they should look like!

Thanks for the link to this and the information on rib cages. Those definitely help. My last wear I was able to correctly place the bra much easier.

Littlemermaids so the marks on the front look good 👍🏻 but I see there’s empty space on the sides… looks like the wire is a little wide for you. I saw you got a plunge in 55H, how do those wires look? It seems to me that you need a narrower wire (plunges are narrower than 3HCs) and more projection at the apex, which Comexim’s plunges offer. I’ve heard that it’s recommended to size down in their plunges though, so try a 26F/55G for their plunges, see if that helps!

helpfulYou do not have a good profile picture, but I would say that the odds of having a too large cup width is high. I know when I have wires that are too far apart such that they sit on my ribs, it is painful. Your torso appears more circular in shape whereas this bra is more suited to an oval, or wide in the front torso. There are different body shapes! ALso there may not be enough projection in this cup which pushes breast tissue out to the side, this could be part of the problem especially as the cups are high on the lateral edge. Have a close look at what is happen on the sides for more insight. As mentioned, have a look at the wire marks after wearing the bra for a while. What does that tell you?

I added a few more photos in the hopes it could help in the troubleshooting process! I noticed that this bra kind of "tricks" you on the wire height near the wing. It sits quite lower than it appears to if you are looking at where the stitching ends as a reference for wire height. I did notice that when I measured the bra, but I didn't consider the impact while wearing it. I think the height here could possibly be leading to some of the tissue escaping up into my armpit above it.

there still is not a good profile shot of you for the wire width. However, the photos do indicate that the cups are too small. This correlates with the measurements that you provided. Also looks like the straps are adjusted too short. Loosen them up a bit and see if there is more room for breast tissue. I do not know about the wire being low on the side given the picture angles but the cups themselves look too tall for your proportions. The lateral skin marks do show the wires as too wide.

I do scoop and swoop! It's made a huge difference in fit and comfort. Even with that, I am still noticing a bit of a gap when the tissue settles, especially as I move around. It's also like the cup doesn't want to move with my body if that makes sense? I feel like they are fighting each other, but I don't understand why. It's like I'm pushing the cup away. They don't seem to "mold" to each other. That's why I suspected a shape issue?
When I lean over, my nipples tend to point outward. So, this would be inner full?? With that, it would have made me believe the projection at the inner gore would have made it a match, right?? What kind of angled pictures do you have in mind? I can try and take a few more.
