I took my best friend (I'll refer to her as Midnight) bra shopping the other day. She's was in a 38C and it was the way wrong size. I guessed at a 32D, since her ribcage is just bigger than mine, but her back is less muscular.
We went into a shop that carried quality A-DD lingerie, and it was a ... disaster. The lady fit based on what shirt size you wore, and said that since she sold up to a FFcup, she 'carried every size available on the market'. She looked at me like I was nuts when I said I'm probably an H cup. Anyhow, she brought Midnight out a 36C and declared she needed a 36B, as the cups gapped. I checked, and the band was massive, and the cups slightly large. I requested the next two band sizes down. The lady resolutely brought a 36B, despite my request, and declared it fit much better, with less gapping. I, again, requested a smaller band size. She brought out a 34C, which fit slightly better but the band still rode up (just from putting it on) and the cups still gapped. We had issues with back fat from the band riding up. Because of this, the lady refused to give us a smaller band, rather, loosened the straps all the way and simply pulled the band down. Of course, this made the cups gap, so she returned with a 34B, which was declared to be Midnight's perfect size. The band was on the tightest hooks, the straps lengthened completely, the gore did not touch her chest and the underwires cut her breasts in half. I pointed these out and was told the bra fit perfectly and the deal with the underwire is a 'minor issue' and 'not going to affect the fit'.
After this, she tried to sell us a damaged bra (the bridge was ripping away from the underwire) at full price. When I pointed out her bra was damaged, she said bras were meant to be pretty, and the slight rip would in no way detract from its usefulness. We left immediately.
I took her to Brava lingerie (which specializes in D-K cups) and asked for a saleslady to fit Midnight, explaining what we had gone through, and proceeded to ask after a fitting for myself (hoping to get rid of the under-breast wrinkles). Unfortunately, I had no luck as the lady didn't think I needed a larger cupsize (although I did find one bra that ran slightly large in the cups that fit relatively well). Midnight walked out with three bras in a 32DD and a much better understanding of what her breasts need in a bra.

I get the orange in the glass a lot even though the wires are too wide for me at the top. So this is my conclusion - even though the wires are too wide generally, they dont follow the curvebof my boobs - at the bottom they should bi wider, and more narrow at the top. I literally need U shaped wires. The other thing is that there is not enough room at the bottom of the cup - because of the construction of the cup, my boob is pushed up and at the bottom Im left with free space and incompatible wires. I guess if there were enough room, my boobs would conform to the wire shape and would sit where they are supposed to, but still - its not my natural shape. To conclude, I think we are to blame the wires first, and then maybe the cup construction.
On the root thing, yes, I think all large boobies have a wide root - they certainly have a wider root than most average sized ones.
On the pendulous thing - i think all gg+ cups are bound to sag, gravity is the name of the game. For me, pendulous breasts are ones that have lost their firmness and are somehow got longer. Sort of like a tennis ball in a sock. There is a difference between pointing and sagging down, and in my book its called firmness. I don't think that's got anything to do with full on tops, if anything, I think full on bottoms are more likely to sag.
But hay, I do think all boobs are beautiful so I dont think it's a really relevant question :)
As for the migration and armpit boobage, stil kind of puzzled by those. I think I migrated some backfat, but one can't be sure :)
Looong answer:
Thanks for that explanation, I think both your conclusion and your explanations was very understandable :)
You asked me what bras I wear. Panache Andorras are my simple answer.
July: Andorra 32H
August: Andorra 32J
Septbember: Andorra 34J
Now trying Andorra 36J
But I've realized today Andorra really has narrow wires. I think it might fit you as well as it seems to fit everybody, but also because I would say at least in the 36J it really has U-shaped wires and a very narrow gore.
I suppose the main issue for you with wires being too wide on top is stability, right? I can totally see why you hate CK. I for my part probably want to try out CK again.
Since I'm used to be able to go without a bra and still make it look good under clothing I think stablity isnt really an issue for me at all. As long as my boobs are allowed to sit where they sit I don't have a lot of jiggle.
But put on wires and everything changes. Then suddenly my boobs are lifted up and out and out from my body and everything goes terribly wrong. The are simply not done to point out. The are done to sit very compressed and spread out their volume all over my chest. With a too deep bottom section and with straps not tightened my boobs just disappear down and out and it simply makes no bra fit at all.
I can try a bra and just want to spread it and flatten it allover my chest.
So I tried this alteration with a friend today on my old way too small 34F Pollyanna. http://dressingcurves.blogspot.se/2012/03/alterations-moving-strap-position.html When I did tighten the straps in the new position the cups was immidiately flattened and my volume was allowed to spread.
So I will now try CK bras again as I do think their wires are the widest in the bottom.
One of the reasons I want to know the difference between boobs pointing down and pendulous is because I want to understand how I should name the shape of my boobs. It's not easy explaining my shape with the options I have for shapes on Bratabase.
I kind of want to click "rather empty" but I don't know if that would be misleading. A little empty and a little pendulous might be the best way to describe it all.
I think the way to best describe soft breasts must be some extra skin right? And that also goes for what you call pendulous?
Teenagers often have firm boobs for example. I've never ever had that. I just had fat boobs. I've had a lot of issues with my boobs for that as I wanted typically round firm and protruding boobs. And for me it simply wasn't until this last year I've started to questioning my views about it all.
I've been a fat acceptance activist for years, it's not until this year I've started to realise it's time to learn to accept other parts of the body as well.
But I suffer from cacophobia - the fear of uglyness - so for me it's harder. Like for me touching something I don't like on a body can make me feel just as disgusted as if I would clean the sink or something. So I will just have to gradually learn to accept things I find ugly. That's what I did about fat, and then suddenly I learned to see the beauty of a fat body and so it continues. Apart from most of the world I am at least aware of my conceptions of beauty being a little screwed and having tecniques to relearn.
So I love when you say you think all boobs are beautiful, because that's the way to learn to love bodies. I think your view of boobs are beautiful <3
