Asymmetry and overlapping wires
I'm doing a gore alteration and want to overlap the tops of the wires. Which wire should go on top? The one next to the bigger boob or the smaller?

65J Mixed Colors 3HC with overlapping gore and straps moved in 2cm
http://bra.pe/XTlg/pictures/
Measurements up! The Mixed Colors is wider in the cup than usual. It's 6". The Magic is 5.5" which is better for me. The neck edge binding is causing slight quadboob and the gores aren't ... tacking at the top, despite being very narrow. Not sure if due to PMS boob gain or not. Will delve further in the next day. Next time I am probably going to go with 65K with straps moved in 4cm.
I'm not sure whether to deal with the whole neck edge binding problem like I do with my Freya Deco, or decide to only go for bras where there probably won't be any. Compromises!

So pretty!!!
Wow, mixed colors looks much better "in person". I thought it looked hideous in stock photos, but it's a fun print. Looking forward to measurements :)

I feel like I need 4cm. My shoulders are so narrow! Only about a hand's width on each side before my arm starts
Would they do that?

Yes! They absolutely will. I always ask for mine to be moved in 3cm for the half cups and it's never been a problem. Just keep in mind that when you move the strap inward, the cup becomes a bit smaller in width. This is perfect for me because it also removes a lot of bulky fabric that would've been up in my underarms. However, I've read that some women prefer to go up one cup size to keep a little more fabric near the underarm area. Like anything else, it will vary based on anatomy and personal preferences, so it may require a bit of testing to see what works best for you. Hope this helps. :)
Anya99 Thanks :)
My Mint Half Cup in 65J had straps moved in 2cm, with an overlapping gore and looked like this:
http://media.bratabase.com/cache/f0/e9/f0e980bf4d5679a2f8bf7bbe71a38990.jpg
It actually came a sister size tighter in the band (grr), so I'm using an extender with it. I got the same size and alterations in a 3HC Otylia and the band fitted fine, so I'll stick with 30s.
Sometimes they feel like they're on the verge of being too small in the cup, but my roots are ever so narrow. Do you reckon I should go for a 65K and then ask for the straps to be moved in 4cm?

So recently I've bought 30F - Cleo » Marcie Babydoll (6835) and fits almost perfect ! The cups seems more like Something between E-F rather than F (comparing it to Lucy and Marcie in 34D). The only issue is the band that I can close but feels little too tight as for sleeping. I will not have ... a use of it as a babydoll, however I'd definitely keep as a bra and use it with extender.
My question is , did anyone tried to detach this babydoll part ? It's sewn in the band, but if I'd cut it carefully would this affect the bra later with loose threads or anything like that? It wasn't very expensive so that's the reason why I'd like to try. Btw I'd exchange it for normal bra in black or bordeaux colour

This Curvy Kate is designed differently, but I just used fabric shears to trim the tulle as close to the band as I could. I orginally thought the seam ripper would be a better idea, but scissors were much faster and significantly less effort.

Hello, fairy Ladies,
Today I would request your help before order some bras from Comexim . Let me list all my questions :
1/ Should I mail Anna with the alterations I would have on my bras before write it in the comment box of the order ?
2/ I'm not sure about the size. I think I need a ... 70 (my measurements totally match with that size in the Comexim size's chart) but for the cup, I need the equivalent of a KK cup but I'm not sure if Comexim can do that size.
So, do you think it's possible ?
3/ Concerning the alterations, I think I could use overlapping wires, to have a gore no larger than 1,7 cm (0,7 inch) and a lower gore (VERY close set boobs). Did some of you ordered that kind of alteration ?
I wonder also few things :
- It is possible to ask for a particular wires width, like no more than 15,5 cm cup width ?
- It is possible to ask for a precise band length ?
- It is possible to ask for wires that are not height on the side ? I'm very high on chest with short roots, when wires are to hight it causes blues and a lot of pain.
4/ It is possible to ask for more projection at the bottom on a 3HC ?
Thanks you for all the help you provide, girls, it helps so much,
Love from France xoxox

I think you can ask for a specific band lengt and a particular wire width. I don't know about the wire height, or the projection at the wire.
I also don't know if they'd make a gore as low as 1.7cm. In 65G a reduced gore is still about 2.25 inches (6.35 cm?). IF they did lower the gore that much it would effect the cup.
Also, I've never emailed about alterations, but it doesn't hurt. I'm sure Anna will tell you to write it in the comments section, but maybe if you email first, they'll actually do the requests that you ask.
I have no idea of how @Comexim can do all those alterations but God, that s good news ! Thank you for your answer @Prettyncharmeuse

Thanks to an excellent suggestion from @lvp, I now have flexible wires to swap into bras with hard uncomfortable wires. My first *cough* victim was my Fauve Lavinia, which gaped comically big on me. HOWEVER, after I swapped the wires out, I found that I only had to pinch the gore together to get rid of the egregious gaping! Which ... means I don't have to fold the cup over to make it fit! Yay, less work for me! Probably this means that the bra will be a bit too wide, but that's ok. *rubs hands in glee*
AND now it has me thinking about my Fauve Dali, which only gapes a little on my smaller side. Swapping in shorter wires makes pinching the gore much easier, which should get rid of all gaping. )))) AND THEN I'm thinking maybe I'll take those wires (since Dali's wires are nice and soft) and put those in my Masquerade Rhea, whose hard and deep U wires are not super comfortable for me. And as long as I'm hacking the Rhea, I'll swap out the satin straps for something stretchy, because I hate the unstretchy straps that are simultaneously too tight and too loose to stay on my shoulders. Yuck. (The band needs altering down too, ha.)
And everything I do to my Fauve Lavinia, I'll need to do to my Fauve Isla. (Which, of course, includes band alterations because SIGH stretchy 30s aren't fun for my 26 inch bust.)
Ooooo, and of course, my Fauve Chloe needs soft wires too, but that might change the fit enough that I'll have to redo the cup alterations. That's ok, the current alteration is kind of flattening and unflattering because I shaped it (a too big cup) while I was standing in it, which was DUMB, because shaping to standing breasts provides no lift.
So much to do!

I wish you were closer to my size and I would take those Masquerade wires off your hands. I'm looking for some panache wires, but closer to 6.5 or 7 inches wide.
Perfect, also the flexible wires are pretty bendable so maybe you can make them a touch less wide. I have been thinking about switching the straps on on of my super elastic strapped bras too . It's fun to customize your bra and bra fit just wait till you think about changing design details it's fun to think about.

Hi Ladies, I'm new in this Holy Graal quest. I often read in your reviews than some bras have an alteration called "reduced cup", I'm not sure to totally understand what it means... Could you explain for a lost padawan ? Thanks for all those interesting things you share, that's very useful

If you look at my review of my 80M - Comexim » Coco (381) , you'll see that I have so much extra cup at the top that I actually dropped a small tub of lip balm in, to try to demonstrate it. I'm told that 'reduced cup' gets rid of that. I think Comexim's sizing proportions kinda go off the rail in bigger sizes.
But also, people can get comexims customized in all sorts of ways to fit their bodies more exactly
It reduces the cup height of the bra. Comexim will only really do reduced cup on a padded plunge (a few people may have managed to get a reduced half cup, but they usually won't do it). I did a comparison on their altered and unaltered bras, one has reduced cups. Here is the link to my blog post. https://mythoughtsonbras.blogspot.com/2016/06/comexim-plunge-altered-vs-standard.html

Interesting. One thing I've considered trying is just taking in the bottom of the gore. This angles the wires differently to allow more room for center fullness, but shortens the band. I cant sew at all, but I keep being tempted w my Ewa Michalak S - but its my favorite bra (despite me falling out the center a few times a day) so I'm afraid to mess with it.
I'd try it. So easy to remove and just a few stiches to narrow the bottom :-)

Does anyone besides me replace wires in their bras? I would like to buy firm, Panache-like wires somewhere to replace in my bras with wires that are too wide/flexible. Preferably I am looking for wires that are 7-7.5 inches wide, although a little wider or narrower would probably be fine.

Depends where you live . Panache uses a vertical wire so you want to look for that term . There is bra makers supply out of Canada , a few suppliers on etsy( though the bliss wires are soft and flexible so you don't want those if you like panache) sweet cups has the vertical wire in the usa and make bra has underwires similar to ewa's so narrow but flexible . B.wear I think that is the company is in Europe has vertical underwires as well . You will have to print out the wire chart and compare their wires to yours you have or a breast root trace you make . Most of the sites will tell you how to pick a size . Don't go off the bra size listed they use US size go of the charts .

It's been a while since I visited Bratabase. Mainly because I still had trouble finding a bra that really fits and it frustrated the hell out of me.
For half a year now, I've been wearing two completely altered Freya Deco Moulded Soft Cup Bra (4231) with the best fit I've ever felt. I can move around in them, lie ... down and even exercise. I can actually wear them all day long and hardly feel they are there. This was new to me after experiencing years of chafing, poking, bras sliding down and not very well supported breasts, even after I discovered Ewa Michalak and Comexim, which at least seemed to work better in the beginning.
Frustration led to a plan to design my own bras, while altering the Deco Soft Cups to wear in the meantime. However, after finishing the alterations, I discovered that this was exactly the fit I had been looking for! This is what it looks like now: 28G - Freya » Deco Moulded Soft Cup Bra (4231) I dressed it up as well, using the fabric of my pretty but useless Comexim Yoko Half Cup (377) . The other one is still in the original black color. I purchased some new Deco Soft Cup bras and will alter them the same way and use the fabric of my old EM's and Comexims for the pretty color designs

If I order a Basic 65H and ask that the cup be reduced by 2 cm and the gore height by 2 cm as well, does that mean that the cup depth would be smaller? And measure like a Basic 65G?
It will reduce the cup height and apex projection, but it won't change the immediate depth (projection at the wire). If you are full on top you may notice the reduction (quadding).
Has anyone ever removed the wires in a regular balconette bra to make a lounge bra? I have an old bra that I'm considering doing this to, but I wanted to find out how it might turn out from anyone else who has done it. If the result is not worth it, then I don't want to bother cutting it ... so I can pass it on to someone else.
*Note: I'm not looking for any recommendations for lounge bras -- I've tried lots and have a perfectly wonderful Decent Exposures bra to wear around the house. I am just looking for a way to make an old bra more useful to me.

I took a wire out of one of my bras (gorgeous bra) and replaced it with a plastic wire (obv not the same as what you're asking), but it turned the bra essentially into a wireless fit. The wire channels looked stretched. I think taking the wire out would essentially be the same.
oh, i'm glad the decent exposures worked out for you - last I remember you said you had some issues with it

I bought a Fauve Chloe Vertical Seam Bra (0311) a while back and lamented greatly when it didn't fit. I put it up for sale, but no one ever bit, so I revisited this bra to see if there was an alteration I could do to make it work.
Turns out, yes, there ... was!
I folded it over at the vertical seam and sewed it up, which reduced the cup depth and made the top of the cup a little shallower. It worked!!! The Chloe fits me now! The shape is a little flat at the apex, but it's not a bad job for a complete amateur who was making up as she went. Now to alter down the band.
Similarly, I also have a Simone Perele Delice Demi (12X330) which wanted more upper projection and shorter roots. I folded the top of the cup down so that the top edge and the end of the seam met. This got rid of the ugly space at the top of the cup so there isn't an ugly bump under shirts! I still need to alter down the band and the straps (I really like this bra, can you tell?) before I can wear it, but the cups were the most important bit, so yay!
I have unlined bras I can wear! *dances*

Fantastic!! I'm thrilled for you! :-) :-) :-)
Wow, I'm impressed you improved the fit of these two bras so much! Are you going to add pictures to each bra's entry? I'm working up the nerve to move the underwire channels of some of my bras, including my own Fauve Chloe vertical seam bras.

Was there a Bra Adventure where someone folded over and sewed down her straps so they're closer together in front? She didn't cut anything. I was trying to show pictures to a friend who offered to do some minor alterations for me on her sewing machine. I cannot find this Bra Adventure anywhere. I've tried using the search box and paging through the Adventures, to no avail.

I've got a longline bra (Kensie Stella) which fits really well except that the cradle bit keeps collapsing. There's underwire channeling under the cups but it keeps bunching up. Any ideas on how to keep it from folding up like this?

Can you post a photo? I am having trouble picturing the issue! If you start a fitting thread you can post pics. Or link to an imgur photo
The band on my babydoll is too loose, which is causing the cups to gap a bit. I would size down in the band but it's a 28, so there's no smaller band size option. It's a curvy kate ritzy in size 28e. My band size is 26.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can alter down the ... band size and still keep this as a babydoll? I'm not opposed to turning it into a regular bra, but it would be nice to be able to keep it intact. The band is pretty stretchy, so it's not very close to how small I would need it. I've been thinking there may be a way to take the stretch out of the band, but I'm not sure how. I do have a sewing machine.
Doing the typical taking in at the side would cause the babydoll material to bunch, and I would like to avoid that. Taking it in at the hooks wouldn't work because there is embroidery there that can't be taken in because it would be bulky, and I wouldn't want to cut it away.
Any ideas?

If you're not sensitive to metal you can try the rixie clip band shorteners. You can order them on amazon.

What do you guys do with altered bras, Bratabase-wise? I sent my 32F - Curvy Kate » Wild (SG1701) and 32F - Tutti Rouge » Kitty Bra to be altered in the band (and kicking myself in the head that I didn't do that with other 32F and 34E bras that I sold and could have had altered :'( ) and I think about re-adding them as altered. Is there a demand fo measurements of altered bras? Will that help with recommendations maybe?

I just measure the bras before theyre altered, unless I'm gonna sell it.
If you have the bra already altered you can always add it and make sure you indicate that it has been altered.
That will make the system ignore this bra's measurements (band only if you marked it for band or all measurements if you marked for the full bra). But the individual fit information will still be used for your personal track.

I stand in awe of the people on here who confidently do things involving bras, needle and thread. My sewing skills start & stop at re-attaching buttons, and even that does not bear close inspection! So it is with some hope that I reach out to ask if anyone would be so kind to help with what I think is ... a rather major bra-adaption. I got a Comexim Papillon longline from Bra Obsessed's clearance bin. It must be one of their first tries, because the whole of the wires oddly float off my body. This bra's wires are just attached to the broad band, and the poor cups don't know what they're supposed to do! From the measurements and some fabric pinching, I'm pretty sure it will fit OK if I can get the wires to sit the heck down. Plus I read somewhere - perhaps a bra blog - that this exact problem can be resolved by adding a supporting band or elastic along the bottom of the wires. Obviously this is way beyond my limited abilities but I am in love with the butterflies and the comfort of the longline and don't want to give up without at least trying. So I am wondering if anyone would be willing to try their talented hand at an experimental customization? I can send pictures, measurements, etc. and have no expectations. I'd be happy to pay for it and even provide supplies! Any other tips/advice also welcome. Thank you all!

you could also ask around for local seamstresses
This issue is universal to Comexim longlines unfortunately :/// It's a major construction flaw. lcl0706 did something to her Joy longline to make it better, and she's pretty awesome with her sewing machine.

I was wondering this myself recently. I never found a good guide for the alteration and gave up, fearing my sewing skills aren't up to it...
I put the wire for the bigger breast on top....It may give that breast 1/4" more depth at the gore. Not much, but we'll take whatever we can get :-)
