    Fits

I took apart my previous 40JJ - Elomi » Kim Plunge Bra (4340) and wanted a second one, so here we are. The bra fits better now that I have gained weight and solidly fit this size but the bottoms of the cups are still a little too shallow at the wire, and the gore is still too wide. However, the lack of pointiness now that I fill the cups better is nice. After narrowing the gore and changing the wires, my two standard changes, it should be fine, if not my best fit.

It’s funny to compare this “plunge” with my 40J - Curvy Kate » Dragonfly Plunge Bra (SG5411). This fits very much like a full cup bra on me because of my short roots and the majority of the depth is at the center. With the dragonfly I’ve got a real plunge shape and the majority of the depth is at the bottom and sides. Now if I could get a combination of the two!

    Fits

Love this bra! The fit feels really great. (Big shoutout to Stephanie with Breakout Bras, who recommended this bra and size to me based on emails alone! It's obvious she knows what she's doing, and I will definitely be buying from them in the future!)

The fit is really nice on me, and super comfortable. There's plenty of projection at the wire, the gore has a strong tack, the band is snug without being restrictive, and I'm not fighting to keep the straps on my shoulders. The only fit issue is that the wires are a good bit wider than they ought to be (1.5-2"!). However, I don't think ... this causes significant fit issues because of the fantastic amount of center projection and the fact that the underwires don't run high under my under arms. The wires also feel somewhat flexible and aren't pokey at all.

Important note about this "plunge style" is that it's rather different than other plunges (which is great for me, since my center-full breasts don't like to stay put in most plunges). I'll just paste in Stephanie's description here, because I think it's spot on:
"This is a plunge shape but not a traditional plunge bra style. Like Tiana, it gives a very forward and boosted side and underbust fit. This cup shape is great for softer and heavier tissue because it keeps the breast tissue from settling in the bottom and putting extra pressure on the wires. This wire shape also tucks closer to the root for ladies who have narrower/higher attached tissue. The center cup depth is very accommodating, and the stretch lace upper cups will hug well to softer tissue while the banded edging keeps the tissue in place instead of letting it slip out as you move."

The material is very smooth and satiny. I love the stretch lace on on top, which helps provide a smooth line over the tops of my breasts while still preventing my center-full breast tissue from spilling over the somewhat lower gore. I'm rather FOB, but I think this bra could work for people who are also more even or even somewhat FOT, because of it's stretchiness.

As far as attractiveness, it's not my favorite, especially in the nude color. Something about the particular style of the lace edging and the print used feels matronly on me. I do really love the look of the red floral pattern, so I might get that colorway instead, although I really do need to have a well-fitting nude bra... It's definitely not a "sexy" plunge, like others, but it's also far from the worst I've seen.

Wow, great find - and amazing customer service if she provided such detailed info!

I believe Elomi do a lot of 'sister styles' with similar fit, so that's great if you can find more colorways!

    Didn't fit

I also tried this bra in 32JJ and 34J, neither did work for me. The band on this 34J was too big and it would not feel supportive enough. The cups are quite wide as it's usual for Elomi bras, the top lace part is stretchy. The fit of the cups was okay for me. The biggest issue with this bra were the wires which hurt me very painfully. Even after just trying it on for a short time, the wires started to dig in under my boobs. I am really not sure why that happens, I assume it might be that this bra is too shallow in cups and my boobs pushed the cups down which ended up in it being painful to wear.
So sadly this bra is just not for me.

    Fits

I had to wear this bra for a while and do my usual wire swap before I decided how I feel about the fit. I'm happy to say that it is gorgeous and is going to work well for me.

So I got this bra in 40JJ and thought it would fit exactly like my 40JJ - Elomi » Jodi Plunge Bra (4190) as it is based on the same pattern. While the fit is quite similar, my Jodi had a stretchier band and cups deeper at the wire. I think this really shows that all bra brands have differences in individual bras (I had ... two slightly differently fitting Sachis as well). This style by Elomi is the second best style/shape I own by them, after the 40J - Elomi » Tia Bandless Bra (4280) . My first in this cut, the 38JJ - Elomi » Lottie Plunge Bra (4180) is a workhorse I wore nearly exclusively for over a year- it is now limp and worn out, sadly. This bra will replace it.

The print is absolutely to die for. I mean seriously it's so beautiful. The flowers are white and linear on a more bluish toned red background. I wish the lace matched the color- it's more of a warm toned red. However, it's a slight difference, and I like the kitschy pattern of it- very folk, which is the whole vibe of the bra.

The fabrics are all soft and silky, as are the elastics. The straps have matching fabric sewn on the top front. All in all, really a comfortable, all day wearing bra, wrapped in the most beautiful package.

    • very pretty!

    • Beautiful! So glad you know how to make it work!

    • Do you swap in narrower wires? I'm asking because I just sent back an Elomi. It would have been a nice fit if the wires weren't so wide.

    • 1

Yes I always do. I usually do old Panache bra wires because they are usually tall vertical wires and are super sturdy, but there are a number of retailers out there that sell softer wires in a variety of shapes and sizes.

    • 2

ooh, maybe i should save the wires from my floris? they were a tiny bit wide, tho

    • Sorry if I'm getting way off topic here, but when you swap in the narrow wires, do you have to modify or gather the wire channel to make it fit? I'm picturing the fabric puckering because of the narrow wire.

    • Brash5 if the wire is the same length as the other wire I don't really have to do anything. Usually I choose wires that are shorter than the bra and I leave empty space under the armpit, where the wires tend to bother me more, and that works well for me. I also will tack the wires in place so they don't slide back.

As far as there being more room in the cup, because of my breasts they will fill any part of the bra available, so narrowing the wires just brings my boobs more to the front rather than squishing them under my armpits. I don't generally have empty space by narrowing the wires.

I'm not sure if I answered your question, so let me know if I didn't.

    • 2

You answered beautifully, thank you! :) I have some extra wires and will give it a try with my next Elomi.

    Didn't fit

This bra did just not work for me.
It was the worst one out of all Elomi plunges that I have tried. So construction - wise I don't see much difference to their other plunges with stretch lace top.
The cup material is very high quality, soft woven fabric and the stretchy lace isn't flimsy. The band feels firm and true to size.
However when I wore this bra just for trial it was very uncomfortable. The underwire would dig in painfully into my ribs. This was the worst I experienced with Elomi plunges and I try to figure out why it happened with this bra but not like other ... Plunges like Matilda / Charley.

One reason could be that the wire is just the wrong shape for me. Elomi wires are very wide, and I thought I can get away with that. But I think with this contruction there are also other forces working against me. The top section is soft enough to shape my boobs nicely but it could be that the bra gets pushed down because 1. the wire is too wide and wrong shape 2. the cup is not projected enough so wire gets pushed down bc my boobs cannot fill the bottom? I don't know...

Anyway it's not a bad bra by any means. But you need to have to right shape for it, I say it's best wide root + slightly shallow FOB boobs. Don't try if your FOT, despite the stretchy lace. I kinda have a feeling the bra also failed because I am FOT.

    38HH

    Fits

Finally ordered some new bras, and for the first time in about a year and a half I've got some that fit again!

Some important info: I had a baby in June 2018. Before pregnancy, I generally wore 36H/HH, and had very short, very narrow roots.

Now: a bit wider and slightly taller roots, a bit more full overall. Still need all of the depth at the wire I can get. ABTF calculator suggested 38HH. My shape before meant that it would tend to overestimate my size by a cup, now I think it's either spot-on or maybe a slight underestimate.

I tried some 38H Elomis and they were too ... small. Ordered some 38HHs and ta-da!

I like this bra. The color is slightly darker than my skin tone, but not enough to really be an issue. I like the pattern on the fabric and lace; it's just enough for some visible interest but not so much it's overwhelming. The gore is high for a plunge, but that's to be expected in this size range really. The band is very TTS, which means it's actually a tiny bit tighter than I'd prefer, but it's not uncomfortable at all, and I'm sure it will loosen up a bit as I wear it more.

The sides are a bit too high, but it's not uncomfortable, it's just a bit annoying. It's a wider bra than other recent Elomis I've tried, but that's fine. I don't need as narrow a wire as I used to anyway. I do have the same issue I did with the 38H Elomi Morgan I tried, where the side support sling causes some vertical in-cup quadding, but it's very slight and not visible under clothing. I think that might just be one of those things my breasts do now.

This bra is really comfy, though, and I'm really happy with it. It's nice to have ones that fit and feel good again.

Hm. I’m not a fan of the fit in the larger size. The problem is, with the 34HH I get quad boob because of the elastic. It stays pretty close to my IMF.

With the 34J, my boobs still move up into the apex and have baggy room at the bottom. I think the wires are too wide and the cups are too big. I’m not a fan of the color either, I think beige shows way more flaws in the fit than darker colors. Probably sending this back.

My advice is to use a seam ripper with the smaller size and very delicately take the elastic off to top of the cups. Helps the fit for me a lot!

    • 2

cupandahalf That’s actually great advice, I’ll have to give it a try! I noticed on your review for Kim that you said you liked Tia. I also wear Tia and I’ve noticed the stretch lace without the elastic band fits so much better. Seems less closed off.

Worked like a charm! Thanks again for the suggestion. :)

The straps aren't fully adjustable. I don't know why I didn't even realize this. I own three of this bra. I wore them before my weight gain...and with multiple band extenders when I hoped it was "just a phase" from the pandemic. Well, here's the data anyway. The band is comfortable, but I think it would migrate upward if I could crank the straps short enough for the weight of my chest, in the first place, but I can't because they stop adjusting half way through the strap. Having high roots is so insanely frustrating. The wires are too tall on this too, because of the high roots. ... I have much too much projection for this frame. There's so much tissue shoved into the "side support" that it's not able to support the side. Same problems I've always had with this bra. It "worked" enough for me to stop my obsessive search for a bra that fits because I didn't want to get into Polish bras back then, and I'm still intimidated by it. Partly because I've gaslit myself into thinking that my roots can't POSSIBLY be narrow because I keep shoving my breasts into wide wire frames and thinking I have wide roots. Ok, back to this bra. I like how the fabric feels. Same as a lot of other Elomi bras.

Thank you for posting this. I wasn’t really sure what exactly was causing cup wrinkling on my other bras, tried sizing down then back up. I got a pretty close fit in Matilda but noted wrinkling despite the cups being filled. I think we have a similar shape and I saw that EM bras work really well so am going to try giving them another go

    Hasn't set fit

This is a really close fit for me in terms of projection. I am very projected and pendulous shaped with center fullness (so plunges are a big no) and the lace top is what sold me on this. Normally I fall out of a plunge! The gore almost lays down which is a miracle. Due to my shape I never fill in the bottom of a cup and top tissue is extremely soft from breastfeeding twice. So my right side is about 1-2 cups sizes smaller than my left which often represents a challenge. I've been looking for a replacement for my Elomi Tia because it's discontinued and now I'm spilling out of the top of the old Tia's. My only issue is that (I think) due to the extra fabric I'm getting some rubbing under the arm front of arm area rubbing. Not armpit. Now I'm super sensory sensitive to clothing so am I just hyper focusing and it's a correct fit or what?

    • close? It looks too tall under your arm pits though. Would you consider it wearable? If this were me, I think the chafing would be an issue. I wonder if it could even be altered. the gore doesn't tack as if should, but that's hard to do with some bras. Hmm, "Fit tips for soft breasts" http://butterflycollectionlingerie.blogspot.com/2014/01/bra-fit-tips-for-soft-breasts.html Her blog has lots of interesting info. Interesting how she says make sure you have a medium to tall gore. That's hard to do if a person has close-set breasts though.

    • also, do you think you have a short torso , or high set breasts? http://butterflycollectionlingerie.blogspot.com/2013/10/bras-good-for-short-torsos.html How tall are you?

    • 1

After wearing for a few hours I can concur that this is not the bra for me. The projection is better than others I've tried but the excess cup just causes too much chafing. I never know how much is *normal* or if I'm just super sensitive.

    • 1

BraOdyssey I can't do a high gore at all. It pushes me very east-west and it's uncomfortable. Usually a 2-3 inch is good but then I need something like a lace or foam to put some distance between but not push, I can't stand if they are touching in the center. I didn't realize how close my breasts are together and how slim my ribcage is for my breasts! It's incredibly difficult to find something that fits all the boxes. I also usually will give on a few areas because I have to!

    • This is a stab in the dark, but what about trying a bra like Empreinte Cassiopée Underwired Seamless Bra (07151) They're *not that expensive* if you know your size (so you don't have to exchange it) & you buy them directly from France on sale. Esp. b/c you're in the U.S. and you won't have to pay any duties for imports, like we have to in Canada.

I saw them marked down at this store https://www.mesdessous.fr/en/77279-private-sales/s-1/brand_2-empreinte?page=3 50% a couple of weeks ago for their "French Days" sale; the sale went on and on for like 10 days, too. The prices were anywhere btwn 43 - 55 euros, IIRC, on their sale Empreinte bras.

Something to consider, of course I'd probably try them on in the U.S. Unless you wanted to try on while buying them directly from France, and using PayPal "Returns on us"

I wonder if they would work for you because your breast root on the side doesn't look that wide! Looking at the pictures from the Dalia bra. Even though I know you said your "Holy Grail" bra was Elomi, which is known for having wide wires (not sure if they do that in every style).

I read this review from Introvert and she found that bra works well for her. https://www.bratabase.com/bra/dnl43/

It's my understanding their G cup is like a UK H cup; that's just from reading reviews. They run deep in the cup (allegedly), I can not comment about their bands though. I have no first-hand experience with the brand a.t.m.

    • 1

BraOdyssey the Tia isn’t perfect by any means and the cups are too wide (much side boob) but it was better than what I was wearing prior 2016ish and I’ve always had a chafing issue So I just gave up and kept on with it. Lol

That sounds like something to look into!
