    Used to fit

I FINALLY got around to ordering my closest fit in a cup size down, and it’s a unicorn!!! I have the most impossible breasts to find bras for, I swear, but this bra is magical.

Proper positioning is critical for this bra. You need to scoop and swoop, and then you also need to shake your breast into place in the cup and smooth any inner and top quadding under the top of the cup. But once you do that, it should stay perfectly in place!

I’m just shocked to finally have a bra that’s projected enough in the right place, perfectly fits my high-set Nike Swoosh roots, tacks perfectly despite my very close set breasts, AND supports my soft, inner full, semi-Omega-shaped tissue. It feels comfortable and supports me well even without the J hook. I can’t believe how freaking good it looks, either. I can’t believe I finally found a unicorn without making a single alteration!

Wow! This looks amazing on you! High-five for the bra win. :)

      Fits like a glove, congrats!

      Very nice looking!

    • Yay, so happy for you!!
      Looks like an excellent fit!

And I believe Matilda is an Elomi staple, so available in many colors - and hopefully never to be discontinued (or at least not any time soon)!!

  2. Update 3: 36GG is my unicorn bra!!!!

Update 2: I believe this is actually somehow a band size and cup size too big. I will try it in 36GG, though it may not have quite enough projection at that size. Thankfully, the J-hook helps tremendously in keeping the wire in my IMF and pulling in the slightly too-wide side wires. I may also replace the underwires with narrower ones and take in the band some.

Update: It definitely does fit, but I haven't been able to get past the pain of wearing it all day. The material covering the bottom wires is so painful when it's not J-hooked, but it ... hurts my neck to wear it J-hooked all day. I tried it in 36HH and it was massive on me, so I guess 38GG/36H is my real fit.

    Make sure to J-hook it!!!

I normally wear a 36J (UK), so I was stunned to fit into a 38GG. In truth, a 36HH would probably be perfection—the cup is just a little snug, and I'm wearing it on the tightest hook, but I plan to lose weight soon and I was pretty desperate for any bra that fit, so it's fine. And this bra looks **freaking amazing**!

The Matilda was definitely my favorite of the ones I tried (thought that was a fairly low bar) and I kept putting it back on, but I was concerned by the extra space between the strap and the armpits. And that's when the lady helping me said, "Oh, that's because it's meant to be J-hooked." And then she hooked it.

    Oh. My. God.

Fireworks. Cartoon hearts beating out of chests. Choruses of baby angels holding baby kittens.

Needless to say, I immediately bought it. I have tried a lot of bras, and none of them have ever felt as comfortable nor looked as sexy as this one once it was J-hooked. I have to do a bit of tucking and might take in the gore a bit just because I'm so close-set, but even without that it's really, really good. Lots of projection, albeit not quite as immediate as I prefer, nice narrow-ish wires and a lot of depth. It's a lot more comfortable than most bras once it's J-hooked, because the weight gets distributed differently. It requires a little scooping and shifting, but I'm amazed. Even in a plain nude, it looks so sexy and stunning without being frilly. This bra was $73, twice as much as my second most-expensive bra ever, but it was worth every penny of it so far! I'm so relieved to have a bra, any bra, that fits. And have I mentioned this one looks sexy as heck?

    32JJ

    Fits

Finally I found the size that fits me in this bra. I had the 32J before which just wasn't good. The Matilda bra is Elomi's plunge cut with no stretch lace. I used to have issues with the gore being too low on this cut. It would poke me and there would be overspill at the centre. After recent size change I was without bras that fit me so I had to try new ones.

My shape: tall, narrow to average wide roots, full on top, projected, center heavy

In the 32JJ the gore fits much better, it's about 0.5-1cm taller than on 32J. Also since the bra cups ... are bigger, all my breast tissue is gathered in the cups and nothing spills over. So the gore cannot touch my breast tissue. I love this cut - it's so good for center full boobs but only if you can find the right size. Tall gores often bother me too but I prefer them since my boobs fall out of too low cut bras. But with this bra my boobs are fully supported. It's a very nice construction that gives a lot of support just from band and wire.

I find the band a bit stretchy for a 32 and think I would start to wear it on a tighter setting really soon. I tried out the racer back option but it gives me neck pain. Wearing the bra regularly feels very supportive but I have to shorten the straps a lot - I think they are generally bit longer to allow for the raceback option. I also have slight gaping at the band upper side on my back --- which wouldn't be there with racerback. As with all Elomis the wires are on the wider side. Since the bra is so supportive I will overlook it.

    Didn't fit

This bra is currently too small for me in the cups, I get quadboob and the gore pokes my overspilling breast tissue. It's not comfortable to wear. The bra is very well made and supportive.

    40GG

    Fits

I am a recent bratabase convert and have a lot to learn about bra-fit principles and best practices. So take what I say with a grain of salt. I bought this bra in two sizes, 42GG and 40GG. I first bought the 42GG and thought it was too big (but kept it anyways). So I sized down to a 40GG. This review is for both sizes.

The Matilda is a 4-part (counting the side panel) underwire plunge bra. The side panel and the lower cups are non-stretch fabric and the top cups are non-stretch sheer panel with “stunning beaded lace embroidery”. There is also an “opulent silver ... ring detailing”. Both the “stunning” and “opulent” elements are a tad cheesy so you should not get too excited about them. The non-stretch sheer panels might seem a little flimsy (it is a single layer bra) but it works well for me, but I am not full-on-top and I do not need as much support where the fabric seems flimsy. (Flimsy is not the best word to use, but I am leaving it). This will be a good bra to wear in the summer time. I do think that the non-stretch element is what saves the day.

Both of my Elomi Matilda bras are my favorite bras. Both the 40GG and the 42GG seem to fit, both are comfortable, and both give me the support, lift and shape that I want. This speaks well for the flexibility of the design of this bra because I have two different sizes that are not sister sizes and I am satisfied with both. Two thumbs up.

Hey, welcome! Great review and great that both sizes work for you! I find that in a few soft cup bras too - must be their flexibility in the cup itself due to it being soft. A little snug on the straps and they both fit fine. Glad you are enjoy Elomi...and thanks for the measurements...I am a bra band sister and we can use all the 40/42 band measurements we can get!

    • 3

Thanks for the nice comment. I will be sure to check out your reviews!

    • 2

"All the 40/42 band measurments we can get!"

That is exactly correct! I always check for 40FF and 38G measurements, and there are so few!!

    • 3

Lack of measurements in this size range must be why Bratabase doesn't give me much recommendations.

    • My recommendations are all messed up because I messed up my measurements on the first day I joined. :(

    Hasn't set fit

I don't like the way this bra fits. It doesn't offer any lift or oomph. I think it is not made for my breasts shape. My bigger breast slips a little. It doesn't fuller encapsulate it. It looks great on models but it is not just for me. I can't relate when people say it fits well. Matilda is a beautiful comfortable bra. You barely know you have it on. For me that's it. I wouldn't reach for it when I need support and lift.

  7. After trying 15+ bras trying to find my “perfect fit,” Matilda became my best friend! It’s so fitting that the color way I purchased is called “Unicorn” because this is definitely my “unicorn” bra. I’m hoping to get one or two more colors.

    32J

    Didn't fit

I got the chance to try a few Elomi bras with free shipping and return from a local online shop and this was available in my size. The Matilda is a Plunge bra and features a 4 part cup construction with a side support panel and a sheer mesh top section with some cute dotty details. The wires on this bra are really firm and sturdy, comparable to Bravissimo and Panache wires. This is a feature I love, because the usual soft Elomi wires don't offer enough support, distort easily and end up on my back.

    How the bra fits me:

The wires are a bit wide but not extremly ... too wide. I think if everything else would fit, it would be workable. The wires keep their shape and don't distort much. I feel very well supported by these wires alone. I get slight wrinkling at the sides and very very slight at the top of the cup where the upper cup meets the straps. It's very minor and barely visible, but it shows that the bra is a bit too wide and just slightly too tall for me.

Sizing down is no option, actually I should rather size up, because there isn't much center room and the cup edge cuts into my breast tissue slightly. So very light quadboob but extra room at the sides? That is a shape-mismatch. Elomi Plunges are better for full on bottom and slightly wide boobs. I also felt uncomfortable with the gore, it pushed too hard against my sternum. I'm not used to wear such a low gore. The band is a bit more stretchy than on my 32J - Elomi » Sachi Plunge Bra (4350) bra, and I could close it on the second set of hooks already and it did not feel very tight.

I really love the design of this bra. It's subtle but still cute and a bit girly with the dots. An understatement. And I love the teal color so much!!! Ahh it's so pretty! I almost wanted to keep it, but it's quite pricey and I feared that the issues would cause loss of support over a full day of wear and that the quadboob might show under a thin summer t-shirt.

Also it gave me a slightly wide shape from the front (not super east-west like a Tango) but a bit more than I prefer. The J-hook for racerback would have helped with the issue a bit but the straps were barely long enough for me to comfortable hook the J-hook. Also it did not look flattering on my fluffy back fat. So it's a pass. I don't know if a 32JJ would solve all the issues and I think the bra is not the right cut for my boobs.

    • It does look to me like your boob is trying to escape on the outside of the cup, in this picture: https://www.bratabase.com/picture/dpdy9/

Sorry it didn't work out, this is a nice looking bra. From the thumbnails it looked like it worked :(

    • 1

Sovavosi Yeah I know. That is my bigger boob. Also when I tried this bra on, my boobs were blown up by PMS. The bra is a mix of being obviously too small in cups but also kinda too big (on the side) here is the side wrinkling visible http://bra.pe/InJs/ (smaller boob). If there was more room at the center / top part of the cup I could get away with this size. I think in the 32JJ the wires will be even wider and it would not fit properly either.

    • alisa please a technical question. I see this bra has a (racerback ?) hook on the straps.

Is it really possible to reach that high and manipulate it or would it require a helping hand ?

      Thanks, best regards,

The shape/cut of the Cups is a 10/10, it's perfect, at least when I use the J-Hooks, it's okay but a little too seperated without the racer-back.
This bra really made me realize how the racer-back option improves the fit and support of any bra for me, it even looks better to me. The style of this bra is a
clear "meh" to me, I don't love the dotty detail on the top of the cup, but I do love love love the deep blue colorway.
The real issue with this bra is the wire, yet again. the fabric creases at the wire and the wire slides down and then sits about 2cm under IMF.

Is the wire actually uncomfortable, or is it just that you're noticing it's not in the usual place? If it causes no discomfort I would not worry about it. The fact that the shape is good for you is very encouraging. You might also check out alisa 's numerous reviews of Bravissimo, in this size range they also have taller-than-average cups.

I think the dots are darling! multiple shades of blue are so pretty together.

    • Sadly it's uncomfortable, and it get's increasingly uncomfy while wearing it, if I wear it for a day it leaves thick red marks exactly 2cm under imf. At this point the wire really is my fit issue nr.1, it's always the damn wire! Well, I got the Panache non-wired sports bra last week in 30G and it fits and is a clear improvement to what I was wearing before so I'm gonna life in it for now haha

    • 1

Oh interesting - I always assumed Elomi's size range started at ~34 band! Also I didn't realize / never looked into their cupsize chart apparently.. so it's nice to see they offer sizes like 70J which would possibly fit me as well.

The deep blue color is great indeed - thanks for reviewing!

    • 1

bubblegum they expanded the range to 32s pretty recently, in the last couple of years or so I think. Until then, you recall correctly, they started at 34.
They are known for rather wide and tall wires due to their target market being the plus/full bust range rather than just full bust--but not everyone needs the narrow Polish wires so for some people this is a very good thing!

    • 1

Is this a UK 32J or a EU 70J ? I just ask because I find that the measuements of cup depth are quite small for an UK 32J. I have one of these on it's way to me too. It's a very pretty color. I'm happy that Elomi does 32 bands now.

    • 1

EU 70J, so according to the conversion chart I'm looking at a UK 32G.
Yep, I'm happy they offer 32s now, even tho it's not a perfect fit - I haven't found a perfect comfortable fit yet and I'm not sure If I ever will, but if I had to wear any bra I'd probably go with an Elomi Plunge now

    • If it's a UK 32G you should add it here as a 32G not a 32J. I have a UK32J of this bra on it's way and it's labelled as a EU 70M. We add bras here in UK sizing if that is the main sizing a brand uses.

    • Ohh wait I thought I added it as a 70J, sorry :/

    • Ohh wait I thought I added it as a 70J, sorry :/

    • 1

Update: I DID add it as „70J“, the size „32J“ was automatically added somehow but obviously a EU J is not a UK J! Tried to correct it and add the actuall UK size
