I'm so pleasantly surprised by this bra! Major fit adjustments have been made to Charlotte for SS16. It's now a great option for the narrow/projected crowd. This bra now runs big, so I'd recommend sizing down in the cup 1-2 cups depending on how FoB/short rooted you are.
This looks BEAUTIFUL on you!! I fell in love with this print the second I saw the preview photo. I thought I'd never be able to own it, since Charlotte was way too wide and shallow for me. Your review has given me hope! I've already ordered it in 3 different sizes; hoping one of them fits as beautifully as yours does on you. Fingers crossed. Thank you so much for posting this! :)
No way ... a Charlotte that I might actually be able to wear?! Thanks for this review. I hope more measurements in other sizes get added, too. I've always been secretly jealous of this bra and the high waisted bottoms that go with it, but my attempt at Dusty Rose was also an epic fail. You mention that it looks great under a shirt - are the seams very visible under a thin tee?
This looks fantastic! If you come across another 28DD, that isn't $48, let me know!
I saw this in the FB group and didn't realize it was you... Makes me want to try it even more!!!
This looks great on you! Makes me so happy too. I've wanted a Charlotte for so long, but the older shape made me decide against it. That pattern is so gorgeous too *_*
Thanks for posting this! I bought it last night, and sized up in band and down in cup. I'm hoping it's a win! And in case anyone else wants to test her out, Bare Necessities has Charlotte on sale today for 25% off.
Thanks everyone! I hope it works for all of you who try it! Make sure to add more measurements for it if you're trying more than one size. I'm interested to see how the scaling is in larger cup sizes.
letstalkaboutbras The seams all lay very flat on mine, so I don't get any significant lines, but the pattern will show under a thin light colored shirt.
RollsAndCurves Thank you so much <3 That's really amazing to hear!
ginganinja Oooh thanks for sharing! :) I hope she works for you!
Lovely design indeed and it looks really awesome on you!
One question - do you feel the wing height / armpit area has improved, compared to old Charlotte?
2 weeks ago I finally ordered some try-out sizes in older Charlotte colourways, after AbracaBra posted a discount code for Largecuplingerie. I'm mostly concerned about the wing height / armpit rubbing.. 😐
Still waiting for my order though. Excited to see if 'old' Charlotte works for me and if not, I'll know to give this new version a chance! Thanks for reviewing 😊
To be honest, that's a hard question to answer because I really couldn't wear old Charlotte for any amount of time because of how incredibly painful the gore was on my breast tissue.
I do have a very narrow frame though and I've worn new Charlotte several times all day and not been bothered by the wing height or any wire rubbing. The wings feel fairly low to me, and the straps are narrower set than my EMs.
Ok thanks! The possible armpit attack is what kept me away from Charlotte for so long. Good to know there might be a plan B (:
Is DD a different size from E in this brand?
I wanted to come in and comment on my experience, because my Charlotte came in the mail today. I def agree with PetiteCollegiate assesment that this color way runs small in the band and large in cup. I straddle between 34G and 36FF these days, and this fit perfect in 38E. The cups are really deep (I recommend pulling the cup up, so your breasts fall into it as on first fit I thought it was too small but once I got all the tissue in the cup it's quite big enough), and the wires are narrow too. My only quibble is there at only 2 hooks in this size. I remember I previously tried this in 34GG and it had 4. Overall, I recommend this! Especially for those who had shape mismatch in previous color ways, and generally benefit from narrow wires and deep cups.
Yes, a bra that fits! I normally wear a size 28F but sized down two cups to 28DD as PetiteCollegiate recommends her review. The band is exceptionally tight for a 28, which is excellent for me since I have a 24-25" UB. I can comfortably wear it on the middle hooks.
The cups are very closed at the top - at the black rim, they are nearly curving back in a 90 degrees. I have super short roots and not much upper fullness so this works well for me. It's one of the few bras that don't gape at the top even if I move ...my arms. The cups fit my narrow roots which end about an inch in front of my arms. The sides are cut low and forward so they don't dig into my armpits.
The apex of this cup is quite high, which makes it a pushup bra without the extra padding. This isn't my breast shape, but it isn't uncomfortable either. The only gripe I have with this bra is the gore, which is a bit too wide for me. But there is basically no space between my boobs and I always have a hard time with any gore that isn't a extremely low. Read more 104 more words
This bra is the first Parfait by Affinitas I have tried. I found that the 28 band was just a tad too tight but the cups were perfect. I added an extender to solve this. I'm fob, wide set, with soft tissue. I often have problems with gaping because my tissue will follow the path of least resistance in the bra, which is usually towards the sides and bottom of the cup. The Charlotte's strong cup structure, high cup sides, side support panel, and it's inward angle at the top of the cup helped push my tissue up and in. I had some gaping on my smaller boobs ...but the angle of the cup hid it marvelously. I'm very happy with the shape this bra created. I'm not in love with it's high contrast style, especially the black vertical stripes on the cup. It almost looks retro, but with a dash of the 1980s thrown in. As to comfort, I wore it for 4 hours today and I was aware of it's presence the entire time. It's thick, squeaky,(hopefully the squeak will fade) and the band is a touch scratchy. This is the ultra super overnights maxi pad of bras. It will contain those breasts! I do very much like the look, I wish it were a little more comfortable though. I'll definitely continue to wear it, but I'll probably choose something lighter most days unless I am needing maximum lift and projection. Read more 136 more words
This bra would most likely work best with even slightly projected breasts with narrower roots. It does have firm wires which I needed to bend out to prevent stabbing but now it is too small.
Oh, glorious day! Something just about fits me, finally!! (In other words, I finally cut the paper tags off of an Amazon bra! LOL)
I love this bra. Purple and black are my favorite colors, and I adore the rich color and unusual style, so I felt strongly about hoping this one would work. After 9 failed bra trials with 30 bands, I downsized to a 28 and that seems to have helped.
The band is very snug and firm. I do hope it loosens just a little. This is the first bra I've worn that let me understand what people are talking about when they say a bra ...creaks. It definitely does! Like other reviewers have said, this is not a bra that would be comfortable to wear all day. I can definitely see myself looking forward to taking it off when getting home. However, it also makes me feel good about how I look with it on, which is priceless to me.
It's not perfect. There are moments when the cup feels too small and I get small amounts of quad. There are moments when it seems too big, because at just the right angle, I get a little bit of gapping in the upper corner. I accept that this says far more about my body shape than about the bra itself. I'd be curious to try this on in a 28E and a 30D or DD. Most reviews for this suggest going up in both band and cup. I'm not convinced that would work better for me, but when I get the chance, I am going to give it a try.
The gore does dig in a little bit...I shoved a piece of make-up sponge foam between my skin and the gore, for now...I am hoping that the band stretches a little and helps resolve that (or I can bend the wires slightly and fix it). But, all in all, this is (by far) the best fit I have had so far. It supports me very well and gives me a nice shape. The thicker padding on the upper part of the cups really helps compensate for my lack of upper breast tissue. The side support is fantastic and the wide set straps aren't a problem (even on my 5'1 frame). It will definitely show under very thin shirts, but at this point, I don't even care! I am just so happy that something seems to work for me!
I have wide-set/splayed/ average-rooted, shallow (from sag), small, deflated upper, very soft breasts. I've also developed an exaggerated tail of spence, which I now believe is from 20 years of wearing ill-fitting padded push-up bras. I was starting to get pretty upset about nothing working for me, when someone reminded me that I may not find a "perfect" fit, and may have to settle for something that's pretty close. I'm glad you found a good fit! I love the look of the Charlotte. The high waisted brief is great too.
I have a Charlotte in 30D in red I'm looking to get rid of if you're interested. It's NWT.
The colors: swoon :-) So lovely!!
drawingdwarf How much are you asking and would you be willing to hold on to it until after the first of January? Between the holidays and simultaneous intensification of the bra search obsession, my bank account is not very happy with me right now! But, I really do want to try the 30D and the red in this (even though I never wear red) looks beautiful.
I have an eye on the matching high-waisted brief (which I can't believe I'm saying). I'm not sure I'll be able to pull it off, because I'm short...but I would love to cover my post-pregnancy stomach with something that was matching and cute. Even if it's less than ideal, aesthetically, it would probably do wonders for my confidence...
That, too, needs to wait until next month though!
Thank you, all! It is a relief that something fits enough to reassure me that this is not a hopeless endeavor. :)
sereneindeed I can definitely hold onto it. I've had it for most of a year and never gotten around to getting rid of it. I was thinking around $25? I just bought a bra I don't need and a panty grab bag I definitely don't need so I'm also having to cool it on the bra front.
Even though the bra didn't fit I've been wearing the brief because I love it. Definitely one of my most flattering pair. I'm 5'1" and the brief hits me just a bit below the waist. I'm about 35/28/37 and the small is a good fit, snug but I wouldn't want it to be at all loose. It's not a control brief but it does smooth everything out a bit. And they never give me wedgies.
I love this bra too! So glad it works for you. I especially like the side covage as I have squishy old boobs that just escape easily out the sides. Also going to FF gave 3 hooks.
Well, this was a hot mess of a fit. Way too much projection, which means that the top of the cup cuts into my breasts. It gave me a super weird shape, like hands cupping breasts so that the top is horizontal.
I really like the band! It's true to size- it stretched to 28.5 inches, and it was quite firm. It felt really good. Breathing wasn't a problem. But ugh, those cups.
The design is also rather strange. The sides are silk, the main cup is cotton. The silk is shiny, the cotton is dull and kind of wrinkly (though that may be due to packaging). The silk lays on top of the cup and actually forms kind of a side pocket. It looks kind of odd.
The straps were a bit on the wide side, like a balconette, but I kind of expected that. Eh. Cup width was pretty good. The gore was ok- a bit higher than I'm used to (but then, I'm used to plunges), but it wasn't uncomfortable once it was in place.
Everyone loves this bra, right? It feels very substantial and really a lovely color (and I usually hate pinks). It's just the right cup width and has a very firm band... but the gore pokes into my sternum! Usually a little poking doesn't bother me at all, but dang! I also had trouble filling the top of the cup, which is unusual for me. I plan to try this bra on again (probably twice) because it's a great alternative to a nude bra because of the color and I know it holds up well because of other reviews.
Update: No dice on this one.. It's really too bad. I was hoping this one would work for me.
This bra is gorgeous! The seams are a bit thick though, and will show under thin fabric. The wings are quite tall, which I love, personally. But if you often have issues with tall wings then this might not work for you. The cups are very shallow, which is wonderful for my equally shallow, FoB breasts not sure how it would work on someone with a different shape. I originally bought a 30DD but went down in both band and cup size.
