"Fits ribcage"?

First of all, I'm sorry, I didn't realize my "bra rant" would be visible to everyone! The site just asked me as a newbie to write a rant, and that it will disappear when I make my first post in "adventures" here. Oh well...

But I actually do have a question ... - in the bra measurement tables, the first column is "fits ribcage", but what would that actually mean? Because in many of the bras that I've looked up there now, that measurement does seem too small for the band size in question (I realize it's in cm, and that's how I mostly measure too.) My snug underbust measurement is about 33 inches, 85 cm to be precise, so the calculator here gave me 34 as my band size, which makes sense; but in many 34 band bras in the database, the "fits ribcage" column says much less, like 84, 82 or even less... So those ones would definitely not fit me, even though they are band size 34. Could anyone please clarify?

Also, I'm a bit puzzled as the calculator here gave 34E as my UK size, but the one in ABTF gave me 34DD. (That cup size - DD - doesn't actually exist here in Northern Europe, or most of EU, but I know the equivalent is 75E.) Of course, the measuring was done partly in a different way, as here one measures the perimeter and no overbust, so maybe that explains it. But has anyone else here had the same issue?

- Hi and welcome!
  
  The "fits ribcage" number means that a user who had that particular rib cage measurement reported that the bra in that size fit them. I believe bratabase will always return the largest measurement of all users who said the bra fit.
  
  I pay more attention to the band measurement and stretched band measurement. If the stretched band measurement equals or slightly exceeds my snug underbust measurement it's probably going to fit as long as the stretched measurement is not more than about 25% larger than the unstretched measurements.
  
  ETA: the calculator here underestimates my cup by 1 size. The new abtf calculator is right on. I still use my measurements on here because knowing my breast perimeter helps me more easily select cup size by the cup depth measurements for bras that have data here.
- Many thanks for your reply, and the welcome too :) That clarified it a lot to me, and I will certainly pay more attention to the band & stretched band measurements from now on. (But since the noted nr is still the largest measurement of all users, I guess it's still slightly worrying if it's smaller than my snug underbust... ;))
  
  And interesting that in contrary to you, the calculator here overestimated my cup size, or of course I don't know if it was the ABTF one that underestimated it, not yet ;) But I will keep on experimenting, only it's a bit difficult as I can mainly find my sizes online (affordably), so it will take while until I'll know which one is more correct. :) (And I know even that may vary between brands & models.)

The conventional sizing advice is just bordering on criminal!! How can it be allowed? According to it, I'd be 38A, while according to the one here, I'm 34E. (And 34DD on ABTF calculator.) Oh heavens.

Am I really such a hard to fit gal? Warning rant incoming! Imf, wires, roots

I always have trouble with wires poking my underarms and riding to far into my sides or armpits than I would like. But Also have always had issues with bras sitting on my ribs instead of my IMF. Even now with what seemed a perfect size and shape( Am I becoming a bra snob ? Where soon no bra will ... fit my rediculas standards?) I am getting the same issue, not so much of the underarm issue but definitely the bra sliding down my ribcage throughout the dayone. so far what I have concluded (correctly I think) is that my roots are smaller than my breasts (so omega shaped I must be ( although I believe they look more like bullets ))- my roots mass height wise is Short Which makes my breasts appear wider , but my roots are, Width-wise very narrow actually. The position of my roots are (upon the results of wayyyy to many ill fitting bras) set reasonably high on my chest. Not to mention my strangely high apex. The things Ive concluded that I am unsure of ( mostly unsure because of my breasts Maliable form) - perhaps my breasts are full on bottom (explains why my nipple would end up almost popping out the top of most bras) meaning I need more i mediate projection . But then am I also full in between my breasts since I get quading but only near the center or gore. or is my frame just too Small for my giant bussim an I shook give up now and go get a reduction for overly peadulas boobs. I was originally going to catagorize this as booby and body issues but I'm hoping that I can get this to be a bra fit issue . So any over the shoulder boulder holder ideas would be grand . I've been looking for short wings and narrow wires, if I should look for a different kind of thing that'd help.

- It sounds so familiar. Right now the only bra that consistently works for me is 38JJ - Elomi » Lottie Plunge Bra (4180) with Panache 30HH wires in it. And that's after 100+ bras.
- I'd I've tried on sooooooo many too but they all are um weird on me it's like my boobs are just so long ? That no matter wat I do the apex pushes the gore and wires down past my IMF I'm thinking longline corset styles may help not sure of any brand that'll make it happen tho

European sizing. Ewa Michalak.

This site recommends a 75E in Ewa Michalak bras. Their website calculator recommends a 70D. My UK size is definitely a 30E. I think that's a 30DDD/E/F (depending on the brand) US. But how in the world is a 30 inch band a 65 band European? 65 cm is 25 inches. I don't get it. Also according to sizing charts a 75E would be a 34DD UK/US. Even though 75 cm is about 30 inches...

- European sizing has the +10 cm embedded in their bands, similar to the 4+ sizing method we have here in the UK and North America. In my experience (as someone in dire need of bras that stretch to a max of 25 inches), 65 bands do stretch to roughly 30 inches.
- You can probably start off with trying 70DD or 70E's in Ewa bras since the bands tend to run tight and cups are a little bit smaller than UK bras IMO depending on the model.

- Oh my god it told me I should wear a 30A and gave me a warning that "cups may be too big". That's with a 25.5" snug UB and 34" standing bust. :'D

Does a wireless bra/bralette exist that is narrow and projected especially at the bottom of the cup?

My boobs have been feeling extra sensitive lately and I think they may be growing so I have been exploring more options in the world of wireless bras. I have tried bralettes that are similar to cami or sport bras. I have tried wearing well fitting bras with the wire removed. They all cause more discomfort then wired bras. I ... get pain around my rib cage where the band is and in the bottom of my breast. My boobs are fairly soft but do NOT like being compressed. I also feel pain in the bottom of my boobs when I wear too shallow/small wired bras. When wearing no bra eventually my breast start to feel heavy and I get pain in my IMF so I need some support. When I took out the wires out of my well fitting bra the cups width increase by 1in. Without wires and padding to give cups structure is possible for a bra to be both narrow and projected? Can I find a well fitting wireless bra that does not compress my tissue but still supports? My best fitting bra is currently 65F - Kris Line » Eva Biustonosz Soft which has a cup width of 5.1 and depth of 9.5 in.

- I didn't find wide cups or the shallowness of the cups to be an issue in either one of the wireless bras that I own. It's like without the wire the fabric has more give to get pulled down and deal with my immediate projection. Make sure that you get ones in your band size, though! I can only suggest maybe ordering a few off of Amazon if you have Prime, and sending them back if it doesn't work out for you?

Why does this happen?

I have a few 30J - Panache » Alisha Support (6096) that I wear when I don't want to wear an underwire. I put them on straight but after a few hours my larger breast pulls the fabric over to it and the center gore piece is resting on that side. Why does this happen? Is this bad?

- How does the band fit? It would seem that if the band isn't snug enough that it could make the larger breast pull the fabric towards it but that's just a guess...... If it's still comfortable, feels supportive, and doesn't look bad under clothes I wouldn't think it's really a bad thing. Comfort and support are the most important factors of a bra, right?
- Way too lose. I have to put it on the tightest hook and I don't really get any support out of it. My shoulders tell me when they've had enough for one day.

Curvy Kate vs Panache fitting

Hello

I would like to ask, to those that have tried both Panache and Curvy Kate bras, if they have found differences in the size and fit.
Do you use same size on both brands? Are there noticeable differences on other parameters, like cup separation, wire width and final shape, between the two brands?

I would like to hear comments from anyone, but specially from sizes near to mine, around 28E.

- Have you used the Compare Bras tool here on Bratabase? It will show you the data on those measurements and will tell you how much of a difference there is. It doesn't tell you final shape but you can look at photos to get a sense of that.

  Yes, I have checked that. It says the sizes are equivalent. However, I know that's not always the case, so I would like to hear to individual experience.

Comexim size advice

I desperately want to try a Comexim bra. What size should I start with? My measurements here put me at 34G but I have VERY soft tissue so generally fit in a 34FF. What size should I order from Comexim? 75H?

- I heared that many girls usally choose both cup and band one size up for start Comexim bra.
  
  For my 30FF/32F(30:8/32:7) breast, 70HH/75H(32:9/32:8) Comexim fits. But I requested many alternations of bra cup, so it is difficult to say about exact cup size. For band size(I have naver requested any alternation), my 70HH(Elena) is stretched to 77cm and 75H(Ginger) to 84cm.
- I am a 26FF/28F, but I have very soft breast tissue like you and most calculators tell me I am a 26G/28FF, or even 26GG. I have 25 inch ribs and a 35 inch leaning bust. In most Cleos, Panache, Freyas, I wear a 28F. In Comexim. I best fit a 60HH. I can squeeze into a 60H but get bad quad boob. I suspect you might need a 80J.

Corset for bust support

Howdy I hope everyone is well. I just wanted to share with you something that I am going to try. Please take note that my choice is unorthodox, but it will have to suffice given my current financial situation.

I have decided to retire 3 out of 7 bras that I have that fit poorly. And since I don't have ... the money to return bras that I can't fit or just pay the custom fees for some bras. I have decided to wear silicone gel pads, a lightly padded bralette, and my What Katie Did Lily corset. It was cheaper and far less time consuming for me to head over to Aerie today and spend 30 dollars on the gel petals, and two bralettes. When I get more money, then I will resume purchasing well made bras again.

There are a few things that I want to note:

1). Please head over to Aerie today and take advantage of their buy 1 bralette and get the other free if you like their stuff.
2). Please head over to Aerie today if you like their stuff because if you spend 40 dollars then you get 10 off. At least the associate who rang me up was able to give me that coupon.
3). The gel covers have trouble sticking to inverted nipples, it's best to wear a bra with light padding in it so that the cover can stick.
4). For those of you that wear corsets and can't afford bras regurarly, can't find a properly fitted underbust, or don't like having their breasts hiked up to their forehead, then this might work for you because some underwire bras will provide too much lift while wearing it with a corset.

And if anyone is wondering I still do plan on wearing bras, but I don't want to overuse my best fitting bras. It's going to best for my budget and my bras if I wear my corset 3-4 times a week in between the days I want to go underwire braless.

- It's definitely expensive. I also have some cheap bralettes from Torrid that I have altered slightly and wear weekly. They were a lifesaver when my size changed!

  I am glad that bralettes worked for you. I was thinking about checking out Torrid, but their bands are way too big for me. I can fit a size 0 in their bathing suits but the bands run large. I am thinking that I will need to take in the band on my Aerie bralette.
  
  As far as using the corset to provide the underbust support it worked beautifully. I am so happy that I have this as an option. It was hard though because I didn't have an underwire encasing the sides of my breasts so I experienced some jiggling while I was out and about. My breasts did get in the way while I was hanging clothes and putting them up today. My breasts are splayed and rather than them being up front and centered they were hoisted high on my chest and to the side.

Panache Ariza + Panache Emily

Has anyone tried both of these bras and can compare them? Their cup design seems very similar. The Panache Emily fits me perfectly and I was wondering if Panache Ariza is worth swapping one of my listings for to try.

Random Bra Thoughts

I am not sure if this has been done before, but maybe we can keep this bra adventure going as a way to jot down our random bra thoughts.

I was looking at my Ewa, Curvy Kate, and my Gortek bras. I realized that at the top of my Ewa Bras that the wires almost over lap. In my Curvy Kate and Gortek bras, the wires are clearly well defined with a space between them. I found this pretty interesting, because I have never seen a bra manufacturer do anything like this.

- Does anyone know if bra companies have an issue with making h+ cups because they don't have the proper sewing techniques, patters, fit models, and wire types in that size range? I have realized that a bra that is shaped correctly will actually support ones bust best.
- I think some manufacturers have a core competency of cup sizes, and outside of that they scale them up or down. I have tried a few Curvy Kate and Panache, and I find they scale poorly in the small band/big cup range. It depends on the model.

Sligthly cringey and shocking but still hilarious

Omg I just need to tell someone this, you might feel sorry for me but I made the silliest mistake today and I just need someone to laugh at it with me.

I was trying to post a fit check on reddit/a bra that fits. Typically I use Imgur to upload my pictures. So I created my album with me ... in my ill fitting bras, and I accidentally hit the button Upload to Community... Oh yeah, everywhere I go disaster strikes. I swear all of you clumsy and accident prone individuals understand.

Surprisingly I didn't receive extremely sexualized comments (just one and it wasn't explicit, so I do appreciate that). One of the commenters typed what is up with all the nipples (I had a picture of me wearing the Curvy Kate Knockout bra, I am really having trouble fitting it as well). Where is the emoticon where someone looks around. Cause when I read that comment I thought holy **** I totally understand that commentors shock!

I just want to apologize to the internet and laugh at myself for my silly mistake. Now don't get me wrong I totally understand that these types of things are no laughing matter, especially because most people genuinely don't want to see nipples or almost bare breasts on anyone for that matter, but I need someone to have a good laugh with me. I am slightly freaking out on the inside, but everyone makes mistakes and I genuinely did not mean to flash the entire world today. And I just want to mention that part of the reason why I am so lighthearted about this is because a few years ago when my anxiety was way worse I would have gotten down so hard on myself, but I just want to say that learning about bras has helped me accept myself. Yes this incident sucks I now am learning how to breath and just let things fall into place.

So with that being said everyone. Please stay safe, sane, and remember that sometimes we all just have to laugh at ourselves because life is too short to always be so harsh on ourselves. Please remember to love yourself like you love your neighbor and just know that someone is always in your corner rooting you on.

By the way I still need to post my fit check and I was wondering if sheer bras or too small bras with serious quading is allowed here on bratabase. I would have posted my fit check on reddit but they don't allow bare breasts and well with my nipples almost being completely exposed in both of my curvy kate brsa, I doubt that I can post those fit checks on reddit. I totally understand their policy, so I am hoping that brabase does allow this. I bought the Curvy Kate Knockout in a 32ff a few months ago and I am having issues with the fit. I need to check the fit as well on my 32g Curvy Kate black half cup because I have some serious quadding and it is at the point to where my nipples are always popping out. I love the look of the bra, but I have no idea if I need to only go up 1 cup size or 2.

Is there anyone here like me whose breasts don't really get wider as they grow?
I have fairly narrow and deep breasts and I have realized that even though I've gone from a 32e to a 32 g/gg in a span of 3 years, that my vertical and horizontal perimeters have barely changed. My breasts though have gotten deeper and deeper. ... And I still have to wear narrow underwires.

In fact ever since I've sized out of my 32e's Cleo, Panache, and Freya are completely incompatible with my shape. Surprisingly when I went A Revealtion in Fit 5 months ago to get sized, Curvy Kate's new Scantily collection runs surprisingly narrow, I'm just now popping out of my 32g and 33ff bras that I purchased.

I'm starting to think that I just don't know how to measure myself properly.

By the way A Revealtion in Fit in Oakland, CA has a fantastic selection of bras they even carry Avocado bras and Ewa Michalak as well. And they do have bras on sale and they are willing to send you bras as well. Additonally they carry What Katie Did corsets in addition to garter belts that will hold up one's stockings.

- That's me. I have omega shaped breasts which means the roots are narrower than the tissue itself. I'm pretty sure my roots have always been pretty much the same, my breasts just get longer.
- Revelation in Fit is great. The owner, Robynne, just opened another Revelation in Fit in Los Altos, an upscale town in the peninsula area of the San Francisco Bay Area. It's about 20 minutes from San Jose. The Los Altos shop is much bigger than the Oakland shop. It'd be great for bachelorette parties. Okay, I'd attend pretty much any party in a great lingerie boutique.
  
  A couple weekends ago I discovered she also has a tiny boutique on the second level of Dark Garden, a corset shop in San Francisco. Parking around all three shops is difficult, though SF is the worst. She has Ewa Michalak and Curvy Kate/Scantilly in all three locations.

Samanta advice?

Hi guys, I am going to order Samanta bras this week for review purposes. Can you advise me what size should I pick? In majority of Polish brands I need 65G, but sometimes 65F can work. I see they have new line of push up bras - is it possible a 65F will fit once I remove the cookies?

  Maybe this is the place to start? http://www.bratabase.com/browse/samanta/reviews/ we don't have much info on that brand at the moment. Remember that they have a sort of structured model/cut coding that can have different fits, so the size you get will be determined by the model code you're looking at.
- I have only two Samanta bras, both A122 cut. Sizewise the 65G is a better fit, but measurements of some 65Fs here suggest they'd be closely fitting. I am currently mostly wearing 30E in Freya/Fauve/Fantasie, 30F in CK and Cleo, 65E in Kris Line/Ava/Nessa, 65H in Comexim, 65F in EM. I hope this helps somewhat.

Finding a bra for mom?

So my mother shares many of my shape characteristics (high set, short roots, full center, touching roots, projected, round firm tissue) but is a totally different size: 34D. She has been wearing ill fitting 36/38 B/Cs her whole life and finds firm bands painful because they squeeze her. I think this is actually because they ride up onto ... her tissue. I'd like to get her into a really comfortable padded bra (she won't do unlined) with minimal lace or painful bits and lots of bottom projection so it doesn't ride into her ribs.

What would be a good starter bra, with a softer band and lots of room at the wire? I was thinking a Comexim or Natori Glamour? Maybe Wacoal? It's hard to choose with so many options in this size.

- Natori Hidden Glamour is not very projected and doesn't accommodate center fullness. Wacoal LaFemme Contour might work for her. Try 36C.

Freya unlined Plunge Balcony styles - size down in band?

I want to try some unlined Freya plunge balcony bras, but need a little advice on sizes to order.
I'm a 38FF in Panache, and my best-fitting bras are Jasmine and Cleo Lily. I'm projected, close-set, soft, centre-full and even top/ bottom. I seem to need a lot of cup depth near the gore.
Does anyone have experience with the Freya plunge balcony styles such as Zen or Nova? I have read some reviews that say to go down a band size, so I could try 36G or should I stay with 38FF.

- I don't know about the Zen but I had to size down a cup in the Hero (which the Nova is based on). I normally wear a 32HH and have the Hero in both 32H & 30HH, both work but the band on the 32H is a little looser than I'd like.

Looking for Gorsenia fit info. There isn't a whole lot of info in the database, and I've read some (ok a lot) of the reviews, but not all of them include the pertinent details, like how firm the band is or how closed X model is on top, and quite a lot of the models have no reviews at all.

It ... looks like bands fit overall TTS, but could feel tight to those between sizes or who are accustomed to Freya-and-the-stretchy-band-club.

It also looks like gores are mostly tall and wide, outside the plunges. Is this a fair assessment?

Also not sure which model is a clone of which (or even supposed to be).

- It is so confusing. Read some of my Gorsenia reviews and you'll have a better understanding, at least, in our size range.
- calenlass maybe I can be of help? In general all padded balconettes are the same cut (Gorsenia isn't very creative with their designs), the soft ones come in either 2HC (up to H cup usually) or 3HC (also up to H cup) or a full cup (up to K cup) made by part Simplex and part netting, with one seam horizontal and one vertical.

This is probably a long shot but....does anyone know if there are any Elomi bras, in a 32 band (32J/JJ so limited options right there) with more at the wire projection than Danielle/Lottie? I love my Danielle but it's not projected enough at the bottom. I need the wide wires, and the gore isn't too high (unlike all the Panache bras available in my size which all stab me at the top of the gore). Most likely my bra doesn't exist but got everything crossed.......

- Have you tried the new Elomi Tia Bandless Bra (4280)? The gore is a bit taller but it has bottom projection for days.
- No I haven't but I was looking at it (as well as cringing at the price but if it works for me it'll be worth it). I struggle with the wires causing pain under my breasts (mainly on just one side occasionally both) which I think is partly or entirely down to not enough bottom of the cup projection, but also I have a severe diastasis recti and along with being overweight I have wondered if banded bras might also be an issue. Can you possibly clarify though what you mean by 'bottom projection for days'? Also do you know how much taller the gore is? There was hardly any information on here when I looked it up a couple of days ago. I find the lottie is marginally taller than Danielle and it digs :-(.
