    Didn't fit

This is my first Curvy Kate bra and I'm not too enthusiastic to try more. I love the style and the color but the fit is far from ideal. It looks slightly darker than in the pictures and the light blue is more pale.

It is hard to tell if the cups are the wrong shape or just a bit too small. It feels like they have less depth at the bottom which squishes my boobs to the center. So that the gore lifts away from my sternum and the stretch lace is getting stretched a lot. Overall the cup volume is like a 28E/F compared to my Cleo ... and Freya bras. There is no quadding or cutting in and the shape looks very round and lifted under clothes. But the cups feel pretty snug. I really feel the elastic ribbon at the top and I am sure it would be cutting in if my breast tissue wasn't super firm. There is also a noticeable amount of pressure at the sides where my boobs try to be wider then the bra allows them to be.

The wires are the same shape as the ones in the Cleo Marcie but not as stiff. Which makes them fit slightly wider but they don't poke me anywhere. The band could be tighter. I tried it on middle hook but this makes the wires too wide and the cups feel even smaller. I expected the light blue elastic at the bottom to be somewhat stiff (at least it looked stiff to me) but it is actually very soft and comfy.

I can't say much about the quality but the whole thing feels stretchier then my other bras. Which is also why think a 28FF would be too unsupportive in the cups. I am still keeping this one hoping that the cups will stretch out a little but also because it was quite cheap and the shape under clothes looks really nice.

    --Edit--
I had the straps too short in the pictures which caused the band to ride up.
The cups fit better with an extender but then the straps are too wide set.

too bad its not comfortable - I think its lovely.

    • 5

I think it's definitely too small, that's why the upper cups feel tight and if you had softer tissue you'd be quadding everywhere. You'd be completely fine in a 28FF. Or better yet, a 30F. This poor band is too tight, straining and flattening the bottom of the cups. I often see your reviews and think you could get a much better fit from most of your bras by sizing up a cup and a band. If you prefer everything tight and too small, that's your perogative, but you won't get a "fit" and something comfortable that way.

    • 3

I also think it looks too small. I used to wear bras with the band tight and the cups small because I have short roots and I hated tall cups, but I had that slight bulge over the top of the armpit that I should have known was a sign of a too small cup. Because there was no room out front my boobs were being squished back into my armpits. This bra is a good example: http://bra.pe/XTbh/

    • 1

It looks lovely on you but I agree with the previous comments that it's probably too small. I can't imagine that the band is loose and riding up when it's creating the gap at the back. I've gotten that in some 28 bands that I've tried recently and it's so uncomfortable. Plus, if the gore is not laying against your sternum, is it possible that the cups are too small and pushing the gore away from your chest? It's a really lovely bra on you but I think that you can benefit with at least a larger cup size if you prefer a band that tight.

    • 2

      Thank you for your input!

I just tried it with an extender and loosened the straps, which were probably too short to begin with. Now the wires fit much better and there is less pressure on the lower part of the cups but the gore still doesn't tack and the extender also makes the straps too wide. So I will give this another try in a 30F and maybe 28FF hoping that the larger cup size won't make the wires too wide again.

I probably have to accept the fact that bras with softer wires (like Freya and obviously Curvy Kate) cannot be worn this tight. But I do have a few 30E/F bras and they are still supportive enough for me to wear at home or for an "office only" workday. So there is probably still good use for this one in a 30F.

    • 3

aboobaccount I seem to recall you are the poster who wears bands as tight as possible due to sensory issues (a preference for the feeling of compression)? I would suggest trying longline bras, which usually feel and fit much firmer for the same band size compared to a standard bra. I think they might work better for you, providing that firm secure sensation without complicating the fit of the cups so much.

    • Please be sure to let us know what other sizes you try and how they fit. Re: wide straps with extender...have you considered lengthening the straps and turn them into racer back? I think that the suggestion that wendybien has made with the longline is an interesting one and I would be curious to see how it works for you. I hope that you can get the right size in this bra and love it as much as lcl0706 and I do.

I tried the Cleo Breeze (http://bra.pe/MFFz/) a few month ago but the cups were not the right shape and it was not comfortable while sitting down. Also my torso is a little V-shaped so the band was too tight at the top and too loose at the bottom. I like the Comexim Joy (http://bra.pe/MEvW/) but can't find it anywhere. The Freya Francis also looks nice and I already found a cheap one on eBay.

      For clarification
I don't actually want to be compressed. I like it when a bra fits snug but the main reason I wear a 28F/FF is that my boobs feel more supported and less jiggling. I work as a network engineer in an automated warehouse. Meaning I often have run or climb ladders. And I absolutely hate the feeling of my boobs moving around. Or having to adjust my bra before rushing into some meeting. In a good 28 band like my Panache Georgia (http://bra.pe/XYON/) I can actually forget that I have boobs. I never have to adjust anything and the shape is much better then with some bulky sports bra. But I do switch into a 30F / 32E or even a bralette when I get home.

      @calluna
I will keep you updated after giving my wallet a break from all the bra shopping. I just notice that I spend well over 200โ‚ฌ on bras in the last 3 months.

    • 2

Ya know I was thinking about your need for a lot of support/locked in boobs at work and wondered if youโ€™d ever considered sports bras at work, like Panache Sport. Then I thought about Ewa and how you may really like her SF cut. Iโ€™ve never tried it, but the construction is such that your boobs shouldnโ€™t budge all day. A tight band/too small cups isnโ€™t going to offer more support, itโ€™s just going to smash everything down. The SF in a proper size should really contain everything - itโ€™s like a blend of her BM and FB models and available in your size range. Great depth at the wire and the bottom half of the cup is reinforced for added lift and jiggle protection. Itโ€™s going to do a lot more work in terms of holding the girls still than something like this CK or other UK bras that are often a single layer of mesh in our size range. If you do decide to spring for one I wouldnโ€™t go smaller than a 65F, as her bands often run quite tight. I think your overall shape is going to be a good match for Ewa in the long run, specifically thinking of the S and SF cuts.

    • 1

lcl0706 great advice! I also think finding bands in your size with more hooks is a good idea. I feel more secure the wider the band. To that end I was going to suggest Curvy Kate Luxe. It's a strapless so it's made to keep everything in place and has a nice supportive band and firm cups. And you could also still wear it with the straps.

Most other CK bras aren't going to be for you as they are softer than what you want and have more jiggly straps.

Comexim longlines are also an idea, as are wired sports bras. Good luck!

    • Except just in the previous comment she said "my Panache Georgia (http://bra.pe/XYON/) I can actually forget that I have boobs. I never have to adjust anything and the shape is much better then with some bulky sports bra. "

so i guess she doesnt like sports bras.

aboobaccount ohhh ok I see what you were talking about now. In our previous discussion I think it was more general and it sounded like you preferred a sense of secure compression around ribs instead. Now I see you are talking about the actual breasts, that's rather different. I used to teach university students and what with gesturing during lectures, leaning over to consult with student groups during projects, writing on the board and erasing the board in front of the class I definitely wanted my bras to be like armor so I know exactly what you are talking about!

To keep the bust completely secure and minimize movement, really what is most needed is complete containment of the breast tissue. This means a design where the edge of the cup ends at or above the edge of the breast mass, i.e. a very, very full coverage bra. This does NOT have to be a sports bra btw. Some of my typical workday bras that provided industrial-strength secure fit when I was teaching are listed under my profile, I was much bigger then but you will see the style of bras: good old-fashioned full cups!. Prima Donna Deauville, the full cup Chantelle Rive Gauche are two examples. Don't be put off by the old lady appearance of these specific ones because it's not something you are forced to tolerate along with the containment--personally I like the retro touch, but if you prefer a more mainstream and modern appearance you can absolutely find the same bra construction and the same super-secure containment in styles with smooth fabrics.

Anyway, although you will see fewer of the full-cup styles in your size range on this site, because in your size especially we have a strong majority of younger users who are typically more responsive to the marketing and design of moderate to lower-coverage bras, those bras are definitely out there.

Tl;dr version it sounds like your ideal "work bras" would be the opposite of what you've been trying: full coverage, fairly deep/wide band, centered straps and an optimal shape match to ensure that you don't budge. These can definitely be found in non-sports designs and if you don't like the vintage/old lady full cup look, these do exist in minimalist designs as well! For a rounded shape it's best to try on but this can be obtained too.

    • lcl0706, dbmamaz

I tried the Shock Absorber Active (http://bra.pe/MBtR/) in a 30E (couldn't even close the 28F). It is very supportive but gives me a flat uniboob shape. But that is probably by design. I also have the Panache Sports bra in a 28F. The shape is not too bad. But it gets very warm and sweaty after a few hours. The same goes for the Freya Active (http://bra.pe/MCTk/).

I like the EM SF-line you recommended, especially the Kobalt and the Trapez. Too bad the Royal Blue (http://bra.pe/MGYT/) seems to be discontinued. According to the EM site they all start at 30F. So I hope they run small.

      @cupandahalf
I also like wider bands better. I totally don't get how Cleo bras only have two hooks even in very large cups sizes while Panache (same company) uses 3. Unfortunately I can't stand strapless bras. These silicon stripes on the band drive me nuts.

      @wendybien
Thank you so much for the detailed response. I didn't try a real full cup bra yet. But I found that my most supportive bras in terms of breast movement are the ones with stiff wires and stronger fabric at least in the lower part of the cups. Maybe this is due to my super firm tissue: So if the bottom part of my breast can't budge the top won't move as well. I am still going to try a full cup bra. At work I really don't care how my bras look as long as they fit properly.

Just out of curiosity: Did you find that you can wear a larger band size if the cups are more full coverage?

    • 1

aboobaccount well I can't say I experimented a great deal, but I'll say I experienced it from the opposite end--a LOWER coverage style makes it more necessary to err on the side of a tighter band for me. So in that sense yes I suppose I'd say full cup/full coverage does allow a very secure feeling without such a tight band. Prima Donna (if you should choose to try it) also runs rather tight in the bands in many models anyway. Re: nonstretch material, yes, for this type of workhorse full-containment bra, they tend to use only thick, robust, nonstretch materials--even what looks delicate in photos (lace or embroidered tulle) is typically nonstretch and quite tough. Rive Gauche is the exception, I found the materials effectively did have stretch, so perhaps not the best bet for you.

The band fits amazingly well. It feels snug but not too tight and it's very comfortable. However, I found that when I sat down the wires under my arms poked me. I cannot completely fill the cup on my right side (typical) and the fabric showed through my t-shirt. The strap on the left side rubbed into my arm and left a mark (right too but not as bad). I adjusted the straps for a better fit but it wasn't comfortable fabric.

I think the cups are too wide and too short. Wire is encroaching on the side of bigger boob; extra fabric in smaller cup. Doesn't fit well. Fairly comfortable, nice looking bra.

    • I think we are boob twins. Or at least very close to that! While Ellace does fit on top, the sides are just weird - too short and wide wires. I do also experience with lots of bras digging in at the top due to long roots. It looks like youre even/FOB? Im FOB/Even + tall roots, and not many soft bras except Ewa Michalak, Comexim and HCQ/H/HCT Avocado fit me. However, I love the ellace despite is not great fit, but this bra is very comfortable - I own 3 of them and just learned to live with the issues :D
Re your Cleo Skye. While it looks good on you, sizing up or down won't solve problems. I found that SKYE is the most comfortable soft cleo but in Aqua version, the purple is less comfortable even if I have both in same size. Ive own SKYE in 30E and 32DD, and no difference when wearing - wires are eqaully showing that they exist. I think is just cleo, how its made. I used to be able wear marcies but not anymore, they re too much pain for me. If you want painless Cleo, try Mimi - its really great, but wires might be on little too wide side.

    • Black lace looks gorgeous on you....as does periwinkle blue Andorra :-)

    • I think Ellace can be a difficult fit. From what I understand, it works great for center fullness (which isn't me!). I have trouble with the stretch lace. But like martka00, I find it very comfortable despite the flaws. But it sounds like this one isn't a winner for you - even though it looks nice. :)

I think this looks like your best fit yet. Just my opinion. These cups are definitely not too wide. If anything, based on the last pic, they're borderline too narrow.

    • I agree with lcl0706 , again, lol. I just wanted to add that these wires are the same width as your Cleo Skye where you do not mention the wires being too wide. Definitely your best fit yet.

    • Love4Pollinators thank you!! : )

    • lcl0706 and LeProfessor : I tried on the bra again and pushed it up into my IMF. I am not used to having wires there!!

I guess I just feel like one of the cups is a bit too small and one of them is a bit too big. I also like more coverage on the sides and front.

I took a few pics if it would be helpful..

      Any bra suggestions?

I sized up to a 34JJ because I've found CK's unlined balconies to run a bit small. I do have some wrinkling on the outside of the cup and at the very top of the lace, but I'm not sure I could go down a cup.

This bra is really well made and comfy. All the material on the bra is very soft. As usual with CK's larger cup sizes, I wish the straps were wider and scaled to a larger, heavier breast. These bothered me less than CK's straps usually do, though.

Again: super comfy. I tried really hard to convince myself to keep this bra, but I ... just can't justify it when it gives me such an obvious bubble/quadboob where the lace meets the laminate cup. There's only a very thin piece of elastic at the top of the stretch lace which is the usual culprit for this kind of quadboob issue, but I guess I can't tolerate anything there. The only unlined bras that don't give me this effect at all are Panache Envy and Clara. This bra is constructed very similarly to those two, with the exception of the elastic and side support on Envy/Clara. I'm really tempted to keep this one and see if I can't remove the piece of elastic.

I pulled the elastic in at the top of the gore and tacked it there, making it a firmer fit, and that removed the in cup quadding for me. As a test, pull the top of the lace edge in towards the gore and see if that helps at all.

    • 1

cupandahalf *facedesk* I'm an idiot. When I was trying it on I actually pulled at the lace a little and thought gosh, if only the lace was tighter! I never thought of sewing the lace to the gore. I'll try that before removing the elastic (after I posted this review I convinced myself to keep it).

    Didn't fit

I bought this at a boutique today. I tried on 3 colorways: latte (nude), black, and red. The nude bra was the first and it fit perfectly and gave me good projection. It fit flat against my sternum and the narrower cups seemed to work well for my close-set breasts. I now understand what many of you mean about getting more projection with narrower cup styles. This definitely gives a front and center look.

The black is gorgeous in person! Much prettier than how it looks in the picture. I like it better than the nude and the red. Unfortunately, the black in 38GG was not the same size ... in the cup as the nude and red colorways. It was a tad small and cut into my breast tissue on the sides under the arm. I'm not sure if all the black bras run smaller or if it was some kind of quality control error. I might try a 38H down the road, just to see.

I'll post back later once I've worn the Ellace for a day or two, so I can comment on any fit issues after wearing it all day.

Update: After wearing it all day, there is a bit of an issue with the wire on the right side. It rubs a bit at the top under the arm, so it looks like the latte is having a similar issue to the black bra, but I didn't notice it until wearing it for a couple of hours. I'm hoping there's a way to adjust the wire since it fits well everywhere else. I was aware of the center gore pressing on me, but it didn't feel painful or chafing. I think it's just that this bra tacks completely against my chest (which doesn't always happen with my close-set breasts). Since it is new, it hasn't been broken in yet, but probably as the band loosens, it won't press as firmly. I will measure the bra today and see if the cup is a tiny bit too narrow or if the wire is short. My guess is that maybe I need the cup a tiny bit wider on the right side.

Black dyes require higher temperatures and the materials shrink when dyed at those temperatures. As an engineer very familiar with foundries and metal shrinkage, these bra patterns can be designed to compensate for the shrinkage. If we can design 3D molds that replace 200+ separate components for molten metal, fabric would be, relatively, simple. We need more engineers in bra design ;-) ;-) Giggle.

    • It looks like the latte has a bit of the same issue as the black (with the right side wire ending on breast tissue), so now I'm not sure if the black and the latte were the same or if it is as I suspected and the black was cut a hair smaller and I just didn't notice the problem in the latte at first.

Love4Pollinators what you said makes sense, so it's possible the manufacturers didn't adjust for shrinkage.

    Didn't fit

I really, really wanted this bra to fit because I've heard it would be perfect for my short rooted, FOB projected shape. Unfortunately it is more suited to narrow to average roots, at least in this size range, as the wires dig into my breast tissue - I have wide roots. I may be too short rooted even for this bra as there is still some wrinkling at the top of the cup. I will try sizing down one size in case it too big overall. There was some strange wrinkling on the outsides of the cups too, so that might be the case. It's not very secure either, there is a lot of movement and jiggling, even when walking. I don't know if this will be helped much by going down a cup size, I don't feel very supported or strapped in at all. It's a very pretty, sexy bra, but that doesn't matter too much if it doesn't function as a bra should.

    • Is it digging in to your breasts on the sides or in the center? I ask only because I''m wondering if you're center full rather than wide rooted if you're getting wrinkling on the outsides of the cup, which can sometimes mean you're not filling it out all the way.

    • It digs in on the sides. Or, not so much digging in, but the wires just aren't wide enough. Where they come up on the outsides, the wires sit on breast tissue. I have short but wide roots, like squashed ovals. There is actually not a lot of tissue at my roots, more like loose, empty skin, and maybe some migrated breast tissue under my arms. Like grapefruits in socks when I'm unsupported. Gravity has not been my friend. In a well fitting bra, I lose 1 1/2 - 2 inches of length/ projection at the top, and my boobs basically go straight out. Hence, very short roots, I think.
I am close set towards the middle, so sometimes my tissue is a little squished in the centre at the top. Close set at the top, but splayed, so gores that are narrow at the top and get wide at the bottom, like Elomi Carmen suit me best. I did try this in a FF but it didn't work either. Even though the shape was almost spot on, turns out that when my boobs have adequate projection and no extra coverage on top with too tall cups, they don't have anywhere near enough support :(

Ah, okay. That makes sense! It seems like we may have pretty similar measurements, though I've not been able to find an Elomi I like yet.

    • I quite like the plunges personally. I've got Carmen and Anushka and I really like them. I could do with a bit more projection at the wire, and there is some strap gap, but beyond that they fit pretty well. The Carmen has elastic along the top of the cups to keep them nicely closed off. I've actually been having a chat with someone else in a similar size to us on her review of the Matilda. You might want to check it out.

I have a really hard time finding bras that are deep enough at the wire. It's my main problem at this point. I've got a Wellfitting Demi in the mail that I have high hopes for.

Will check out the other discussion, thanks!

    • I hope the Wellfitting one works out for you. Fingers crossed.

    Didn't fit

I wrote a pretty thorough review of this same bra in a different size (34G - Curvy Kate ยป Ellace Balcony Bra (CK4401) ) so this one will be shorter.

The band was way too big, to an absurd degree. I immediately fastened it on the tightest hooks and it was still loose. The cups of this 34GG were indistinguishable from the 34G I tried on at the same time. Despite all the hype that this bra should basically be exactly what I'm looking for shape-wise, I found it kind of mediocre. The band was loose, the wires too wide, the cups wrinkled on top, cups ... were a bit tall, straps too wide-set. None of these were really drastic, but it adds up to a bra that I'll be returning to Amazon. I think if it had fit properly, it would definitely be a keeper - all the materials were comfortable, and I love the sturdy elastic at the bottom. I do hope they change the stretch lace in future versions; it's much stretchier than the material of the cup and this mismatch makes the bra prone to in-cup quadding.

I tried on the Crimson color way, and it was beautiful - a nice burgundy color without any purple undertones. The elastic at the bottom of the band is a contrasting champagne color on the black version of this bra, but on this version it all matches.

    Fits

Feel: This bra seems to be a similar cut/shape/support as the Florence. The difference is the stretch lace on the top of the cup. The rest of the cup is a soft non-stretch mesh. The band is firmer than the Florence, less stretch, so the correct band size is necessary. The wires are softer than my Curvy Kate Cabaret, and I can't tell if they would mold to the body or not as I'm not keeping this bra. All the fabric is soft and comfortable. The band has a layer of soft thick latte colored fabric on the bottom for softness and support. ... This matches the bows. The straps are stretchy and fully adjustable.

Shape: Narrow and super deep. The gore is also narrower. The wings are low and don't cut in. The straps look wide but that's with an extender. In my proper band size they would fit well and there would be no gapping under my armpit. Though there is no side sling in the three part cup there is no side projection or flattening. In total, a perfect shape for me, and ideally creating a projected but rounded shape.

Fit: This bra technically fits perfectly. I get a great gore tack but the wires are softer so they don't dig in to my chest. There are some serious problems with this bra in my size/breast texture. My breasts are very soft and soft materials allow them to wobble and bob. Besides the band, the very soft stretchy straps combined with the very soft stretchy lace produce create a scenario where my breasts feel like they can move around freely. I like more containment and bounce minimization than the Ellace can provide me. On top of that, though the depth is amazing, the difference between the non stretch bottom and stretch top cause very visible in cup quadding. I feel that if the lace and straps were only a little more stretch restricted none of this would be a problem and I would have the perfect bra.

  10. I was encouraged to try a 30FF: it did not fit. So, I ordered another 30G.

Here is the review from the 1st 30G review:
