    OVERALL RATING: 5/10
    DESERVING PRICE: £10-20
BEST FOR: Moderately wide roots; teenagers and young girls with developing breasts; potentially trans women; moderately shallow breasts; projected breasts (size up); everyday wear; fuller-breasted or FoT people who want tavern cleavage.

Freya Patsy is an underwired, lightly padded half-cup bra that comes in lots of colours and patterns, but this one is black and a sort of dusky pink-beige. The lace is a few shades lighter than the polka dots, which are almost beige-brown. The ribbon on the gore matches the lace colour rather than the dots. It doesn't suffer from any manufacture issues, but the fabric feels a little cheap in an ... 'organza'-like way. It's a low-to-mid range, and I'd expect to pay somewhere in the range of £10-£20 in a boutique for this bra.

    PROS:

LOOKS: Comes in a bazillion styles, you'll find one you like. Very pretty and dainty. Extremely flexible cups due to very light padding. Beautiful bra for teens and younger girls. Excellent quality sewing and manufacture.

COMFORT AND FIT: Comfy inner lining. Comfy gore, quite long - so not good for girls with short nip-to-neck lengths. Band runs tighter than Freya usually does, but quite flexible. The straps on this bra are a good distance apart, so they will not poke into your armpits or scratch your skin.

CLEAVAGE: This bra will give fierce cleavage for fuller, rounder breasts, and good cleavage for shallow breasts too. Close-set, projected, full breasts will get true ‘tavern Wench’-style cleavage from this bra. Projected breasts will look better in this bra, but shallower breasts will be comfier (due to the shape of the cups).

    CONS:

    QUALITY ISSUES
FABRIC: the outer fabric of this bra is awful. I personally find it scratchy and cheap-feeling. It feels like a softer organza. The lace on the upper section of the cups sometimes scratches the cleavage uncomfortably - it is not soft, and therefore not good for girls with skin sensitivity issues or eczema.

    FIT ISSUES
STRAPS: The straps on this bra are a good and wide. Unfortuantely, because they are so wide and because of the scratchy fabric, they can feel a little scritchy when you lean forward or stretch. The inside of the strap has a running stitch to secure the fabric, and this can be a little scratchy too. They are a good length, and so the cup does not tend to gap dramatically when you move.

CUPS: This is a half-cup bra, but the cut seems more like a balconette to me. The cups are open at the top, which will inevitably lead to gaping issues for girls who aren't Full on Top. I can't comment on cleavage in this bra, because I found that even when swoop and scooped, whilst not minimising, it doesn't seem to give good cleavage at all. Fuller breasted girls may find that they love this bra for cleavage, but shallower girls will find it extremely hit-and-miss. I think this bra would make an excellent everyday bra for girls with more projected breasts.

WIRE: The wire is moderately wide, but because the cup is only light padded, it doesn't seem to give much support by way of wide roots. It isn't the best for girls with wide roots, and will give you armpit muffin (damn you, armpit muffin) in tandem with its average-sized band. Girls with normal roots might find some empty space at the sides. The cup-strap join is not too high, so if you're looking for something to wear with low-cut scoop necks, this might work for you.

FABRIC/PATTERN: The lace sticks up a little haphazardly, and does show through and deform tight and light-coloured shirts when I wear it.
GORE: This bra has a relatively high degree of cup separation (distance between the cups), which could be a problem for girls with close-set breasts, and may cause the gore to dig into your breast tissue painfully.

    ABOUT ME
MY BREASTS: wide roots, moderately full on top, moderately shallow; 30G-32FF

    • Regarding the material, I have had this bra in 4 colorways. The magenta is the softest, then the ballet pink, then ink, and the black has the roughest outer fabric and runs firmer than the others.

    • Yeah, I have the unpadded version in pink and it's SO much softer. My main complaint with this bra is its fabric, so I think if it was a better fit for me I'd be inclined to try the other colours

My shape: teardrop with even fullness, super tall and super wide roots, very close-set tissue in the center, and all the fitting problems shallow ladies have but with more immediate projection.

This review is for the black colorway.

Received this bra yesterday in a swap, and I am pretty perplexed. It fits very similarly to the 30G - Freya » Patsy Padded Half Cup Bra (1223) longline I used to have, which was about 1 size too big in the cups. I believe I have gone down a cup size since then, but I don't think I've lost that much fullness or weight or changed sizes THAT much, ... because my other half cups in 30F and my 30FF - Freya » Marvel Side Panel Bra (1501) fit me pretty well, so I'm not sure how this 30FF seems to be a whole 2 sizes too big! I did notice that these cups are quite a lot taller than the Marvel's, and definitely taller than my Fauve half-cups, so maybe that has a lot to do with it. I have a Freya Ivy Padded Longline Bra (1333) coming from another swap soon, so I'll compare it to that too just to be sure.

I will say that I am pretty confident now that I need 28 bands in Freya (except maybe the longlines, because of the difference in tension distribution across larger fabric expanses). I thought my Marvel had stretched a tad because it was gently used when I got it, but I'm sure now that it hasn't stretched and the tightest hooks are where I would have needed to wear it anyway. This one is very stretchy and soft, and it shifts and wants to slide down even on the tightest hooks, causing the center bridge/gore to chafe a little and pulling the underwires down, which makes the bottom of the cups difficult to fill. It also pulls away in a little wrinkle along the top edge of the wing between the side seam and the strap under my arm, but this may possibly be due to a mismatch with my ribcage shape.

When it sits where it's supposed to, the center bridge is comfy enough, even though it's so high. The wires rest on the very edge of my breast tissue in the center, which isn't perfect, but I have yet to find a bra with center wires stacked on top of each other unless I sew them that way myself.

The cups gape like crazy, though. They are so big that, even though they are soft and there are no ridges to show through a shirt that would otherwise hold them in place against my boob, the empty fabric wrinkles, so you can see them anyway. The placement of the straps so far out - basically in my armpits, although just shy of rubbing - really doesn't help the matter any, and I can see the sides of the cups buckling independently from the rest of the fabric when I shrug my shoulders, but it really does just make the whole situation more extreme.

Listing this one right away so I can try a 28F as soon as possible!

    • Yeah I recently read somewhere on here that Patsy runs large!

Not happy for you that it doesn't fit, but thanks for this thorough review - for me it means I might give Patsy a try (borderline sized out of Freya halfcups) .

    • Thanks! I try to be thorough, because just saying "fits great" or whatever doesn't help anyone.

Maybe the longline has shorter cups, because I don't remember having this much of a crazy time with mine. It was too big in the cups, but it wasn't like this! I did my research, too, so somehow I missed people saying it runs large. :S

Good luck in your search! I hope it works out for you.

    • 1

Hmm yes I suppose it might just be the tallness then, making some people say it runs large but not on others?

Looking up measurements in the size I think I'd need (30H) they don't seem large or unusual. Good idea on here to start adding a measurement for tallness! Obviously (too) tall cups will really influence the fit.
And yeah I know the feeling, doing your research on a bra and still it doesnt work out -__-

To remedy your gaping / tallness issue; (for this bra or future bras) you might try changing the strap placement? If you centre the straps a bit more, the cup fit will also improve :)

~ Discovered this when replacing straps because of armpit-chafing. (But mostly works on a tiny gap / near fit)

    What a beautiful bra!
Lovely bra, green with white dots, very good material, supportive, the padding is not too thick, so no complaint.

Well, I think it's one of the most comfortable bra I've tried, but my boobs have got bigger so the fit wasn't perfect. The cups indeed seemed a bit small, I would probably need a 30G.

The band was obviously too large for my 26-28, but I am used to alter all of the cute bras I can't find in my size.

Overall, one of the cutest bras, I will keep it even if there's a quad boob effect, it's just too comfy!

    ---------------------------

    Update :
The Freya half cups are just not for me.
I tried most of them in the past 2 years, and can't find anything that isn't cutting into the sides or the top -or both-, or making my boobs look shapeless.
I've reluctantly decided to stop trying half cups.

    Fits

Patsy was the first bra that ever fit me. I cried when I found it. I have owned the ink and black colorways since then. However, I recently lost weight. I ignored the gaping at the top of my 30G Patsy for a little too long. After finding some new bras that fit in 28G and 30FF, I decided to replace my beloved Patsy because I really need some lightly padded bras that are suitcase friendly, quick-drying and will work for warm weather. I couldn't afford the full retail price of the continuity colors, but I found a deal on the magenta colorway. I sadly also couldn't find ... an affordable 28-band. The band on this one is a little big. I've had my other Patsys for over a year and wear them on the third hook. This one is almost that loose already, so I wonder if the magenta colorway runs large.

I have discovered a few lingering fit issues that are more than just "I need to go down a cup" as I thought would be the case. I thought the 30FF would get my perfect Patsy back, but it hasn't. I have lost some upper fullness and I think this had led to a shape change as well as reducing my cup size. For instance, the 28G - Freya » Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234) fits me now when I previously had no luck at all with Decos because of my upper fullness. There is still a bit of room in the cups on this Patsy, again I think the colorway may be affecting this because it gapes only a little less than the Black 30G I already have. I have to tighten the straps nearly all the way. Still, there is a tiny bit of gaping when I relax my shoulders fully.

Because the FF fits my frame better (G cups were always a little wide and armpit invading), I can tighten the straps more than I could with my old Patsy. I have to tighten them nearly all the way to accommodate my very short roots, but thankfully since the wires are shorter than in a 30G, they no longer poke me.

I notice more than before that the gore is a little wide for me. It's not that bothersome, but it does poke a little towards the top. I probably had this with my other Patsys but have worn them so many times that it softened up.

All in all I will keep this bra unless I find a 28G rapidly and will probably have to use a Rixie clip before the year is out. I am now considering trying one of the other Freya half cups with the horizontal panel at the top of the cup. I prefer the very rounded shape of Patsy, the level of padding (I find it to be thicker than the 30G - Freya » Eden Padded Half Cup Bra (1813), for instance, and don't want any thin cups) and hope I can find something similar that is more closed on top and still summer friendly.

    • For what it's worth, Patsy is my daily wear bra and the related Freya half cups don't work as well for me because the top of the cup is more closed and the bands are tighter. I wear a 30G in the Patsy but need a 32G in the other styles. So maybe one of those would work better for you? I have a NWT 30G Secret Garden that is too small for me. I was going to stash it in my drawer in case I shrank a little but you're interested in it, let me know. :)

    • MissV Thanks for the offer! 30FF is definitely my size now in all Freya half cups, though. The last time I tried the horizontal seam Freya half cups, they gave me a slightly pointier shape. I'm meaning to try another soon.

This is one of the Bratabase recommendations for me, and the fit has two main issues: first, the straps are set way too far apart. They curve right into my armpits and are very annoying. Secondly, the cups gape just below the straps whenever I move. However, they fit fine standing straight, even on my smaller side.
The band is a little snug, but it's not uncomfortable. It neither accentuated back fat or minimized it. If I had kept this one I would use an extender until it was broken in. The width of the straps doesn't bother me; neither does the height of the gore, (which actually surprised me, since anything taller than two inches sits on my center fullness.)
I like the polka dots and the neutral shade of pink, but I still don't like seams in cups (my personal pet peeve)....and these show way too much under my clothes.

    Pretty... Pretty... but...

This bra is for shallow, wide root, Full on top. And my breast is projected, narrow root, full on bottom.
What was I thinking when I orderd it? How can I think that this bra fits me?

    Used to fit

    Dear Patsy,

What can I say? You were one of my first well-fitting bras. When we first met, I had my doubts. I thought your ink coloring with polka dots and pink lace were a little clownish, and I was afraid of show-through. I was afraid your fabric would be itchy.

But I was wrong. You were beautiful and I loved you. You were comfortable, uplifting, and gave just enough top cleavage to be classy. As my boobs have grown and shrunk and grown and shrunk over the past year, you've been there for me, even if it's just during PMS week.

But now, as I've grown my bra collection, ... I've come to realize that you and I are not soul mates. Your wires are a little too wide, and sometimes that bothers me. I can no longer deny that your band is a little too stretchy, and not as supportive as some of the other bras in my drawer. Your cups are a little tall and a little shallow, and that means I have to tighten up the straps a little too much to get the right lift and support to avoid the gape/quad effect and get a smooth line across the top.

I'm going to have to let you go. But I will always remember how good you were to me. Maybe I'll find you in a tighter band and a different cup to see if we can resolve our issues and be together forever. But until then, I'll stick with your unlined sisters for narrower wires and more projection.

    Love, Ritzyrunnergurl

I have this bra in the pink and charcoal color. It's really cute and I love the polka dots. The nice thing about this bra is it isn't moulded but still padded enough to not show nipples. It's soft and the details make so pretty. The cups are ever so slightly too wide for me. The band also feels more like a 32 band. I have a feeling this will be the bra I wear when Aunt flo visits because its stretchy and not nearly as firm as my other bras that fit. Despite the fact that the band and width isn't stellat for me I'll keep it https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" /> the straps are fully adjustable. It has a two hook closure but still feels more stable then my Cleo Maddie witg two hooks.

    1. Wires are too wide. Empty space under the arms (and tight band causes the wire under my right arm to jab into my skin because of a rib flare on this side).
    2. Band fits well; might benefit from a 32 instead. Looser band would potentially prevent the wire jabbing into my underarm on my right side.
    3. Smallest amount of quadding in the cups on my larger breast. This becomes especially evident as it is worn and the cups shift downward on my torso.
    4. This downward shift leads me to believe there is not enough immediate projection at the bottom of the cups for me.
    5. Gore is the tiniest bit too wide, and is a little itchy and annoying for me at the height that it is.
