I've made a chart showing sizes 34C (my starting point) - 28G and how the cups change with the bands. Then I marked all the sizes I know I am not in red. (For example, I know I am not a 34A, so I marked off that entire column and anything smaller, eliminating 11 sizes, on that alone.) So, as you can see, I've narrowed my correct size down to somewhere between 28E/DDD and 30G/H. Only 8 more sizes to eliminate!

I have to say, this is rather impressive! I totally applaud your efforts :) Are you able to go to a boutique or other non victoria's secret store for a fitting?
Thank you! I figure if I have to start shelling out over $50 per bra, I should be organized about it. Sadly, I don't live anywhere near a good lingerie store. But I feel as though I am making rather good progress, nonetheless.

When I first found Bratabase I wore a 34F Pollyanna, Millie and retro. They sat flat at center gore. Today when I tried them on oh goodness...
However: I thought I would fit all of my back fat into the cups and I went up cup size after cup size after cup size.
I could clearly get away the fat ... from my back without problem as long as I had something to put it in. I also could indeed place it on top of my boobs making me fuller on top (which I still think is my actual shape), but when I lifted my arms the boobs would fall apart.
So I've come to the conclusion that yes I have remigrated some of my back fat. But no, I had not remigrated ALL of my back fat.
And I don't know why I even did it. I like being fat, I don't mind it, I'm a fat acceptance activist since 5 years, why on earth would I go around torturing myself with trying to get into uncomfortable bras and get rid of fat while I don't even consider fat ugly?!
In a smaller bra size my boobs has shape and I have back fat and armpit fat. In a bigger bra I will have no armpit fat, no back fat but the fit in a bra will be totally distorted!
So I've decided sizing down. On cups. While at the same time try going back to a 34 band. I have no clue what size I will be. But I've yet to try the 34G-GG so probably that's where I start.
I feel really stupid now!

I have "armpit fat" too. I've had lots of people tell me to buy a bra that fits when my armpit fat is shoved in the cups. Well, 10 minutes later the fat is back in my armpits, and the bra cups are gaping, which is not a good look. I think I'm ok with just having fat armpits :)
Exactly that feeling! Maybe it got there by a too small bra to begin with, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will get away.

Received my first Ultimo bra in the mail today. Ultimo Spy. I was a bit nervous about the size since I've been reading some not so good reviews about Ultimo on various blogs. I just couldn't resist ordering it, since it looked so wonderful on the pictures. Apparently it runs small in the cup and the brand seems to work ... best for shallow breasts. I'm a 32FF and so ordred a 32G on the Ultimo website, the largest size available. And what a wonderful surprise! It's absolutely gorgeous and a perfect fit in both band and cup! Will have to get the matching brief before they disappear.

I used to like Panache regular bras, until I grew past G-cup and their high underwires under the arm began to seriously dig into my ribcage. I was really disappointed, since I really adore the shape Panache Tango et al. give. I got Bravissimo's newest catalogue yesterday and when I saw them advertizing that Panache has remodelled some of their new bras and cut lower the underwires under the arm, I decided to give the new Elsa bra a try. I'll likely get it next week. Aaargh, I hate waiting!

What Panache bras did you try? They are very different from style to style. On me the Tango-bras are the worst, while Sienna and Confetti works fine. Masquerade and Cleo bras does in general work better as well, especially those more generous in the cup (Chloe, Alexa, Rhea, Delphi etc). :)
I have no experience of Cleo and Masquerade bras, but I've had several Tangos, in both plunge and balconette. I've also had one Sienna and Ariza, and neither worked on me. The Andorra was tolerable, but I didn't like the material. I've been wanting to try the Masquerade Rhea for a long time but as it goes only to H cup, I haven't bothered. Would be too small for me, likely. I considered ordering the Cleo Meg, but in the end I decided to try the Elsa.

The best fitting bra I've tried until now considering wires, depth, wings and cup construction are the Goddess Alice 34HH. It's too big on top though. It doesn't mess up with stability but it's visual under clothing as it wrinkles like mad and the fabric is so thick.
But turned inside out it has satin cups, with the same type of ... vertical seams you see on the CK Tease me.
It's a fullcup that's constructed like a balcony with the side support panel bottom section coming up to meet the straps. The strap section could be cut off to make the bra lower cut.
Then the upper section would need to be cut down. Like in that alteration brasIhate used to make a high cut bra lower cut, but this time not only the lace will go but almost all the upper section. That will make the ex nude fullcup bra an unpadded open top halfcup or demi bra with matte golden satin cups. The fit of the cups will then probably be something in between Effuniak HM and HP bras.
The band will then be needed to be cut off and turned on the right side so the eyes and hooks is usable. Also the center gore will be taken in boobius maximus style. The question is weather or not the wire channel will remain visible or of I will need to decorate it in some kind of way.
I don't want to make a perfect looking bra like the brasIhate alterations. I want it to look home made and punkish in style with visible seams and cuts. I am no seamstress in any kind of way.
First I wasn't sure if this was even doable and was afraid I would mess up the construction of the bra completely. But now I think it might actually work out. However I do admit the idea all together is very weird and crazy. Turning a bra inside out and reconstruct it all together are probably not the first bra alteration to consider and I'm not even a huge fan of satin. But it just looked kind of cool inside and out.

Before we get into the real meat of the endeavor here (finding you a bra that fits and makes you look and feel fabulous, no compromises!) first we have to take a few baby steps. There is so much misinformation ...

I realized turning the bra inside out would be too much, so I skipped that part. I'm just making the full cup a half cup :)
Instead of having to cut the sides in order to make the closure useable, you can take the closure itself off, then swap the sides they're sewn on.

Oi, okay, so I keep having this problem on all of my bras (aside from my What Katie Dids). There is massive overspill on the sides of the demi cup, (and usually out the bottom, as well, but gapping where the band attaches. Obviously, the cup size is too small, but why can I put my hand in the top? ... Is it a posture thing? Do demis hate me?? I did try to re-size myself last night and got
Underbust 28”, bust 34.5”-34.75”
Bra size:
US 28G or 28H?
UK 28F (60F) or 28FF (60FF)?
EU 60G or 60H?
FR/ES/B 75G or 75H
AU/NZ 6F (60F) or 6FF (60FF)
I also think there is a good chance that once I get into the right size, there may be quite a bit of migration. But at the moment, I am flat broke and they idea of spending that much money on bras that may not even fit is overwhelming...

What bras and sizes are you getting these issues in? My first thought when you said its's gapping out of the bottom is that the band is too large.
Betsey Johnson 34A, Fruit of the Loom 34C, Victoria's secret 32B, 34B. Oh and I should probably note that all of the measurements I mentioned where taken braless, lying flat on my back on full exhale.

First day wearing a new bra is always...interesting The band on my Cleo Meg is a touch smaller than I'm used to, but the support is great. The straps are also a bit thinner, so I'm adjusting to that too!

Yeah, it's always a bit special. Personally i cannot take even a perfect fitting bra in a whole day, but then I have a very bony ribcage... Baby steps, baby steps...
Updates? :) it looks amazing on you, thats all I can say :)

In 2005, I measured a 36C at Victoria's secret. I got pregnant, had a baby, and sized up to a 36D because I figured I had gone up a cup size. A few months ago, I went into VS expecting to reduce my cup size from 36D to 36C as my bras fit funny. That 36D just never looked quite ... right. I just figured I had deflated a few months after having a baby. I went in, and wanting to be sure of my size, I asked to be fitted. They measured me 36DD, which of course I thought was BS and thought this must be vanity sizing, because the bra appeared to fit, and no way was an average sized me big enough for a DD cup. I did a bit of research and that is how I found out that the fitters at VS don't know what they are doing. How do they get away with this? I had already spent a great deal on bras and at the time, the bands were firm and the cups fit well, and they were all worn so I couldn't return them. I vowed to keep them until I needed new bras, then I would start looking around for the proper fit.
I recently lost about 20 lbs and my stretched out VS bands were no longer fitting. Oddly enough, I don't think I lost much in the boob area, but one thing was for sure, those 36" bands were not going to work. I went to Macy's and tried on a few 34DDD bras in the store, and they were all funny looking. They made me flat and the cups looked like triangles that were too small. Unfortunately, there are no retailers within 180 miles of me that sells smaller bands with higher cup letters. It is a hassle to find a 34DDD here, so I am stuck trying to work off of my base measurements to figure out what sizes I should be ordering.
I ordered a Freya Deco in 34DDD, and that one too had me in pain in a very short time. You know, I am really questioning that whole "sister size" thing. Every time I try to follow that, it never works. I have no idea why it doesn't work for me. I am wondering if a 36DD is really the same as a 34DDD in cup volume. I then started ordering 34F. I purchased a Curvy Kate Tease Me and a Freya Taylor. They both seem to fit me okay, but I do notice that the bands ride up a bit. I bought a Harlequin Tiffany in 32FF which seems to fit okay, I guess I just kind of wish there was a bit more cup. The band is loose too. I then bought a 32G Freya Deco, because sister sizing doesn't work for me. But, this bra looks so huge (see my fitting help request) compared to the others I am not even sure what to think of it.

I would recommend getting a fitting at a boutique or a fine department store; Nordstrom does a great fitting. A sophisticated pair has a great online size calculator that can be a great starting point for you. Keep in mind that the fit of Curvy Kate bra and the fit of a Freya bra are different and you may need different sizes for each bra brand you may try
Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I live in California's Central Valley. All we have here are the usual retailers, such as Macys, J.C. Penney, VS, Kohls.... We do have a Nordstrom Rack, but it was an awful nightmare going in there, and they had nothing more than a stretched beyond recognition 34DDD. No Nordstrom or anything nice that I can find. I sure wish I could, because my life would be much easier. One day I will open up my own store, but until then I will have to wait until on a longer distance trip.

I *HATE* Cleo bands, and I can't stress this enough.
They are always too loose,
they strech out even more,
they have ONLY 2 ROWS OF HOOKS,
and they give even skinny ladies some back bulge!!! Dont't just take my word for it, check out the pictures.
And the lucy band... is by far the worst I've seen.
I think I speak ... for everywone when I say - We'd be willing to pay more money for that amazing Cleo shape WITH a propper snug, sturdy, back fat minimising band!!!
I actually wrote to Panache about this, and am starting to think we need an organised action to adress this issue.
Is anyone with me on this?

Hmm...interesting that you say this. I only own one Cleo, but the band is one full inch smaller than I'm used to wearing (Freya/Fantasie). The band also sits lower on my back, giving me less back bulge than my typical Freya bras.
My turquoise and coral George, my Sasha, my Chloe, my Molly, my Eleanor have all been among the tighter 28-bands I've tried. Yes, Bonnie and Lucy is definitly looser, but there is a whole bunch of tighter bands as well. :)
And these bras have not stretch much and the backs have not been cutting in. They might do on some, but on me they are great. :)
