• This doesn't sound crazy at all :) You're basically talking about discrepancies between horizontal and vertical dimensions of breasts and bra cups. Both are traditionally primarily defined by their horizontal dimensions -- width and depth -- assuming that the vertical ones follow logically from those as well. But that really isn't always the case: I, for example, need a vertical cup height/depth that is much less than my horizontal dimensions suggest. It's easy to mistake my breasts for 'shallow full-on-bottom', whilst a more accurate description would be 'conical short'. 'shallow' and 'conical' share some similar fitting issues, but FoB and 'short' are worlds apart.

  You have the opposite going on: you need a vertical cup height/depth that is much larger than you horizontal dimensions suggest.

  Anyway, bras are not designed for great vertical variation. It's all about the horizontal dimensions and the vertical ones are derived by a fixed ratio.

• Feels good to not be bashed! x) I was a little insecure before posting this, insecure about how people would react. You're totally right btw, bras are not designed for great vertical variation... Such a shame though, because it's hell trying to find a high impact sports bra for me :P I guess I'm pretty lucky compared to you though, a too tall cup will collapse (it can't hold onto you) and the fit won't be quite right. With my fit issues I still feel pretty supported because my boobs are not that big and they're almost self-supporting.

I know that this bra does acutally run tight in band and small in cups... (or that's at least what I got from reviews)
Calling all Royce Impact Free Sports Bra (S644) owners, what size do you need in Royce compared to your Panache / Cleo size?
Does one has to size up 1 cup and 1 band size? ... Or does one need to size up even more to get a decent fit? I don't want to buy the bra too small, since my beloved Enell is already too small on me too. I need a wireless bra that fits!

• I've only tried a 32K (my actual size) in the Impact Free, but from that I'd say at least a 34K would be a good idea. I never did try a bigger size, because I wanted it for exercising and it just wasn't supportive enough. I have a couple of Sadies for my wirefree needs, but they're in a 36K.

• Beware, the white one runs larger than the black and grey ones. 34K makes senses for you in the black or the grey, but I would stick to 32K in the white one.

• In all my research about implants I have never come across a reference about bra fit causing a rupture. That said, I can see where the idea comes from. Most ruptures are due to the slow wear of the implant rubbing on itself. The friction slowly causes the shell to wear down resulting in a leak. This leak can be a slow leak, or it can be a sudden rupture. The only way I really see this happening is if the bra wire is sitting on the implant itself in the sideboob or gore area. A cup that is too tight and causing quadboob shouldn't cause a problem, nor would a too loose band.

• thats the thought I got about CocoViolet 's post was that wires sidding on breat tissue at the side or wherever could possibly cause it.. thats what I took the comment to mean- but just my interpretation probably.

Update on Cleo SS13

I could use some advice on the new SS13 Cleo bras (which are now going on sale ) since I haven't tried one of them yet and it would help me to know how they compare to the AW12 and SS12 Cleos. I tried many of the old Cleos and some of them used to work ... better on me than others.
How do these SS13 Cleo bras compare to older models:

• I tried out the Melissa, and it fit me much like the red Marcie. I had a bit of internal quadding up the top in a 32J. It was probably wearable, but I knew it was there. It's definitely a bra which works better for a fuller on top shape. It's not insanely large like the Meg *sigh*. I haven't tried the blue Marcie. I'm now thinking that in Australia we must get all really old styles (or that's all they stock in super large sizes until they sell). I always knew we were a bit backward...

• My local bra shop has only just moved on from stocking only the dreaded Panache Tango Ii Balconette (3251) and its variants, bit there's still not much variety - anything you want, as long as it's made by Panache. Pretty sure Cleo Lucy (5851) is the only one of these they carry, and then only in the continuity colours.

  Tl;dr: Australia is a depressing bra desert.

• Well, this might be a bit late but in case anyone would be following this, I've added measurements for both now, you can find them at the 28J of the Curvy Kate Smoothie Moulded Bra (CK2401) . :) From what I can tell there are really three differences:

  * Raspberry (SS2013) has a much smaller band than black (AW2012).
  * The center gore of the raspberry one is slightly lower.
  * The shape is slightly more lifted and forward on the raspberry.

  The actual wire and cup depth are identical. This makes me believe that what they've really done is reworking the mould they use to make the cups.

• Curvy Kate Smoothie (CK1401) is available in 28GG in black. It definitely does not flatten! I too have wide, somewhat FOB breasts and got crazy lift and forward projection out of his bra. I found that it's more of the "green shape" so it's not super round, but not pointy at all either. It did move the girls a little more toward the center but not so much that I got no roundness to the side when looking straight on either. My breasts look so great in this bra, I just want to feel myself up all day! :)

• I think the conventional bra that fills those criteria for the lucky people in it's size range/that it works for is the Freya Deco (4234) and it's many siblings. Have you tried it?

• Go for it! It looks like the right construction and it seems to have wide wires, but the band might be loose. I think 36C might be a good size too because it stretches to 38 like your Ciao Bella.

Boux avenue and Mark and Spencer bras ?

Hi !

I am thinking about Boux avenue and M&S bras : they are fun, cheap and I think I can fit in the size range. But there is not a lot of these bras on bratabase, so it is hard to guess what can be my size.
Boux avenue's band seems to be super tight, and M&S on ... the tight side+small in the cups.
If you live in the UK near theses stores, or have tried theses brands, what do you think ?

I usually wear sizes 30DD, 30E, 32D and DD and prefer half cup styles with low gores, I have shallow breasts with a wide and tall base, close together in the middle. I am looking for something else than full bust brands (like cleo or curvy kate) because my breasts are not heavy and are firm, so I can wear low coverage and stretchy cheap underwires easily.

• Boux Avenue and M&S are definitely worth a try. They both have a reputation for running tight, although in my opinion M&S bands are probably tighter (at least in the Limited Collection styles you linked to, their other bras may fit differently). M&S Limited Collection bras also tend to have wide wires, especially the balconettes, and the cups are on the shallow side. I would recommend trying 32DD in M&S and probably the same size in Boux, although I'm not nearly as familiar with their bras.

• I've not tried boux avenue for bras but the quality on their knickers and pjs are lovely- plus they come beautifully packaged if you mail order. If the bras are good it really is a lovely brand that fills a gap in the market.

• The Liliana will probably come up small. The Confetti will likely fit too shallow since most people in your size range have a narrower and more projected breasts. I would try out the Boudoir Beau. The Darling Heart should be in a size up from your too small Alana style size.

• I'm going to throw in some bits about some of the bras that I tried myself:

  Panache Confetti is indeed very shallow. I once tried it in 28JJ and the cups were much too wide and shallow for me then. Also the band is quite loose imo.

  Panache Holly: I tried a Panache Anna Bikini (which is the same cut as Holly) and I wasn't impressed, cups material too stretchy, band, straps, too stretchy to give enought support.
  I recommend (if you really want t suppotive Bikini that does not give you neckpain) Curvy Kate padded Bikini tops. Beware SS12 models run about 1-2 cup sizes big compared to SS13 ones. Bands run tight.

  Bravissimo Broderie: I know it's dirt cheap - but I link my trial of 32JJ - Bravissimo » Broderie (PA04), the shape really wasn't that good :( On the other side: its made out of very comfy cotton-y material which is a plus.

  Bravissimo Boudoir Beau: make it top of your list!
  It does actually allow more volume on top compared to Alana and it's twins. Also it's beautiful and very supportive and gives a decent shape!

  Have you thought about trying Cleo bras in 28J? Panache Ariza? *just saying*

Shallow Compared to WHAT?

I wear a 28H. We frequently talk about how shallow shapes become "less frequent" in larger cup sizes. We talk about how shallow breasts are "most common" below a FF cup or so, yet supposedly it is "still possible" to be shallow in larger sizes.

I've never really considered myself to be shallow. My most frequent problems with bras ... are too wide wires and insufficient projection. I rarely run into too narrow wires, and have NEVER experienced empty space at the ends of my cups, even when I try cup sizes that are clearly too big - these are classic hallmarks of a projected, non-shallow shape.

Yet, I have breast tissue all the way up to my collarbones and extending partway into my armpit. I look slightly less busty than some other women with similar measurements, especially when braless. When standing braless, it appears there is a whole hands width without tissue between my breasts, but when gathered into a bra, my breasts suddenly behave as though they are very close set. Maybe I am shallow after all?

In smaller sizes, there's a meaningful distinction to be made between shallow breasts and more concentrated, projected ones. A shallow 30E can look completely flat chested, while a projected, non-shallow 30DD can look quite busty. These shapes also require significantly different bras - shallow-breasted ladies often find bras have too much space on the end, but wires are too small, and vice versa. In larger sizes, even if some breast tissue is spread over the ribcage, most of the breast projects outwards. Bras for larger sizes on small bands are almost invariably comically oversized width-wise, so even ladies with tissue in their armpits find most bras too wide.

I have concluded that perhaps I do in fact have a shallow shape - though not compared to the unrealistically shallow bras available in my size - even "narrow wired" Polish bras wrap past the end of my tissue and don't offer enough projection. However, compared to other women in a similar size range, I am shallow. It's a sad statement about bra manufacturing in the small band-large cup demographic when even a proportionally shallow shape has trouble finding bras with enough projection and narrow enough wires.

• I think (and I could be wrong) that in our size range it becomes more accurate to talk about pendulous vs self-supporting than projected vs shallow. But to answer the question you actually asked - shallow compared to me, probably ;-) I have next to no root, tennis ball in a sock boobs.

• To me it sounds like what I would call a "tall root" :) Boobs can be shallow in more than one direction :)

• My experience with Ariza was that in order to get enough depth for my breasts, I had to size up so much that the wires were then too wide for me. That Ariza does look super-wide on you, but it is I think one of those bras that gets really wide in high sizes.

  The Deco is not as wide and looks like a better width for you. Juna looks a little wide but also better than the Ariza in my opinion. What is it that makes you think these are too small in the cup?

  If anything they both look a little wide, but I can't really see where your breast tissue ends. The Deco's straps are far apart but I think the cup looks good.

• rockthecurves - the Juna is a tricky bra. If the lace on it lies flat, it's actually concealing quadboob and the bra is too small. I only know this from seeing a lot of different people try on Junas in different sizes, you couldn't naturally tell this.
