I bought another bra before I went to Vegas but I didn't get it until after I got back. I bought Wacoal 's @ Instant Polish Convertible bra in 34H. This bra is soft and smooth inside the cups and outside. The straps are perfect when using as criss cross, they function like @Chantelle's C Chic. This bra ... is awesome in fit and its comfortable. Gore tacks, cups are good and band is snug on the loosest setting, and the straps are long for those ladies that need extra cinching. I'm giving this bra 5 star's.
@Chantelle's Pure is the same size cup as @Wacoal, and the @ C Chic is just a little smaller, but the @ Chantelle's are both G- that's what the bra tag says.
I'm using @HerRoom's details for a good description of the bra

I think bra sizing should be more like the sizing of jeans. When we buy jeans, we choose the length and width independently. In the same way I'd like to see the cup sizes defined unrelated to the band size. We don't measure the length of our legs to get a letter for the relative width for our jeans. Sure, ... jeans sizing can be inconsistent too, but that's because the system is used wrong and not because the system is flawed.
What would be the best way to measure the size of a bra cup? Is it the volume, the width of the wire combined with the depth, or something else? How do you personally determine how a bra will fit before it's in your hands? (I don't know yet because I don't have a perfect bra.)
Much of it depends on the model of course. And we need manufacturers and retailers to describe the cuts of bras better. Much too often the full description is "Pretty bra with a great fit." For whom? I wish they would all come here so that I could search the stores for infinity bras. How can we make that happen?

short/narrow, short/medium, short/wide
medium height/narrow medium height/medium width and then med./wide width.
Long or tall/narrow width, long/med width. long/wide width.
and the depth or projection of the cups would be 1for A 2 for B 3 for C 4 for D 5 for DD
6 for e and so on. But each cup would have their own height and width measures combined with the cup sizes. Also bands would come in odd and even sizes both. and half sizes too like a 26.5 short/med. 7. would be like an F cup for 26.5 ribcage and someone who has short boobs with med. width. included in the F cup projection or depth in the cup.
I think companies should just list the wire diameters when they sell a bra. Obviously when you by in a store you can try it on, but since so much shopping is done online that's not an option. More than anything, standardization between brands would help a lot. If they could just give me a standardized band length, cup volume, and wire size I wouldn't have to return so many. That's 90% of what I spend time here doing--trying to convert one brand's size to another's.

A week ago today I made my 1st and maybe last mail order bra purchase. 7 days ago I sent a money order for $38.55 from where I live in California to @ aBra4Me in Clarkston Michigan by US mail for a long lusted over@ Goddess "Banded Rose bra (6080).
I ... would have bought one over a year ago but I can't find any place in my area that sells@ Goddess. So when I saw a (6080) at 20% off, in my size on @ aBra4Me.com I broke down and ordered it by mail order. ( I like to be able to hold what I might buy before I buy it, and sending checks or cash is too risky) by money order which I thought was pretty safe to send by mail.( I have no credit card or PayPal account)
So today I get a email from @aBra4Me asking if I sent them the $38.55 yet because they haven't recieved it and wondered what's the hold up. So now it seems my $38.55 is lost and may never turn up. I have the purchasers copy so it should be no problem you would think. But what it tells me is , I would have to send them a $18.00 fee that is non-refundable and must wait 2 months before I can even send that in for a new money order for $38.55 to be re-issued. So now my 20% off ends up being a $56.55 bra (over plus 20% more) and I have to wait 2 months to re-order and it probably will be sold out of my size by then or something stupid.

If you have a bank account, PayPal is free to use to send money. Obviously it might not be right for you, but I feel it is MUCH more secure than sending payments through the mail. PayPal has a buyer protection policy and everything, meaning that if someone didn't send you your item, you could potentially get your money back. It's also a ton faster because you don't have to wait for the vendor to receive your payment. Just something to think about. :)
@shayelea , Great advice but unfortunately I don't have a bank account .I had to close it a while back because of these new service charges they inflicted on me I couldn't afford . So I closed it. :( Money sucks!

I don't know much about fitting bras on mtf women or larger band sizes, but if you posted measurements it would definitely help those more knowledgeable than me fit you! Could you measure your underbust comfortably snug, then as tight as you can pull the measuring tape, and your bust (at the largest point) with the tape fairly loose, and then again bending over at a 90 degree angle? Here's a quickie all-in-one guide: http://imgur.com/7Ss1170
Thank you Allifrack, I will take these measurements and repost.

Last week I went to the stores in my town to see if there perhaps were some bras now in smaller back and larger cup sizes (I noticed that over the years they at least started shifting from a-c, to a-d and a-e for backsize 70, which I wore at the time). In fact I did find some brands that ... go up to F cups now, but others apparently chose to quit making cup sizes larger than F. Back size 70 still was the smallest they had (which leaves me a bit puzzled, because I could swear I had seen a 65F in that same store before). So the net result was.... not entirely satisfying .
This was not the primary reason for writing this down though. The reason why I felt like sharing this experience is because this time I was not stared at in disbelief when I requested my size, and that the people in the stores were actually trying to help me find the right bra That is nice for a change! Before, almost no-one around me was capable of comprehending the mere existence of sizes like 60GG. Well, perhaps only if I had looked like a porn star.

Oh, I once ran into a 65D in the Hunkemoller. One. Once. It looked lost.
Ahw.. the poor thing!
But does it mean they actually did try to get a broader range? I do wonder. Sometimes I am so paranoid that I'm thinking they don't want us to wear the right sizes because it's more trouble for the companies.

About five years ago, my boyfriend and I lived with his mother for a year before we got our own place, and we had a washer and dryer in the basement. I put a load of laundry in to wash that included a couple of bras. (I know now that it's not the best way to wash bras.) I guess ... I didn't remove my laundry from the washer quickly enough to satify her, and she dumped the whole thing in the dryer.
Now, even though at the time I would wash my bras in the washing machine, I ALWAYS hung them to dry. My mom told me as soon as I started wearing bras that I should never put them in the dryer, and I never have.
When I went into the basement to switch my laundry from one machine to the other and found out that everything had been thrown into the dryer, I was livid. One, I don't like people touching my things, and two, bras are expensive! Why would you EVER put one in a dryer? My favourite black Maidenform Custom Lift Tailored T-shirt Bra (9729) was destroyed. Somehow, the hooked side of the bra had been MELTED in the dryer. It was beyond repair and there was nothing I could do about it, since the fabric was a bunch of slag and even I can't fix that. After that fiasco, I always made sure that no one touched my laundry - especially my bras - but I.

I see you took my number one tip. http://www.bratabase.com/profile/87f/adventures/2228/
;)
I always hand wash in my bathtub in a bucket and always lay flat on a towel to dry. If you are going to pay for a bra I think that is the best way to take care of them. I don't even hang them anymore. Lay flat on a towel. I am sorry for your loss also.

So, yesterday my family got back from camp, and I had all my worn (but still wearable again) clothing in one bag, including my bras. As soon as we get home, my mom started doing laundry, and assumed that bag was my dirty clothing. NOW DON'T GET FREAKED OUT SHE DIDN'T WASH MY BRAS IN THE WASHER OR ... DRYER OR ANYTHING. But she did empty the bag out by the washer along with everyone else's dirty clothes, and leave it there overnight. This is how the conversation went:
*Mom* Is this bag your dirty clothes?
*Me lying on the couch half-asleep* No mom..
*Mom* Okay I'll just wash them.
*Me* No mom.. I'll do my own laundry..
*Mom* Is it okay if I wash it with your dad's stuff? (It would have been nice if she had told me that this included his dirty socks and underwear at this point...)
*Me* NO MOM I'LL WASH IT THANKS
*Mom* Okay I'll just leave it by the washer for you
*Me.... Falls asleep*
SO imagine my surprise when I wake up in the morning and go to find a bra to wear, only to find that they had all been dumped out with everyone else's clothes. I salvaged everything, as they were on the top, except for my nude Juna bra. IT WAS LAYING ON TOP OF A PILE OF STINKY SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR, PEOPLE! It smelled like someone had stuck the bra into their 20 year old sweaty running shoes that they wear EVERY DAY and ran with the bra in their shoes. Forever. I immediately proceeded to handwash it, and handwash it, and handwash it, and handwash it... and I got most of the smell out. But now it smells like corn chips. The feet kind. Like when you wear a brand new pair of sneakers for a few days, and they start to smell like stinky feet, but not quite... so they smell like corn chips instead. MY POOR JUNA!
Now, people. We can learn some very important life lessons from this story.
1) DO YOUR OWN LAUNDRY
2) BE SUSPICIOUS IF I EVER LIST A NUDE JUNA
3) DON'T EVER EAT CORN CHIPS AGAIN.
Just thought that was something you all would need to know. (:

When I was at Dillard's a teenage girl was getting a fitting, I was excited that whoever took her to get the fitting knew she needed be fitted in the correct size bra. The sales person was teaching her about cups that don't fit and boob quad.
I have not been lingerie shopping when a teen gets a bra fitting, but I was glad she was. She's learning about correct bra fit now, better than learn 10 or 20 yrs down the road.

Living near a major metropolitan area (Chicago) has its perks. One of them is the ability to go to stores to try on bras in my size. My current posting is about two different options in the western suburbs.
Middle age is more than a sea of beige...

Thanks for posting, this is great info! Another great option (& more affordable!) in the western burbs if you already know your size or want to try on a bunch of bras to figure it out, Nordstrom Rack has a pretty good selection of Freyas, Panache, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, and other brands for under 10 bucks :-) Schaumburg Rack's selection is WAYYYYY better than Oak Brook. Be prepared to spend some time digging for your size, they aren't always sorted into the right place on the rack.
I contemplated getting a proper fitting and trying on some different styles at Elegance Underneath in Naperville, since I was tired of ordering and returning bras online and they claim to have a wide range. Thankfully, I called first and saved myself the trip after being told they don't really stock anything in a 28 band. They said they could possibly order bras in that size, but that kinda defeated the purpose of being able to physically try something on and save time and hassle of ordering online. I won't bother going for a fitting, since I 'm worried they would try to fit me into a 30 band since that's what they have in store.
So sadly, online ordering seems to be my best option still for bras in a 28 band, as the Nordstrom selection is extremely limited. If anyone knows of a brick & mortar store in the Chicago area has a wider range, please share, I'd love to know! :-)
I want to know this too! We have a few specialty fitting places in my region (Central IL) but none of them carry 28 bands :( If a place in Chicago could, I'd hit up that place and then spend all my money there and at REI.

My bras that I ordered to try came in (except it seems the Jasmine got held up). So today, I tried out Panache Loretta Balcony (6681) and Panache Fern (6291) in 30K.
Both were quite wide, but thankfully shorter under the arms than some styles I've tried. Loretta has some of the widest-set straps I've ... seen! They just wanted to spring off my shoulders. Fern is so cute! I tried it out in the Paisley colourway, which had purple Paisley print. That's the kind of bra styling I rather like. It's fun, but still kind of sophisticated in a kitschy way (I don't know if that would make sense to anyone else). Sadly, Fern was too small for me, the top where the lace joined the fabric cut in, even when I scooped away from the gore (which I've been doing lately, scooping inwards, and then outwards again to direct my breasts towards the apex of the bra cup). Loretta was just the wrong shape. The cups are definitely narrower than some other Panache styles, but the strap placement and cup design just wasn't quite right.
So I still have miss Jasmine coming, which I am a little hopeful for because of the stretch lace. 30K in Panache is definitely too small for me now in the middle in unstretchy styles, but I do know that Jasmine has a bit of extra room in the top middle. Besides, the champagne pink looks like it may even be low-key enough to wear under a variety of colours. Branarchist - what would you say having seen it in person?
The staff are lovely though! They're going to write to Panache as a retailer and say that their bras don't work very well in small bands & large cups. They're also racking their brains for other stuff which I can try out.
Seriously, right now I just feel like buying some 28GG Freya Decos and running the risk of falling out of my bra all the time. I'm a bit frustrated with this whole thing. I get stuff which fits mostly okay, and then I grow and I'm back at square one again.

Did you take pictures of Fern and Loretta? I remember having those weird "cutting in" issue with Fern and the lace sticking out. It is modelled after a Tango therefore tighter around the top. I've been always curious about Loretta but there are hardly any reviews, so I never tried it. Super wide-set straps, sounds bad!
"I'm a bit frustrated with this whole thing. I get stuff which fits mostly okay, and then I grow and I'm back at square one again."
Oh I so can relate. *hugs* It's the story of my bra life.
*hugs back*
Seriously, my breasts show no sign of letting up. I don't mind large breasts, but constantly having to buy new bras is crazy frustrating as you'd know.
I didn't think to take any pictures. I may see if I can do that next time. I'm not sure how they'd feel about it at the shop though.
Loretta reminded me a bit of Ariza, and a bit of Andorra. It's got the slightly pointy Andorra look, but I also felt it was like the Ariza in overall shape. It had some of the same fit weirdness I had in Ariza. Other than the super wide straps thing, I think it's much more likely to work on you than me. I don't mean that it will work, but it could be worth a go for you in 32K/34JJ (the band is fairly snug)
I didn't realise I wanted a paisley bra until I saw the Fern, but it's so cute! It must be a bit better for fuller on bottom shapes like the Tango I guess.

I wear a 30H in panache Sports, Fern, Cleo Zia, and Freya bras. I have a Cleo Meg in 30GG. Comexim fits best in 60L.
I have tried a 28GG Deco, which was too small, both in the back and the cups (i think the back might have been because of how small the cups were)
I tried a 30G Deco, which was too small in the cups and felt ok in the back, a little bit big.
Should i try a 30GG or should i accept that the Deco and I are not meant to be friends?

cbear i tend to need a 30H in the majority of brands, and I found the 30GG deco to be way too small in the cups. I tend to wear a 32GG in the deco- yes the band is too big but the shape under clothes is second to none.
If you want mega cleavage with a bra that could possibly be too small, you should Deco. It's a matter of personal preference :)

I am laughing my ass off about the terror of this bra I just got from alisa. I couldn't even stand it on one minute, even putting it on was painful.
Too tight band for breathing (the horror thick band right in my heartburn center !) and since my boobs are already pancakes ... I didn't even get flat boobs
So while I got a compressed stomach my boobs wasn't that happy
That underbust band is so tall and thick I nearly want to throw up
I should have seen it. I mean I do know I cannot wear thick bands in my underbust, but I was blinded by the reviews.
Oh well, I did at least get a laugh.

Anyone know of a strapless/convertible bra in a plunge style? Freya Decos work well for me, but the strapless/convertible version has a high gore (higher than I would like).
Any suggestions?

Some plunge models that spring to mind:
Panache Zara (5086)
Curvy Kate Desire (SG1801)
Freya Deco Shape Moulded Multiway Bra (1464)
(...which reminds me that I need to finish my blog post on convertible/multiway bra!)
Also, this is a feature on some of Gossard's Superboost range.

I want to keep track of how my chest changes as I'm using better bras. This is the second post.
I can't wear my old bras anymore. They're uncomfortable of course, but I used to be able to wear them all day and now it hurts so. much. after a few hours. It seems that my boobs are getting more projected ... and narrow. I'm happy with this as it will probably make them easier to fit. Interestingly enough, my best fitting bra doesn't fit as well anymore, it seems too wide, so the boobs haven't adjusted to that one. Maybe it's one of the others or maybe they're coming back to a "normal" shape. It would make sense because they used to hurt in the sides and I would feel compelled to push them forward at the sides. There's a lot less of that now.
I've measured my over bust 2-3% bigger than normal. The perimeter is the same. I think that indicates all of the above, but I'd like to repeat it later on before making that conclusion.
With the narrower roots I might actually need smaller cups than I initially thought, but that remains to be seen. I have also noticed my tissue in the outer upper quadrants is getting firmer. I'm becoming more sensitive to gores cutting into my close set boobs. My inner lower and/or upper quadrant must be getting fuller. Makes sense if they're in a sense being pushed together.

Your root is getting narrower? That's amazing. I had no idea that was possible! :-)
I have noticed many changes since I've been wearing bras that fit that also have good shape and support. It blows my mind, to tell you the truth.
I'm still getting used to this whole idea. I figured I would find the right size, bras that suited my shape, and be finished with the whole subject for the rest of my days. Turns out it's way more complicated than I thought, and way more interesting. I love learning about all this!
Yeah, I don't know what to think. Maybe it's not so much the root getting narrower as it is the tissue around it that has moved? Makes me wonder what really defines the root. Anyway, I like the change!

How do you fellow girls wash your bras?
I am super careful of my Jasmines, so I really always handwash them. Try to do it after each wear, sometimes it's two wears (with several days between wears of course).
But then the question arises... where to wash? The sink isn't quite big enough to fit multiple bras. Diagonally one bra can be ... washed, then move on to the next bra... but it's not perfect.
So I have moved to the bathtub now. Yay for space to throw in all 6 Jasmines, keep the water running and rinse them under the running water!
Last part though... drying. I try to squeeze the bras as little as possible to avoid any problems from that. Which means that when I hang them out by the straps, they are dripping like crazy... and that's not good for the carpet!
Solution: I invented the "bra tree" (see pic)! Yay for coat hangers over the bathtub! They only really need to hang here for a few hours, just until they've stopped dripping and then they can be moved elsewhere to finish drying completely if needed.
How do you wash&dry your bras?

I use a big plastic container, the ones you get salad mixes in.lol.I may use the bathtub once I have more bras.
I often use a towel to help dry them out a bit and then hang or put the towel over my heater and then the bra so it will dry faster if I'm in a hurry.
Hand wash program in the washing machine.
