    Didn't fit

I picked up Hettie last summer when I didn't have a very clear understanding of different Cleo shapes or fits by breast shape, so I was surprised to find at the time that it fit me so weirdly. At 28DD, Hettie was just too big all around--big in the band to the point of riding up, and big in the cups, which I could only fill out at the bottom while the top cup laid baggily across my chest. I have tried to revisit this fit several times since I now measure 28E, but still find that it doesn't work for me.

I also picked a 30D ... Kayla back out of my drawer, and found that both Hettie and Kayla still gave me the same fit issues even though I am a cup size larger. After discovering that they are sister cuts, it all makes sense! Both styles are designed for projected FOT shapes and have the ability to accommodate tall roots thanks to the stretch upper cups. Other shapes will find it difficult to fill out the top of the cup, and lack of upper fullness will either show totally baggy wrinkly lace or lace that doesn't quite lay flat when you move. This particular Hettie compared to my Kayla is slightly shallower in the cup and slightly narrower as well, so I am closer to fitting this bra now, but the upper cup lace just won't stay in place on me. The band on this specific bra is also really huge, and is probably one of the longest Cleo bands that I have ever come across. It's easily a normal 32 band masquerading as a 30!

The fabrication of Hettie is totally different from Kayla, and is rather unique compared to other Cleo bras in my collection. The outer cup is made from stretch mesh with an open dot pattern, reminiscent of athletic mesh, lined with rigid tricot. The lace at the upper cup is exactly the same quality as Kayla but a different pattern. The band is a solid stretch knit, though it's on the thin side. Straps are simply ribbed for stability, and the only adornment is a center gore bow. Overall, the fabric on Hettie is really soft and feels like this could be a comfortable, lightweight bra if it fit.

I'm glad that I tried this bra on again, and thanks to my new Commando Takeouts, it was easy to diagnose that this wouldn't fit me even if I had the correct size! I'll be passing on the 28E and any other related Hettie cuts unless I magically develop a huge boost in upper fullness.

    Didn't fit

Recently I've been thinking about trying Kayla in my current size of 28E since many of the older Cleo styles are no longer easily found in my size. However, I was digging through my drawer when I discovered this Kayla in Butterfly Print that I had completely forgotten about. It had been sitting in a pile of bras that didn't work for me, so I guess out of sight, out of mind. I pulled this back out to check and see if it might fit me better now that I measure 28E instead of 28DD, and realized that I had never written a review!

At 28DD, ... this definitely didn't fit me. The band is too big, to the point of riding up slightly. The cups compared to my 30D Marcie are half a size deeper and wider. The wires were a good size and shape for me, but I could only fill out the bottom of the cup and the lace top was pretty empty. At 28E, the lace at the top is still baggy, though I obviously fill out the cups better. I found that inserts worked best at the top of the cup, so this style is meant for projected FOT shapes and has the ability to accommodate tall roots thanks to the stretch cups. Other shapes will find it difficult to fill out the top of the cup, and lack of upper fullness will either show totally baggy wrinkly lace or lace that doesn't quite lay flat when you move.

In hindsight, it's no surprise that this didn't work for me regardless of size, because this is the same cut as Hettie, which gives me the exact same fit problems. Both styles seem to run large in both band and cup, and are suitable for projected FOT shapes.

Kayla also bears a strong resemblance to Minnie upon first glance, since both cups are made from silky printed fabric and have a lace upper cup. However, Minnie has a closed off top and the cup runs smaller, and would work best for short roots and even fullness with more projection than Marcie. Kayla's cups are also thinner and softer, since the fabric is single layer (like Fantasie bras made from the same silky fabric), and the upper cup is made from very soft stretch lace and cut wider than most Cleo styles. The print extends through the cradle, but the band is the same firm powermesh used on most Cleo bras. I don't love that the straps are plain elastic with no texture, as I don't think it really goes with the style, and because smooth straps slip more easily. The only other adornments on this bra are a center gore bow and a bit of contrast picot trim at the bottom of the band.

    28DD

    Fits

Bonnie is an interesting style. I picked this up because I was able to find my preferred size of 28DD in this style, and it is supposed to share the same cut as Lucy. Now, I've tried Lucy in various sizes (28D, 30D, 30DD) and haven't found my perfect fit, but I thought maybe 28DD was the perfect one. However, this isn't it either.

The styling of this bra is quite busy, with orange and white daisies embroidered on the mesh cups. The upper cup is heavily embroidered in white, orange, and lime green geometric mandalas. It reminds me of a sari I once ... wore to an Indian wedding, which is not a bad thing. More is more is the look here, and this is probably the most heavily embellished bra I own. Other than the embroidery, the straps and wings are kept a clean solid pink.

Now I don't have the 28DD Lucy on hand to compare, but the cups of the 30D Lucy definitely differ from this Bonnie. The lower cup is more projected on my Bonnie, and the upper cup is definitely taller. 30D Lucy feels too small in the lower cup for me, but I couldn't fill out the top of the 30DD although the lower cup was a great fit. Bonnie was a similar problem, where the bottom cup fits well, but I don't have enough upper fullness to fill out the lace portion. The additional cup height compared to 30D Lucy doesn't help either, so the top of the cup hits me where I am very shallow.

I think I can easily tuck the lace portion in and tailor the cups to fit, so all is not lost. The band is suitably snug, almost to the point of being too tight, but I didn't notice any distortion or digging in from the underwires.

So, compared to Lucy, the bottom cup is bigger/taller, and the upper cup is bigger/taller. The underwire shape was the same. If Lucy works for you and you can fill a taller cup with more coverage, this would work. However if you have problems filling the upper cup in Lucy, the issue will be exaggerated here. Part of this is comparing the 28DD to 30D as I know the proportions are a little different, but I do believe that there is enough difference between the two bras that you could notice the difference in fit across the same size.

    ============

    28E update:

In my current size, I fill out these cups much better, but the seam between the upper and lower cups is a bit wrinkly. At first I assumed this was due to sewing and the thickness of the embroidery, but I tried this with inserts at the center of the cup, and the wrinkles disappear. Thus, this is suitable for even shapes with a bit more projection than I have. The cup seems to run a size large as you need a really snug fit to get a smooth look from this thick fabric--plus, I wear Lucy in 28E and it fits well with no wrinkles.

Regarding my original comment about the band feeling tight--I think that initially I was just not used to 28 bands, since my underbust measurement hasn't changed, but the band doesn't bother me anymore. A good reminder to step down gradually as you are going down to your true band size!

I think the cut of this bra is weird. Normally the cup width of 14.5 cm will be perfect for me, but for this bra there is empty fabric at side. My right boob is a little bit smaller so the problem is quite obvious there. Will ask for a fitting help.

Besides, the material of this bra is very comfortable. The band is slightly looser and more stretchy than other 32-bands.

Based off the measurements I had hoped this bra would fit, but unfortunately it gives me quad-boob. The center gore bends my breasts strangely but I'm not sure if it'd because it's too wide or because it's too tall. I think the cup is too short as well. Unfortunate because it's really comfortable and cute!

This is my favorite bra for fit, except.... With Cleo’s, you really need to size up one band size or use expanders. When sizing up or using an expander, it then move the straps out to an uncomfortable width. The 36 futs me best everywhere except in the actual band size. So, I wish all other measurements (cup depth, height, center gore, etc) stayed the same but the band was lengthened. Cleo’s don’t seem to fit the same as Panaches’s. I prefer the unlined cups and they are quite comfortable, no itchy or scratchy after the first couple washes. I am so sad that this bra is now discontinued and purchased it in every sister size I could lay my hand on in late 2018.

    *MY INFO* Mar 13, 2020
    - 32FF/G(recommended by abrathatfits calculator)
    - narrow root
    - projected
    - slightly full on top
    - center fullness

    *REVIEW*
    - BAND: It stretchs moderately and fits comfortably. Gently stretch well. The previously bought bras at Curvy Kate(same band sizes) were hard and poorly stretched. Compare to those, it's as elastic as hair tie. The hook in the middle was most comfortable. So far I have worn almost 75(34 in UK) to 80(36 in UK) sizes in Asian sizes and they are always too big for me. 32 size is my best size I think.

    - CUP: It has vertical seam, so it's good for full on top and best shape for ... me. Sadly, cup size is too small and it makes quad boobs. But I'm on a diet and maybe later it will fit me. I'll just keep this until then.

    - DESIGN: basic bra of nude tone. There is a cute race at the top of the cup. I like the design but there's only two hooks, it would have been better if there were three hooks.

This seems to have a smaller band than others I've purchased in the same size. If I were to buy it again I would have gone up a band size. Boning along the wings prevents this long line from rolling up like others do.

A technical fit in all aspects except I can't with this gore. There's a measure of irony in regards to me never understanding the desire to rip off an uncomfortable bra when I wore ill-fitting Wal-Mart crap, and yet a properly sized one forced my hand. Probably shopping for extenders this weekend.

EDIT 2020/2/18: I have no clue what happened but we’re A-OK now. Maybe I broke it in or maybe I’m just smaller in the ribcage today. Either way, with the gore issue out of the way, the only thing left is slight wrinkling in my smaller side, and that I can deal with painlessly. A good thing too, because the extenders I got from Target have hooks further apart than Hettie’s hooks, and I didn’t want to risk an extender tearing her up.

Can’t tell much because the band was way too tight. When I first looked at it I thought they sent a 32F by mistake, but no 36F it is. Cups might be a touch small but next size up probably too big. Straps are skinny and rub on sides of my arms. Just not a good match for me I guess.

The Hettie feels nice and light; the cups have a soft, thin, and smooth lining and this same fabric comprises the band material. The cups and wings are covered with a fine mesh-like material with tiny holes in it. The lace at the tops of the cups seems flimsy and a little cheap to me - I'd need to be careful adjusting it to avoid putting my finger through it. Straps are ribbed and stretchy. I think they would be better if they were a little wider, say 3/4 inch instead of 1/2 inch, but I like wider straps in general. I have to adjust them almost to ... their full length and they feel too tight.

The bra has quite good center projection and fairly good immediate projection at the wire, although for me the wire is still about 1/8 inch under my IMF. I don't think this would be a deal-breaker if the cups fit well otherwise, but it might get a little uncomfortable after several hours of wear. I can't fill out the cups at the top or at the center, so they are clearly too large. However, the wire fits well on the sides and encloses my breast tissue comfortably; it feels very secure but doesn't poke into my armpit, so I think the wire length is probably right.

I like the shape that the Hettie gives me, but some may feel that it's too pointy. With the flimsy lace at the tops of the cups, I think there will be some jiggle. As for the gore, I have very close-set breasts so just about any gore bothers me. It's not actually sitting on breast tissue, but poking into it slightly. If this bra was available as a plunge, the shorter gore would be preferable.

As for the color, I'm not a fan of white bras unless they are very lacy and decorative, and the Hettie in the white colorway is rather plain.-looking But this was the only color available in my size at herroom and I wanted to try it for size. The 32E I tried in purple was too small in the cups, and this 32FF is too big...so hopefully the 32F that I'm trying next will be the charm!

About me: close set, center full, tall, sloping roots, full on bottom (though combined functionally even in some respects), narrow and projected.

Not nearly enough projection at the wire and cups are too wide for me. Straps also cut in at front of my chest.

    Fits

Finally, I've found the Lucy that fits! This is one of those styles I've tried in tons of different sizes (28D, 30D, 30DD), but nothing has been quite right. Now that I'm a cup size bigger, I've finally come across the size that fits properly.

Having tried Lucy in the 30 bands, I knew that the 30 was a bit too big for me and would ideally need a 28. Unfortunately since this style is discontinued, I couldn't find a 28DD for the longest time. The 28D cups are far too small for me, even when I was a cup size smaller. The 30D ... cups always felt too small, and the 30DD cups felt much better.

Thus, it's no surprise that this ended up working best for me in 28E! The 28E gives me the snug band fit and larger cups I need, and even on my smaller side, it looks much better than the other sizes did. I always struggled with Marcie and Lucy cups in 30D feeling too small, but in the past I was too small for the 28E as I was between sizes. Now, this size provides adequate coverage as well as wires that are wide enough and sit properly. I've noticed recently that I really need more wire coverage under the arms than I was previously used to in order to keep all the breast tissue contained.

Now that I have a Lucy that fits properly, I think this style is slightly better suited to my shape than Marcie. I think I am pretty evenly distributed so the FoT/FoB cuts don't make much of a difference, but visually I think Lucy's proportions are better suited for me. So happy to finally find the right fit in this style!

  15. Lucy Balconnet Bra (5851)

I repurchased the Lucy in 30D from a different batch because I was so unhappy with the fit of my first 30D Lucy. While the two bras are very close in measurement (new Lucy is slightly narrower and shorter in the cup, same projection), I think the balance of the fit is a little different. With original Lucy, the cups didn't feel secure, and I had a lot of gapping at the top on my smaller side. In new Lucy, the cups fit snugly, just like my Curvy Kate Blush Florence, and the band feels fine even though it measures larger. So, despite my ... original proclamation that Lucy just doesn't work for me, I think I just got a wonky bra to start.

After trying on literally dozens of bra styles, I've found that one of my favorite silhouettes for everyday wear is the lightweight unlined mesh balconnette bra with nonstretch upper cup, like the Cleo Marcie, Curvy Kate Florence, and now Cleo Lucy. Lucy has the same soft lightweight mesh that I find perfect for everyday, with the right amount of support and comfort. Lucy's cups have small floral embroidery on the outer layer of the double lined cups, while the upper cup has a larger version of the same daisies. The upper panel is nonstretch embroidered mesh, which has enough give to be flexible in fit and sit flat against the body, without having the closed off effect of elastic top or stretch lace cups.

I also like the simple ribbon bow and simple wide straps on this style. The only construction aspect that make this not the perfect bra for me is that I really prefer a full band style, and Lucy doesn't have a full band. Sometimes I feel the cups slide around on me. This is exacerbated by the fact that the band is not quite as snug as I am used to from some other Cleo 30D styles, and wish I could've gotten this in a 28DD (I have the 28D and the band feels better, but the cups are obviously too small). I've also found from trying on 4 Lucys and 4 Marcies that Marcie is a little more forgiving in fit, while Lucy tends to give me fit problems unless the bra's measurements happen to be spot on for me. Lastly, I wish that the cups were just a little taller overall, as I find that these cups visually look a bit small on me due to the low cup height and immediate projection. Still, I am happy to finally have found a Lucy that fits!

Kali was a tough one to get my hands on in my size (Amazon doesn't carry this in a 30D for some reason), but I was able to hunt one down and snag one from eBay thanks to the prolific UK lingerie resellers on that platform. I was thrilled to find that Kali fits the way I wanted Lucy to fit and looks adorable to boot!

First, I got really lucky, and my Kali came with a very small band, over 1.5" smaller than my Lucy in the same size. One issue I've always had in Lucy is that the band is too loose, and since it ... is not a full band construction, the cradle of the bra never felt like it sat securely, yet I have been unable to find a 28DD to size down to since the style is now discontinued. The band on this bra feels awesome. It's the same kind of powermesh as Lucy and Marcie, with nice firm elastic.

The cups though are the most important part of the Kali fit for me, as they addressed the problem I had with Lucy--cups that are too shallow and short. Kali has slightly deeper and taller cups than Lucy, and comparing the two bras in person, it's obvious that the two styles share the same shape, but both the bottom and upper lace cups are cut a little taller in Kali. Thus, the fit of Kali is a lot closer to the Marcie cup, which fits me perfectly. Since this bra shares the same cup construction as Lucy and Marcie with double layered mesh bottom panels and an embroidered mesh upper panel, I had no issues with gapping or wrinkling in the upper cup like I sometimes do with other Cleo 3 piece cup styles. Overall, the fit of the cups is amazing! The only thing I noticed is that on this particular bra, the right cup fits me a little oddly. This is pretty normal since my right side is almost a cup size less projected than the left, but I also noticed that the seam between the upper and lower cups is a little uneven on the right side, so this may be more of a sewing issue.

Aesthetically, this bra is super cute. I was drawn to the heart embroidery right away, and knew that I wanted to hunt this one down. I am pleased that the heart embroidery is as cute in person as it appeared online, and the small embroidered flowers on the lower cup in Lucy have been replaced with more hearts on Kali. There's also a cute little bow at the center gore and tonal picot edged elastic on the straps and lower band to up the frill factor, but these details are subtle and tasteful. So glad that this didn't turn looking like Frederick's of Hollywood!

Once again, Cleo unlined bras have turned out another winner for me. Now, if only so many of these styles weren't discontinued and were easier to find!

28E Revised Comments: Due to an increase in cup size measurement, this bra is now obviously one cup size too small. I can feel the wires dig into tissue at the sides, and the wires are obviously too short. There's some orange in a glass effect going on as there is quadding over the top especially at the center gore. Perhaps the 28E would work for me now although it didn't work in the past when I was a smaller size.
