  1. Ritzy Padded Balcony Bra (SG2101)

    1
    like

    36H

    Didn't fit

I'm soft, short rooted, center full, pendulous, projected, and narrowish.

This is a padded/lined half cup bra. I love the black pinstriping fabric overlay on top of the red padding. The lace on the top of the cups sticks up a bit, and it matches the lace on the bottom of the gore and where the hooks meet the eyes.

The straps are a touch wide set, and rub against my tail of spence on both sides. They're a simple black strap that fully adjust. I think the straps are a touch short, so that's something to look out for.

The red bow on the gore has ... a cute clear stone charm on it. Gore doesn't tack by about 2 fingers on me, but that's pretty par for the course. I've only been able to get Panache and Ewa Michalak to get close. I do love the black on black pinstriping on the gore, and at the top the wires are right next to each other.

The wires in the cups themselves are slightly thinner than other wires I have come across, and the cup feels narrow for a 36H. Not as stiff as Panache wires, not as soft as Freya's.

The cup is a touch tall on me with a little bit of empty space where the cup meets the strap, but not a dealbreaker. Someone with a more average root would be fine in this bra. Bottom of the cup is shallow, and I think if I wore it longer than trying it on, I would fold the bottom over the wire. This is not as shallow as Freya's half cups. Seams are very visible through tight clothing. Internally the cup is a 3 part half cup design. I do get a nice rounded shape in this bra, rounded on the sides

I do think the bottom of the band is tighter than the top and it is snug on me, so maybe a touch of uneven tension in the band, it is an exact 36 stretched out. 3 rows of hooks as well.

    • Hi! I know you sort of touched on this in the review, but would you say this fits similarly to a 36H Panache? Is it true to size? Thanks :)

    • Which panache? It fits wide and shallowish, but is true to size. I was a bit short rooted for it, and had gaping along the top, which is why I returned it.

    • Panache Ariza or Floris...or Cleo Darcy/.Juna? Thanks :)

    • Very much like the Juna.

I was warned that Curvy Kate bras typically don't work for full-on-bottom breasts, but I wanted to try one to see for myself. I was not shocked that there was a lot of excess material at the top of the cup. There's also too much material at the outsides of the cups (under my arms). It's not that the cup goes back too far (I do have wide roots) but that there's just extra material, like the bra was expecting me to have twice the amount of breast tissue on this area of my body. It might be worth trying the 34E (same band, one cup size smaller).

I wouldn't completely write off Curvy Kate bras. Sometimes fit can be off, especially if you get hold of older styles, and sizing doesn't always correlate to what you'd expect a UK size to be, but there are worthwhile bras for bottom heavy boobs.

Most recently I faired really well with the black/violet Bardot sheer cup. I had to size up from my usual 30GG to a 30H but it fits so well.

So far, this is the best fit I've found. Slight wrinkling at the bottom of the cups, but freaking close! Slight torpedo shape, but I think I'm going to have to get used to the pointy look, as that seems to be what my breasts fit best. It's also super cute and comfortable so far.

  4. Dare Plunge Bra (SG2411)

This one is for fuller breasts. It is very close, but I tend to do better with more lined, molded, and/or padded bras. I do like this one and the fit isn't too bad, a 28 E would likely fit better but I think I would still have a bit of extra space in the tip. My breasts are a bit shallow, so that isn't a big surprise. Very pretty and well made.

This is a poor fit for me. The woman in the underwears shop fitted me in it- can't see her logic really!
The band is too long even on the tightest hook and the cups are too far apart for me. The apex of the cups point slightly outward to the sides so when looking down I look like I have corners. The wires wrap around too far under my arms and I tend to fall into the centre of the bra very quickly (which is not a problem I often encounter). It doesn't feel secure or supportive- it's hard to tell how much this is due to the sizing issue and how much is just a feature of the design.
The quality is reasonable, a bit gaudy looking for me though. This is the only Curvy Kate bra I've bought and I've yet to find a style of theirs that fits. Maybe I'll try again with their next season...

    30F

    Didn't fit

Positive: gorgeous bra in a pretty print with comfortable fabric. The lining is light but it definitely has the sturdiness I like without sacrificing softness. The band is a good 30, not too tight, not too loose, not overly stretchy. Wires are fairly narrow for a 30F (though they are just barely too wide for my tolerance zone since they flex outward a bit after the band is fastened).

Negative: Obviously, it doesn't fit me. As with most CK bras I've tried, the straps are a bit wide. The biggest problem is that cups run large. I tried adjusting things around for several minutes to get a handle on ... why this bra didn't work on me, and I have to say, this fits more like a 30FF/G. I think the issue is this: the cups are really, really tall. I am usually a 30F/FF depending on the brand, and just looking at the cups compared to the rest of my Freya/Cleo/Comexim bras tells me that this is taller than usual. About 1-2 inches taller, at least.

My best assessment for this bra is that it would be best suited to someone who is full on top, a bit firm, narrow, tall root, and fairly projected.

If I were fuller on top and firmer, this might have worked out, but alas, back to amazon it goes.

I think with a tighter shirt or tank this bra will be great as I spill ever so slightly with nothing against it....if that makes sense.

    The band is nicely snug

    Tacks very well

Seems nicely narrow and contains all of my tissue on the sides and underneath. It's just the little spillage up top that's an issue

Yet again ... Curvy Kate, why are you doing this to me? The 32E - Curvy Kate » Tease Me [showgirl Collection] (SG2001) was too small and my nipples were sticking out of the cup, but the 32F in the same model and colourway is just too damn big! There is at least a centimeter of space between my flesh and the bra in the upper part of the cup and I am *so* disappointed. Well, this one is going to be 'look at me in it and take it off now' bra.

[EDIT 14.01.2014] After a while of wearing it I seem to like the fit more and more. Now it kind of adjusted to my boobs and I like the fit nicely. Magic or what?

I think this bra fits, not the best, but really nicely enough. It provides overall great support and firm structure. The top of the cup is also just slightly closed so sometimes when i move or breathe deeply enough, it cuts into breast tissue. Otherwise, it sits well, and i find it rather comfortable to wear.

One thing I definitely like about this bra is that while the band allows for just enough room to stretch for a nice snug fit, the bra straps are a little more firm and less stretchy. Which I really, really like. I somehow think maybe this is what provides the extra support and hold for the cups in this bra for my full on bottom boobs (that always tend to stretch the straps and wrinkle the cups near the underwire under the boobs).

  10. Thrill Me Padded Bra (SG3001)

    I have the peach/plum color.
This is the first CK bra that has ever fit me in the cups. The cups are a nice shape. They are open on top and don't gape. The cups aren't too tall which is good if you're petite. Even though it's a 30 band it doesn't ride up at all.
I like the 28F CK Tease me and Thrill me bras, but the straps are really wide. I don't have this problem with this size. The strap width is just right. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" />
I definitely want to alter this band because the 28 band is so much better on my Tease Me bra.

Couldn't really write a proper fitting comment on this bra as I returned it immediately a while ago, but I can mention that why I returned it was that it kept squeaking constantly whenever I moved. The fit was otherwise unmemorable, I remember it looking okay, but not being very comfortable. It might have worn in and become more comfortable with time, but between the lackluster fit and the constant noise, I decided it wasn't worth it to keep at the time.

*sigh* I wanted a red bra and this one was in the budget (and free shipping/returns). No measurements for this size so it was a gamble but others said the cup ran large so I ordered my usual.
Band is too snug for comfort, an extender would fix it if that were the only issue.
Cups are too shallow and small overall. I'd need at least a 32HH (with extender) or 34H in this I think.
Wires measure a good width (narrow-average) but get distorted too wide from the band.
Gore is the perfect height for me. It's low but not dangerously so.
Red color is beautiful and this one has the j-hook for racerback.
Fabric feels soft but snags easily
This one is going back, good thing I didn't order the brief too.

  13. Princess Balcony Bra (CK6001)

My first foray into the world of Curvy Kate is the 38G - Curvy Kate » Princess Balcony Bra (CK6001), which was recently on sale everywhere, at least in the teal colourway, so I thought I would give it a try. I researched the measurements for it and it looked like a 38G would actually work for me.

It's a beautiful bra, a gorgeous colour, and very feminine detailing, especially the pink ribbon that runs across the neckline and through the straps. And I am a complete sucker for polka dots. *grin*

So, my response to this bra? Just one word: ... OMG! I am *totally* in love with this bra. It fits so well, the depth and width of the cups, the length of the wires, the separation of the cups, the width of the straps, and the height of the gore. I feel completely supported, like my boobs are being cradled by firm, gentle hands. It's snug and I like that. It makes me feel very secure, like I won't have to even spare a single thought during the day, worrying about how I look, because this bra makes me feel like I look great. What more can a woman possibly ask of a bra?

I would buy this bra again in a New York minute. If I had the money, I'd buy one in every colour. It also makes me very curious about other CK models.

I am now one very happy woman. *giggle*

I <3 this bra. It is so cute/pretty. I really like the color combination. :)

    • Oof. Jj how do I make the 'fits' star disappear? I marked this bra as not fitting anymore (quadboob and band riding up) and it still says that it fits...

    • I see this causing lots of confusion.

It shows as fitting because it fit you at some point.
Some user today may have the same measurements that you did when this fit, so it will be useful for them when they see that this bra fits you, they will go to see what else fit you next to this and see what else worked. On this particular case you didn't mark anything else as fitting when this bra worked for you.

If the star wasn't showing, then a user may never know that this bra ever fit you and they won't bother to see what else works with this bra, regardless of when in time that happened.

Until I decide how to address that, (it's been an ongoing issue for the last 6+ years) you could update your review indicating that as of ### date fit is different.

    • Jj I sure know it, but my other bras ( such as 32F - Freya » Deco Hatty Moulded Plunge Bra (1281) ) which did fit me in the past no longer bear a star, though they still show what bras fitted me when those no-longer-fitting bras were fine for me. I think it skews my Recommentadtions very much, since before I marked my bras non-fitting I had about 30 recommendations, and now when I added a few fitting (very popular models) and I still have this Flaunt bra marked as fitting I have one recommendation.

This bra in the black and red colorway is gorgeous. The contrasting lace and straps are perfection. The straps are just a little too far apart. They cut into my underarms just a little bit (you can see in the front facing picture). It's not enough to kill it. What may be its downfall is the bagginess on top of the cups. Perhaps it's a shape issue. I am still figuring out that stuff. The band does seem to run a bit tight. I measure at a 28e so the sister size of 30dd should be fine but it is instead, a little tight.

I tried to move the straps over a little, too, because they were really wide, as well. Even after these alterations, it still is really uncomfortable. I've come to the conclusion that Curvy Kate bras are too wide in the wires for me to wear. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" />

I returned this in a 32JJ - the wires were way too wide for me, too, and the shape just didnt work at all. I finally read one positive review of wide-wired bras - they can minimize you so your shirts fit better, by smooshing your boobs around the to side? Mmm, no, its not working that way for me lol

However i just ordered a Lola on sale - hoping it'll do better for me lol

    • Yeah the minimizing effect only works if your breast roots are wide enough that part of your breast tissue can somehow settle that far out to the side. This is not the case for me. Massively wide wires only leads to empty space on the sides and spilling way the F out in front!

    • 1

I need wide wires to enclose the entirety of my breast tissue, which, btw, has been moving more towards the front of my torso but at the same time because of where the root starts I have to move boob to put my arms flat against my sides. I got rid of a lot of my button down shirts during my recent closet clean out because the two buttons where my boobs are refuse to stay closed. They button, but if I breathe, they don't stay that way.

How many reviews have you uploaded with not a single picture or measurement? What matters to me most is the measurements and pictures!! Sigh.

    • 2

dbmamaz I'm just getting started here :) I did add measurements on the bras I intend to sell, but I do plan to go back and add measurements and photos to all of them.

    • Also, a review should not just include how the bra fits YOU, but should be a little more general, so it is helpful for other people as well.
You can add your personal notes about bra fit as a "note" to the bra, so it's not visible to others.

I don't mean this as an offense. Maybe it would be helpful if you check out other reviews with many positive votes, so you can figure out what is important :)

    • 1

and sorry if we seem to be ganging up, its just there's been a lot of people posting reviews without measurements. and thats what makes this place different than reading about the bra on amazon or something - the data, the measurements. Its not just you

But most of us are not professional reviewers. I'm sure not. I've been learning a lot here over the past 2 months

    • 1

vexingbet You could include the characteristics of your own boobs in the review, so people who read it would know if it applies to them or not.
(i.e. wide/narrow root, fullness on top or on bottom, hanging or not, and so on.)

    • Btw I'm not a professional reviewer either, I think none of us on Bratabase is :)
Still, it IS possible to write reviews in a way that does not just give your own impression, but also would be helpful to others.

    • 1

bracrastination I hadn't encountered any of these terms for shape until I came here. I don't know what shape I am and it really just confuses me more. Is there any way (maybe asking for fit help?) I can get help determining what my shape is?

    • 4

I think the main reason for the all the comments is because you posted your review as a public adventure. I'm surprised to be honest as I've mainly found Bratabase to be very supportive. It stinks that you're gettng attacked when you're just trying to find bras that fit.

    • 2

uniteacher Thank you for understanding that I'm a newbie :) I see now that I did flood the adventures page. Can I undo that? I didn't realize at the time that clicking that box did anything more than just make the review public. Live and learn, I guess :/

    • 5

I agree with uniteacher , I am personally shocked at some of the comments on this thread. I don't think it is really that hard to be welcoming or at least civil to newbies who are just discovering the site and how it works. There's no good reason to start out by immediately jumping on them.

How would you guys feel if someone had attacked you the very first day you posted here?! Did we rudely demand that you contribute something to us before we had even helped you with anything? I think not, that is certainly not the way I was greeted at any rate. If people on this site welcomed you when you arrived, if others have been kind and patient with you in your fitting journey I feel like you should try to pay it forward.

    • vexingbet

As far as I'm concerned, it looks great. I'm jealous, 'cause Curvy Kate just doesn't work for me. Wires are much too narrow, at least as far as I can determine. :(
