Heya, thanks for reviewing multiple sizes, very helpful!

Just an FYI, if you'd like input on your review (to keep or not to keep (; ) you can click the 'share review as adventure' button so that more people get to see it!

Now it just disappears onto the bra's specific homepage, where only people (like me) who coincidentally look up the Freya Starlight get to see your review (:

I almost kept this bra but it was a bit too loose on the top section of lace. I think it might be due to the top section not being bonded together like the bottom section so it has less rigidity or maybe the shape is just wrong for me, as my boobs are fuller on the bottom. I found the gore really comfortable and it tacked well too. This is the first Freya bra I've tried and I was pleasantly surprised at the soft fleecy fabric covering the wires inside which made it very comfortable. I'm not sure I understood the side support feature but I don't ... have anything against it either! I didn't find the fabric scratchy at all (like others on here) but I wear a lot of wool jumpers so maybe I've trained myself for a little bit of a scratchy fabric. The band felt really comfortable and supportive and if it was possible I'd order this in a 30C, as I think the cup size was probably the only issue. I also liked the shape it created even though it isn't padded. The lace is quite see through so that's something to bear in mind if you want coverage. The colour poseidon is a lovely deep teal meets petrol blue and honestly was a large reason for me ordering it!

I LOVE the look of these bras, and they are comfy for lace! Sadly, they are not for me. This cut really accentuated the relatively small size difference between my breasts. It fit one near perfectly but had much wrinkling and empty space in the other which looks weird under clothing.
My take is that the wires were just too wide and deep U for me -IMF mismatch-and a little too closed off at the top for my shape (which I'm still trying to determine, tbh).
I think this bra may work well for those with wider/shorter roots than me, with even fullness and immediate projection.

Thank you! :) Me too - it's such a pretty bra. I tried it in 30E as well hoping it would fit but alas it was far, far worse... Simultaneously too small and large... Still trying to figure that one out! Lol
I'll add and review that one soon.

    28E

    Fits

At the beginning of my bra journey in summer of 2019, I had purchased the Freya Starlight Hero Side Support Bra in sizes 28D and 28DD to try, back when I was a smaller size. 28DD worked for me at the time, but I ended up not keeping this bra because I just didn't need it, and because I wasn't satisfied with the appearance or comfort of the style. Freya has added this to their current permanent collection, so I picked up their newest version in the fashion color Slate. Although I am currently measuring between 28E and 28F, I ended up getting the ... 28E because it was cheaper, even though I know that their Side Support styles tend to run about a half size small.

This is a 4 piece cup with side support panel. Compared to the Viva Side Support, another one of their newer styles, the 28E is not quite so small. Viva is at least a half size small and nearly a full size small, but Starlight is somewhere between true to size and a half size small. Other than this, the fit and construction between the two styles are the same. I have also tried the Rose Tapestry Side Support Bra a while back, and concluded it is the same. If Fantasie's standard side support styles (the balanced ones, not the ones for extremely projected shapes) work for you, then this is a good option, especially if you need the 28 band.

Overall, Starlight fit me pretty well, but I just have this feeling that the cups overall are just a little bit small. Everything feels fine, but the proportions look a little off on my body (unlike the Viva that I purchased in 28F). In addition, the fabric here is quite rigid and doesn't have much stretch, so it won't sit as smoothly on your body if the fit is not perfect. The band is not snug but is comfortable and decently TTS. It is made of solid thick stretch knit with decently firm elastic, and has a gentle leotard back.

My main criticism from my original review of Starlight was regarding the scratchiness of the fabric. Unfortunately, it still hasn't been remedied here. It feels a bit like the fabric has been stiffened with starch, however I noticed that while the upper and lower cups are made from the same combination of mesh backed-lace, the upper cup is two separate layers, while the bottom cup is fused together into one fabric. I suspect the fusible interfacing used is what is causing the fabric to be so stiff, so I am not sure that this would soften with washing. I understand that they would fuse the layers together for stability, as the bottom of the cup gives nice support, but I wish they would find a new version that wouldn't make the inside of the cup so scratchy! Note that because the upper cup is two separate layers, it has some natural stretch, and the upper edge elastic is stretchy as well, so it should not cut into upper tissue.

The lace design seems to have been updated from the original, if I remember correctly. The current design is of polka dots on a webby-looking background. This fabric is lightweight yet supportive. Both the mesh and lace have stretch, but the bottom cups do not stretch because of the fusible interfacing. The same fabric is used throughout the cups and cradle, while the back of the band is solid. Straps are plain medium width elastic, though they could benefit from a bit of texture to avoid slipping during wear. The hardware is attractive gold-tone in the front and dyed to match in the back. The only trim on this bra is simple and tasteful-- a small folded ribbon with a rich gold-tone round stud.

    36E

    Fits

The most important thing to know about my breasts is that they're very pendulous and the tissue is very soft. I have relatively narrow roots, medium height. They're also splayed and wide-set.

I've had some success with Freya balconettes before, but very limited success with their soft cup styles. The lack of stretch anywhere tends to mean cups are left gaping and wrinkling badly at the top. When I saw that Offbeat had a stretch top panel, I had to give it a shot. And I'm glad I did, because I love this bra so much. The color is great, the height is great, the fit is great. I ... was shocked to read a review of this bra that said the 34J cup is full stretch, because the 36E is not! The only section of the cup that's full stretch is the top lace panel.

True to Freya, the wires on Offbeat are relatively soft, and they're also a little on the shorter side of things, both at the gore and at the outside of the cup. I don't mind this! It's hard for me to find bras that don't have at least a little puckering at the IMF, even if only on my left side, which is more projected, but this one is just deep enough to skirt by without the dreaded wrinkling. The pink straps are a nice touch. I'm a fan!

yolibrarian , you've added another bra to my list of ones to check out!

I'm a pendulous, narrow-rooted 36F who has always been charmed by Freya's colorways but was morose because Freya seems to specialize in bras for people who need wide wires.

The Offbeat looks lovely on you, and I'm glad to hear that there's a Freya that could work for me.

  8. Expression Plunge Bra (5491)

    2
    like

    28E

    Fits

Expression is another new Freya style. Sometimes Freya's unlined plunge styles don't work for me because they can be too tall in the cup for me, so my lack of upper center fullness makes the cup look pretty empty. Thankfully, this turned out to be the Fancies Unlined Plunge cut, which is their only Unlined Plunge cut that works for my shape. The main difference is that Fancies is made from completely rigid lace, while Expression is stretch lace lined with mesh, so the cups have some give.

One big difference I've noticed in Freya's new styles is that their bands are much more TTS. ... Gone are the 28s that feel like 30s . . . this 28E is very snug on me because it's so firm, though the measurement doesn't look unusual. I suspect that they have switched elastic qualities, since the Viva I tried has a similar snug fitting band, despite both styles having short wing heights. This is so snug on me that it'd be more comfortable with an extender to break it in, however there's no issues with wire distortion, so I wouldn't personally go up a band size.

The cups are made from a very unique stretch lace that gives the look of round crochet flowers. It gives off a 70s vibe, especially in the Ruby colorway I purchased, which is more of a wine red than ruby. The upper cup is delicate diamond pattered mesh. Both upper and lower panels are lined with mesh. I find this to be a very nice combination as it gives support but is still stretchy. Since I am currently between sizes 28E and 28F, many of my existing non-stretch 28E Freyas are now too small in the cup. This still works for me, both in the cut and fabrication. The upper edge is trimmed with open mesh elastic, though the elastic is stretchier than the seam connecting it to the upper cup, so tall roots may still feel a bit restricted by the seam rather than the elastic. Note that the wires are basically the same as on the Fancies Plunge as well--on this particular bra, they are a gentle shallow curve with longer sides. Wires are comfortable and have good flexibility.

I don't have much upper inner fullness, so sometimes this Fancies Plunge cut works for me, and sometimes the upper inner cup is really empty on me. Right now it looks pretty good. If you have very little fullness in this area, however, you might want to skip this cut entirely, as the cup will just be baggy and empty in this area. Many of Freya's unlined plunges are designed for a round breast shape with lots of upper inner fullness.

Since the crochet lace is the star of the show, the rest of the styling is kept simple. Straps are wide satin elastic with picot edges and are fully adjustable. There are no bows, simply a folded piece of ribbon at the center gore with a small rose gold hoop charm. For once, I find the metal charm on this style to be appropriate, and add to the vintage vibe. This would've been even lovelier if they had kept rose gold hardware throughout!

Expression is a nice update to a Freya classic. Skip it if you can't stand the Fancies Plunge, but if you're a Fancies lover, give this a try! You may want to size up in the band depending on how current Freya bands fit you.

Me: Average projection. Fuller on bottom. Slightly wider left breast (I suspect this breast is also 1-2 ml taller than my other breast). Maybe tall roots? Usually wear 28DD or 30D.

Great fit. Encompasses both breasts nicely. Although, there is slight quad boob on the right breast but barely noticeable. Perfect fit on my left breast. I'd say this bra fits me 95%, which is pretty good since my breasts aren't 100% exactly the same. Comfortable bra and doesn't dig into my chest at all. Coral is a nice color, too.

I recently acquired 3 used bras. I was not too worried about a perfect fit because I'm working from home, and was hoping to find some less intense options than my Ewa Michalak FBs to wear on days I just wanted more comfort.

I think this is a pretty bra. However it is not the right fit for me. I believe it is too shallow at the gore and the bottom of the cup for me, and slightly too small. The gore does not tack. The pattern is cute (gold geometric circle/snowflakes?) and the lace is sharp looking. But I did not like this enough to keep it and plan to list it.

    • I wonder if it would fit better with narrower wires?

    • 1

Maybe? But would that fix the shallowness at center and bottom? It might give more room at top, right? Not huge on bra surgery past wire-bending.

    • 1

      It’s probably not worth it.

    • 1

Why don't they ever improve their large cup range at Freya? No one can get a good fit in those weird constructions. :(

    • 1

What? No scary underneath photo? :)

You can definitely see that it is too shallow at the gore.

For context, I usually enjoy bralettes or going bra-less. This bra was to be my professional, no nipple/no bounce, work bra.

Unfortunately this bra is not a plunge. it's more of a full coverage balconette - not really my cup of tea.

The underwire goes quite high into my armpit and requires fairly short straps to remove the spaces up top due to my bottom heavy breasts.

Also, I didn't realize how helpful padding can be for support and overall great look under clothes. The Freya Unchained looks great under low cut tops and is my go-to for date night now. I definitely wouldn't sleep in it, but I can go 5-6 hours without being even slightly bothered. Also, the daisy embroidery on the black version is just to die for. Freya has so much attention to detail in their designs! On my blog I show a picture of what it looks like under a shirt. Check it out, I hope it's helpful to you in your bra finding mission!

  13. Florri Padded Half Cup Bra (3103)

My shape is low set, short and narrow rooted, and soft.

This bra is the second Florri I've tried. I previously tried the 28FF - Freya » Florri Padded Half Cup Bra (3103) , and had some quadding, so I decided to try the 28G. I ordered it through Belle Lingerie via ebay because it was a couple dollars cheaper through ebay.

I marked this bra as fitting even though the bottom of the cup is a bit shallow at the wire, the cups are a touch wide, the wings are a bit too short, and the band is stretchy for a 28". It's called a half ... cup, but it's really cut like a balconnette. The shape is more natural than a half cup also, and it's more full coverage on the upper half of the boobs. I had to really hike it up because the bra wanted to sit a bit lower due to the shallowness at the wire. Originally I had some noticeable quadding, but once I hiked it up, it was better. I think the shallowness will "loosen up" after a couple wears and I won't notice it so much (as least that's what I'm hoping!).

It's very comfortable though, and the straps are extra wide, so they feel nice and supportive. The straps adjust long enough for my tall frame, and they look like they could adjust quite short also. There is a pattern on the straps that is pretty. The bra itself has a sort of satiny feel that will work well under cotton tops (no tenting). The band is stretchy, like I said, and it has 3 x 2 set of hooks. The hooks are spaced widely, so hooking an extender onto them might be a bit tricky, since most extenders have hooks closer together. The gore is quite wide, so if you're close set, this bra won't work for you. Again, I ordered a patterned bra, which is unlike me, but it's pretty and reminds me of summer with it's flower patterns.

Overall the quality feels really good, the comfort is excellent and the appearance is pretty good also.

    • I got it at a really good price. Check Belle Lingerie and ebay (belle lingerie)

    • Looks like a better fit! Glad it works better for you!

    • 2

Thanks. It's definitely not perfect, but it'll be comfortable, and for the price I paid... I can't complain.... I need to wear it longer to see if the wire shallowness makes the cup slide out of my IMF, but I'm hoping the fabric loosens up and accomodates the projection a bit more with some wear.

    • 1

too bad the fit isn't a little better, it's super cute.

Did it wear in the way you hoped?

    • 2

engineer I really like this bra actually. I'm temporarily wearing a different sister size due to sensory issues with snug bands, but this was a good one in my rotation. Comfortable and kept me contained. I never noticed the fit issues while wearing it. And I also think it's super cute. It's a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day kind of bra.

    • 1

Glad it worked for you for a while. I agree with the ray of sunshine on a gloomy day phrasing. This hits that mark of "pleasant and happy" that the world could use a bit more of.

    Didn't fit

Oh my Hufflepuff heart, this colour!!! I have seen this particular bra on a few Instagram posts from the various boob accounts that I follow. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried a Freya, and I don’t think I’ve ever tried a high apex bra like this. Needless to say, aside from the Deco, I haven’t had much luck with Freya.

The lace is a vibrant mustard yellow and has a sort of bohemian aesthetic to the lace. The upper portion of the cup is sort of a muted geometric pattern. The shape, I would say, is like a triangle bra or bralette so a bit plungey. ... Sadly, it’s not compatible with my shape. It’s partly that the cups have an elastic edge to them that cuts into my soft tissue, but it’s partly because I kind of have taller roots, even if they are shallow. Now would a larger cup have fit better? Maybe, but no point in trying because that lace would NOT lay flat.

So another beautiful autumn gem of a bra that sadly is not for me.

That is such an unusual colour for a bra! I have the same kind of fit issues with bras that shape.. they just don't seem to work on me, and not because I have any upper fullness, but because of centre tissue (not as much in my recent size, but moreso when I was a bit bigger)

  15. Sansa Underwired Plunge Balcony Bra (5191)

    28DD

    Fits

After my disappointing experience with the Sansa Bralette in 28DD, I wasn't sure if I should risk trying the Unlined Plunge Bra version, but I decided to go for it because I had a hunch that it was built on the Fearne block. I am thrilled to report that this deduction was correct, and that the Sansa Unlined Plunge actually fits me perfectly (I had to make some adjustments to my Fearne due to the wire shape).

The main thing that drew me to the Sansa styles in the first place is the pretty floral print and lace styling. It's definitely a girly bra, and the styling ... is appealing enough to me to bypass my general dislike of printed bras and aversion to white bras. Sansa is definitely super pretty, with super soft white geo stretch lace upper cups, super soft floral print fabric, and a fancy floral textured strap.

I find that the cut of the cups is similar to Fancies, only in a super lightweight nonstretch tricot instead of nonstretch lace. It isn't as deep or as projected as other Freya cuts, so it works well on me. The upper panel is just right and sits against my body without any extra space or gapping. The wires, however, have some inconsistency, just like other Fancies variants. I've purchased over 10 Fancies in the same size, and have gotten some narrow J shaped wires, some nicely rounded wires, and some wide, splayed swoosh wires. Even my Fearne came with weird wires that gave me a horribly distorted fit at first. So, if you want Fancies to be your fit, I highly recommend you get comfortable with bending your wires.

The band on this style significantly differs from Fancies, which has the gate back with 1 hook. Sansa/Fearne has a pretty sturdy mesh band that runs TTS for Freya bras, and it has a super wide hook panel that helps the band feel nice and secure. It's also a full band style, which helps the band stay in place. My only callouts on this bra are the weird triangular metal charm at the center gore that I've seen on so many Freya fashion styles, and the fact that the fabric overlay on the straps makes it difficult to adjust the straps. If you wear your straps on the short side like I do, you'll have to adjust the strap over the fabric, which can be a bit tricky. I wish they hadn't done this, as the strap itself is pretty enough.

All in all, the Sansa/Fearne is a great, comfortable, lightweight summer style that will surprise you with its soft materials.

    • Since it fits you differently from Fearne, wouldn't that mean it's not the same cut as Fearne? Or am I missing something here?

    • hurrrrrmione No, it fits identically to Fearne. If you compare measurements here and put the two bras on top of each other, you can see they are the same. The block refers to the pattern that the bra is based on. All the fabric panels are the same, the only difference is the wire shape.

As I mentioned in my review, Freya bras frequently come with differently shaped underwires in the same model. I’ve purchased over 10 Fancies in the same size and the wire shape varies between the different ones, but in general the measurement of the cups is the same. This is a quality issue with having consistently shaped underwires in the bras, since all the wires are the same length, but some are more open, some are narrower, etc.

Once you bend the wires to the same shape, the fit on all of the bras is identical.

  16. Mode Padded Half Cup Bra (5033)

This is and my Freya Fearne are my first bras to actually fit! Yay!
I was wearing a bra size too big, and I finally decided to take the plunge to try something that the Bratabase recommended. It recommended three discontinued Freya half cups (Freya Tartan was one of them). So I looked at which half cups that had similar measurements/the same cut that weren't discontinued.
This bra fits slightly less structured than the Fearne, but that isn't too much of a concern for me, it still holds me in and fits comfortably. It's smooth under clothes, gives nice lift, perfect width and is generally perfect!

    Didn't fit

For me this bra was a smidge too tall, and the straps killed the fit for me. I was trying to sister size into this size as I need a 28" or less band. The band on this however was WAY too stretchy. I immediately wore it on the last hook and even then it was too much stretch. I had read a few reviews from folks with very similar measurements to mine online before purchasing this bra. They had said it had fit them well, but this was not the case for me.
    What didn't work:
1.) The straps are far too wide set for me. This tells me ... I can't sister-size in Freya bras at least with this sort of material as it is far too wide for my frame.
2.) I would have needed the cups to be more close-set. I had read that they were a bit separated, I should have weighted that more heavily in my decision making process.
3.)The straps were strangely long for me. Actually the longest I've ever encountered in a bra. I couldn't even fasten the J-hook because once I shortened the straps enough that they weren't falling off my shoulders the J-hook racerback converter was at the same point as the back of my neck. So unless I wanted to wear it like a halter top or bikini top then I would not be able to fasten it at all.
4.) I filled the cups, but the bottom of the cup did not have enough projection for my breasts. This has become a common issue of mine with bras no matter the style: moulded, padded, lined or unlined.

The fabric of the cups were comfortable, and overall the materials were very comfy.
Overall, I think would have been a good bra for me if it had been much less wide-set in general. It was very comfy, and I liked the feel the bra in general. I'll be returning this for a smaller band size from Amazon if I can get it. I want to see if a 28GG is any better.

  18. Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234)

Will update after wearing for a full day with further comfort info. Hello, cleavage! I have finally discovered the wonders of the Freya Deco. I originally ordered this in a 30F but exchanged for a 28F because I had gapping and the band wasn't tight enough. The 28F fits surprisingly well considering it's more suited for shallow shapes and I'm projected. The gore is low enough to tack despite how much the bra pushes my breasts together. I had been wanting a nice simple black bra, and this is definitely satisfactory! Onto my issues...again, I'll update after wearing it for longer since this was just a half hour ... of wearing it straight out of the box, but this may be the most uncomfortable bra I've ever put on for longer than ten minutes. I'm sure the black colorway fits tighter than the others because of the dye etc., and I'm sure the band will loosen a bit with wear to become more comfortable, but the bottom of the band digs into my ribcage so hard and makes it kind of difficult to breathe. I tightened the straps to try to bring the back up higher a little and maybe alleviate the discomfort, but then the straps just started hurting too. The fabric is soft to the touch but the bra certainly doesn't seem soft during wear -- it just felt really stiff, so I think I'll have to go through a Dr. Martens-type wearing-in process.
I haven't really had cleavage in any bras that fit yet, but I admit I was glad to see it back with the Deco. I think the wires are narrow enough for me too, which is nice.

It’s a great bra for cleavage for sure. But it’s also boob armor. The cups will stay pretty firm. It’s definitely a love/hate bra for me. I definitely suggest that you try the PL and M cuts from Ewa Michalak. Lots of cleavage and much softer cups. Though not totally seamless (some Comexim plunges are smoother). Also, Bravissimo Satine might be better, too.

I have a deco too, and they just stay stiff, even after washing. They do create great cleavage though. I'm sure the band will stretch after a few wears, but you could always use an extender if it's too unbearable.

    Fits

I have a thing about the Freya Deco. It’s one of the first bras I bought locally from the specialty shop that used to be in my area. I bought the Spotlight in a 32DD which I thought fit at the time. I never had a band issue, and at the time I was not used to 30 bands as I am now, not was I swooping and scooping...I was leaning forward to put on and juggling and thought that was enough and what I was supposed to do.

I wore it like crazy. It felt like boob armour compared with some of my bras st the time, ... but I got amazing cleavage and the shape under tops was simply unbeatable. I later bought the matching briefs and was in polka dot heaven. I actually still have it, although it is pretty stretched out in the band and I don’t fit the cups anymore.

Last year in the summer, the shop that I had gotten the Spotlight from was closing to move out of town, and had a big 50% off sale to clear stock. At the time, I opted to try the 28FF, knowing that the band might be too tight, but wanting to gage the cup fit as it’s the sister size for the 30F, which was the size I was thinking about needing based on the fit of my Spotlight. Well I was pretty surprised that it was a really good fit, but as I was thinking, the band was a bit too tight. I could have gone with a row of extender hooks and probably been ok. At the time, I decided not to get it, because even though the green was stunning on me, I was really not a fan of the animal print that was the straps and trim details. That, and the fact that I was wearing my Ewa plunge then and getting as good cleavage, with a softer and lighter bra. And even at half price, it was still expensive. I do miss the green though... I think back to this bra often.

Which leads me to this lovely little blush number. I tried it in a few sizes: 28G, 30FF, and this one (30F). I initially tried the 28G thinking that maybe the band was a bit too tight in the 28FF prior because the cup was too small. In my mind, I knew that wasn’t right, as the cup was pretty perfect in the 28FF, but I also knew that I had begun to see an increase in volume/tissue/size late summer or early fall, so I was not sure if I would need a larger cup size or not. I also picked the 30FF with the knowledge that the 28G would be too tight.

I could not get the 28G done up and switched to the 30FF. Surprised that I had a bit of empty space in the cups, I opted to try a cup size down and see if the 30F would fit.

It did and did not. The band tightness was good. I coul use loosest or middle hooks. Cup volume was better. Pretty perfect. The colour was nice too (a little bit pinker than the pictures show). The fabric covering the cups was super silky and smooth although this one was snagged. The thing that bothered me most about this fit was the cup height and cup edge. It seemed taller and maybe more open than the other ones I had tried. The top edge of the cups were visible under my thinner shirt and the camisole they had there to try. It was not quite as bad as the Kiyoko half cup I tried, but it wasn’t far off. If I can’t wear it under light tops, then I have no use for it as I would want it for lighter tops where I need a nude/fleshy/light coloured bra. Both fitters really loved the fit of the Deco on me though.

I don’t know if it’s just the colourway of production, or if it’s just the larger cup size, since my 32DD never did that, and and I don’t recall the 28FF being visible under my camisole either. I’m not super broken up about it as I was trying the Passionata Brooklyn in 65G again and I generally preferred the lighter feeling of it compared with the Deco as a summer t shirt bra, though I had minor quadding in it and no 65H to try (I might try 70G even though band is loose, just to see how the cups fit).

Anyway, I still really love the Deco and fit, though since I can get same fit from Ewa and Comexim without the boob armour, I will probably continue to pass the Deco up unless I find a really good deal. Plus, Bravissimo Satine is supposed to be good like Deco but better, but now I question my Satine size.

I am glad I tried it again, and maybe one day I will have a new Deco, but now isn’t that time.

This bra has a slightly too long band for me, so I had to start it on the second hook. Other than that, the wires are slightly too wide, but nothing that really affects the fit of this bra too much. It is very pretty and true to size, though fairly tall. Probably best for even to FOT boobs with average projection and a bit wider roots, though it fits this girl with average roots as well.
