Is this a shape, or a fit issue? I've got a bra that seems to fit perfectly on my smaller side, and the top of the cup is smooth and amazing like I didn't know was possible, but on the other side, it has that little armpit roll thing. I kind of have tiny itty bitty armpit rolls without a bra on too (though less dramatic), so I'm wondering if this is just part of my shape, or what??

the little armpit rolls can be caused by 2 things:
1. the cup is too small for your larger boob, too narrow wired, too short cupped, or some kind of shape or size mismatch.
2. you have a prominent Tail of Spence.
If it's #2, there is not much you can do about it.

Why can't my boobs stay the same size all the time?! I'm fine with gaining and losing boobage when I gain and lose weight, but this size changing without weight changing just because stupid reproductive cycles? Argh! (Frustrated laughter.) /rant

definitely agree. Esp at 50 - i really, really want to be done with all this crap. I'm old enough to be a grandmother - not that there seems to be any chance of that happening any time soon. (My daughter is 23 but hates . . . almost everyone, and never was in to kids. My son is 19 and has never had a date. and then the 12 yo who still has never expressed any interest in a girl)
I feel your pain. I recently went off of hormonal birth control and for some reason my boobs have gotten bigger while my weight has remained the same. But I have noticed my body fat redistributing? I'm confused. But it's as if as soon as I get a good collection of bras in rotation it all changes and I have to buy a new size.

At work, I usually wear bras that are too shallow so that I can kind of minimize them by redistribution. When we ordered new uniform shirts, there were a couple of different styles. One of them (in the same size as the ones I've been wearing, which fit well enough) is pretty tight, and definitely runs small.
I texted my ... boss a picture, along with a request to exchange it. Her response was, "Are you working at a coffee shop or a Hooters?"
I laughed and brushed it off, but it hurt. Have you had a similar interaction with a boss? How did you handle it?

Oh jeez. I don't know how to handle a situation like that with your boss, honestly. I'd non-confrontationally explain that you are a self conscious of the way you appear in the shirt and that is why you were showing her and concerned about how tight it fits. Even if she meant it as a joke, it's insensitive and rude. But I'm always amazed at how many people think it's okay to comment, even jokingly, about women's breasts - especially big ones. The same goes for very thin women. There's this rampant assumption that all big busted or skinny (or both) women have a positive self image, so it's fine to make Hooters comments, or "hey go eat a cheeseburger" comments, and it couldn't be farther from the truth. Imagine reversing that comment towards a small chested woman. "Hey, where are your boobs under that tent-shirt??" That would absolutely not go over well, and you have every right to be hurt by her comment.

I want to apologize in advance if anyone feels this is an ignorant, insensitive or superficial topic. As someone who has never been pregnant but imagines it will be in her medium term future, what happens to boobs after pregnancy? The most common response I get from my mom or my aunts is that there will be changes, but that ... it won’t matter once you have a baby. I also get smacked in the back of the head or pinched for asking them so needless to say, I don’t really get the detailed answers I’m looking for.
So up until that point when my perspective changes, my curiosity remains. Do boobs become smaller than their pre-pregnancy size? Less dense? Does the shape change? Do roots get wider? Narrower? What about stretch marks on boobs? Nipple position changes? Is there volume lost in the upper fullness? Is it lost all around? What happens when baby weight is shed? What if no baby weight is shed? Is fatty tissue lost? How is glandular tissue affected? Might one need to change (not just sizes) but also bra styles post pregnancy?
I’m afraid that after all I’ve learned about my shape and what works best for my boobs, I will have to unlearn and start over again on my bra journey with unfamiliar boobsSo in fact, it is part curiosity, part concern for my bra situation/self-knowledge.

But the truth is, its different for different people.
For me, my boobs grew a cup size early in pregnancy, and another late in pregnancy, and another by the time the milk came in. And by the time I weaned, they only went down 2 cups, so I gained a cup size after each baby.
When you are pregnant or nursing, your boobs tend to be fuller. Generally after you are done being pregnant/nursing, they deflate some. Most women will not lose all of the baby weight, and that extra weight will likely include more boobs.
I've seen articles that say nursing doesnt make your boobs sag, its the pregnancy gain/loss of size that does, but I have no idea since I nursed each babe for years.
You can be almost certain that pregnancy and post-partum boobs will need different bras than you now have.
but life is all about change. Enjoy your youth . . . your body is most likely in the best shape it will ever be in.
Honestly, no 2 postpregnancy racks are the same.
A few generalizations hold true:
1/ If you bear children very young and/or your bewbs are very small and perky now, pregnancy will effect a greater transformation (whether they stay fuller due to weight gain, or if all weight is lost the skin will experience a lot of stretching etc.) Conversely if you already have large, heavy bewbs and are nearing 30 by the time you spawn, it's somewhat unlikely that you'll feel as traumatized by the changes. Mine pretty much doubled in volume through late pregnancy and early lactation, but the skin stretchage was nothing further than what had already been wrought by puberty-era growth and gravity. I had my first child at age 29, btw.
2/ Breastfeeding does affect the internal composition of the breasts (more glandular tissue and less fat) but has been found to have no effect on ptosis (sagging).
3/ A lot of people actually like their boobs as much or more after children/pregnancy. Some end up with larger or smaller breasts which can be a good thing just as often as it may be a bad thing for others (in terms of what they prefer, I mean). The skin is usually softer and less firm, but frankly this holds true of many other places on your body after expansion and retraction.
4/ The appearance of the areola and nipple also change, usually they become more pigmented and the skin there has some textural changes. Some people hate this, I personally was very happy with it as I previously had very tiny, almost white, down-pointing nipples and blue-ish areolas; after my first child they evolved to a warmer beige pink and my boobs now look like they are facing forward/up, which for some reason to me looks like they are "happier" (I know that sounds ridic but whatever).

This phrase keeps coming back to me - i forgot who said it. I think it was on a discussion of Curvy Kates newer models all having narrower wires.
I always thought that people wanted narrower/wider cups just because their boob shape was narrower/wider. Well, I guess I also thought of wider wires as more minimizing, because the ... boobs are smooshed flat and spread out.
But I'd never thought of that kind of positive - they wanted their boobs to look wider.
I started thinking about it more - and I guess if you have an hourglass figure (and maybe taller so you can see it more?) then the breasts being spread wider does a nice visual balancing of the hips, from a front view. A lot of the curvy kate models are that shape, arent they?
But for me - even with the narrowest wires I've found in a 32J, my boobs are still wider than my body by almost 2 inches. I'm short and rectangle-shaped . . . my hips are not particularly big, nor is my rear. But i have a HUGE belly that sticks straight out front. So having my boobs stick straight out front allows my shirt to drape down from them without touching the belly.
So having my boobs less spread out and more sticking out makes my entire body look narrower, and also camouflages my belly.
But for someone w a small waist and curvaceous hips and enough torso length, I can totally picture how having your boobs take up more width would be a much more aesthetically pleasing look

I had a similar realization awhile back. It's the reason I don't love my Ewa SM cut bra (even though it is the absolute sexiest bra ever made!!) because it pushes me too far toward the center, which is just not an ideal look for me from the front, but creates great cleavage. I have a smaller waist and a larger bum & hips, so I've found that bras that allow my boobs some width help balance me out and even further accentuate that hourglass look. I just bought a Fantasie Rebecca, which is a great example. It's such a granny bra, but under clothes is incredibly flattering for me. By some magic, it doesn't flatten me from the side view either, so I have to admit I'm really digging it.
SM is strange on me and I cant even quite figure out why. I mean, i only have one and its so incredibly lovely i want to keep it, but its to shallow at the bottom and rather flattening?
I have one S which i actually love except its too small. Next time they have a new one, I'm buying up a cup.
But Floris gives me the most projection, so is the most flattering under ordinary t-shirts. but my S is comfier and better for lower cut things.

Ok so after messaging in depth with a fellow user over a bra swap and reading an interesting user blog, I have a question about projection.... So I assumed my breasts were not projected because they are quite deflated and flattened out at the top of my chest however as another user phrased it projected means "the breasts do not ... hug/sit close to the chest wall". I thought my breasts were kind of pendulous fob deflated on top but now I'm starting to wonder if they are actually more even (kind of flattened out and deflated all over) and projected because when I bend over and let them hang, they hang quite low and my nipples point to the front (like fob shapes) and towards the right/outside of my breast. Anyone have any idea what this means? Am I more projected than I thought? I always assumed projected meant how much they jut out or more perky self supported and taking up forward space. I hope this makes sense. Why do brad have to be so complicated?! lol!!

I think you are right in thinking you are more projected. As far as I've figured out this rather mystifying concept of projection, it indeed refers to the breast tissue being more away from the body, and I think that includes more pendulous boobs that go down a bit more as well as self supporting boobs that go out. As far as the FoT/FoB thing goes, what I have found most helpful was not the bending over test (based on that I would be even), but how my boobs behave in bras, and they definitely behave more like FoT boobs (quad boobing, top edges of cups cutting in).
projected has nothing to do with self supporting. I'm 50 and nursed 3 kids. I'm a 32 J and my boobs hang almost down to my nipples. But they stick straight out from the bottom - cups that are shallow at the bottom of the cup and come out in a nice gentle curve dont work. I need a bra that comes straight out at the bottom.
but I guess there is a slight difference between 'immediate projection' which is what I described, projected at the bottom, and general 'projected' - which means that your boobs come away from the body rather than being spread out across your chest. Like the same volume of boob thats spread side to side, shallow and wide, vs narrow and sticking out more.

I think I've figured out my shape for the most part, but wish there was a website or program that helped you "design your perfect boobs". I would totally use to it to double check the terminology against my reality. (Yes, I know, you're perfect the way you are, it would just be abused, you can already check labels at ... BustyResources, blah blah blah) It would be like a CAD system, or like a sketch artist for the police, but for boob identification purposes! Using said terminology and measurements, you could put in your numbers, compare and choose traditional labels (such as inner fullness, pendulousity, etc), and it pops out a CGI, which you then verify against a mirror. It would eliminate the "my boobs look like that except for [blank]" factor you get when you compare your boobs with another persons.. It could then be linked to charts/spreadsheets created by users of sites like Bratabase to help you find bras that fit others with builds like yours.
Sigh. I really like coming up with ideas that require a lot of work and end up with little to no benefit to anyone, lol

there is some humorous irony in trying to fit the amorphous blobs of flesh that are breasts in to a precise and thorough model, but I cant think of how to reach it
I started buying bras in my proper size in August. Some 30Gs have worked well enough, but I found 28GGs worked well for me more consistently. I also bought one 28H.
The last two weeks, the 28H was all that fit without quad-boobing, although it was originally a bit too big in the cups. Yesterday and today I'm finding that ... I'm quad-boobing slightly in it.
Now, I know it's too shallow for my shape (Curvy Kate Tease Me half-cup) so there is a little bit of collapsed cup at the bottom where my boobs have too much immediate projection to squeeze into the bottom. But I had that before, and still couldn't fill out the 28H.
I also have hormone issues due to endometriosis, and may be having what my SO and I refer to as a "dry period" meaning I'm having all the other issues of menstruation but not actually bleeding. Aside from waiting a week or two, how do I know if the growth is permanent or just part of hormone fluctuations?

Ugg, wish I knew. I finally came to accept that my boobs are big during PMS and the first 2 days, but now they seem more bigger. All the time. I'm working my way towards menopause, so I'm wondering the same thing - as hormones keep shifting, will they go back down? Or do I need to start ordering all my bras up another cup?
@dbmamaz Right?! Because of my hormone issues, either my period or associated affects will sometimes last up to 10 weeks at a time. No joke. I'm going into week 3 of "dry period" symptoms, and while I love this bra I had a nip slip in it this morning (first time since I got ABTF) and my boobs aren't fully secured in any of my others, either. I've kinda gotten hooked on having good support! But even with the new quad-boob in the H I keep thinking, "I can't go up to a 28HH, they're not big enough for that." Letter-phobia: not just for newbies. Lol!

So here's to my first adventure post! Sorry, its a little long (ok a lot long), but if anyone can explain/define/math it, I will love you forever.
Ok, here goes: I would like to know how projection is defined. The ABTF offers some comparison between shallow/slightly projected/projected shapes, but they're all around a 28DD.
Venusian Glow offers some shallow examples ... but only one one in the upper cup range (28HH) (http://www.venusianglow.com/2013/03/examples-of-shallow-breasts-nsfw.html). Is there such a boob as a shallow 36K? Or are all K cups considered projected? But obviously, not all K cups are the same. Some people fit in a Parfait Charlotte, others in EM or unlined Freya or Panache etc.
So what is the defining factor between shallow and projected? Is it a ratio between boob perimeters (vertical vs horizontal)? Is it a ratio between boob width/height (maybe estimated by preferred wire width) and perimeter? I know a suspect for shallow boobs is tall boobs, or wide boobs (but not always). So are most projected boobs short? narrow? both? And there are always exceptions. What makes an exception? Also, conical? What makes a conical boob? Are conical boobs projected? or not? or either? Do soft/firm boobs find it easier to transition between shallow/projected bras despite being one or the other?
I've seen some posts/reviews/adventures/etc around where people state that they have projected boobs, but then they can't fill out an unlined Freya (it's too deep). But if you were projected, wouldn't you want a deep cup? So does that make that bra a super-projected option, or are the boobs in question simply of average projection? Or is it because Freya tends to offer a lot of immediate projection which the user doesn't need? Or is it the Orange-in-a-glass effect? Or does OIG occur because boobs are too firm to be squeezed into a narrow projected bra?
How do you distinguish between two people with the same projection, but one needs it immediately while the other can wear bras that are shallow at bottom? Do firm projected boobs need more immediate projection than soft projected boobs? Or is it the pendulous boobs that need immediate projection? Can soft boobs or pendulous boobs get away with a shallow bottomed bra if there is more projection up top?
People seem to talk about how Cleo can be a projected option, but when I compare them to unlined Freya, their projection (apex?) is much higher and the bottom of the bra is often shallow. I know this creates an appealing round shape vs the more natural look of unlined Freya, but why are they lumped under the same category (projected) when they are so different? Especially when some unlined Cleos are way more projected than others.
Is there a specific cup depth to wired width ratio for a bra to be considered shallow or projected? For that matter, why isn't cup height measured? So many cups are just too tall for me!
Teach me about the boobs. I want the math. I want to be able to calculate my boobies so I can buy them perfectly fitting pretty things.

Music videos, magazines, video games, tv shows, fashion billboards, celebrity gossip sites, instagram, etc.
When a certain look is being touted as "the ideal", it's normal to want to aspire to that. It's especially harder to ignore these pressures at a younger age when you are just figuring yourself out. Just remember that times change and what's "in" will also change. But bodies are not easy to change like your wardrobe.
One thing I've figured out is that the desire to "fix" something about oneself is not rooted in just some physical attribute. Once that thing is "fixed" another physical feature will pop up on top of the list of things to fix. So the topic that really needs to be addressed is self perception. It sounds corny, but be happy with yourself. It's impossible to keep up with living someone else's life.

I think I actually got some PMS boob swelling this month. It's a little strange, and I'm not 100% sure it's just that; I wore my 30F - Fauve » Coco Padded Half Cup Bra (0251) all day today and noticed that, while there is slightly more emptiness in the top of the cup than usual, it ... is a little tight at the seam where the side panels and wings meet under my arms and I seem to have a teensy bit of breast tissue trying to escape over the top where the wires are pressing in today. Most noticeably, though, it is pressing and uncomfortable at the center gore and makes me want to bend the wires out when they otherwise don't bother me, and I'm not really sure what exactly that indicates. I am definitely going for my much stretchier and plunge-ier 32DDD - Natori » Sheer Jacquard Full Fit Contour Underwire Bra tomorrow for some relief, though.

I was getting all depressed that my new bras didnt fit after all every month, until ppl here made it clearer to me what was happening. Now I start wearing a bra thats too big and another thats comfy but doesnt fit at all, around my period, and i'm much happier lol
I rarely seem to have any noticeably swelling, as far as I can tell. I've been on the Pill for a few years to help manage cramps and things, and I guess it's been pretty effective in all respects! (It also bumped me up 3 cups, which turned out to be very expensive!)
Then again, maybe I do get some monthly bloat, but it's those days when the gore starts to irritate me out of nowhere and I just don't register it.
This has a (bra related) point, I promise.
A few years ago, I decided/realized that I don't usually photograph well, even though I am attractive. So I blamed it on the prevalence of airbrushing, filters, and my disregard of daily makeup, and tried not to be so unkind to myself when I disliked my (rare) selfies. Which is fine when I'm ... talking about my face.
But how, by all that's busty, do I take better body selfies? Every time I try to take a picture of a bra that I'm wearing, I end up with shots that either fail to show the problem, or they make something else look more problematic than it actually is. Obviously I can include notes, but any other tips, such as mirror usage, best arm angles, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

if you're using a cell phone camera, set the phone up on a small bean bag or something to keep it stable. Put the phone right in front of a mirror, this way what you see in the mirror will closely resemble what is captured with the camera. Set the phone to voice control so you can command the phone to take the picture by speaking. I have a droid phone and the voice command is "capture". I make sure that no one is within ear shot when i do this because i feel weird talking to my phone.
The other thing to keep in mind is lighting. Lighting can make or break a photo, be aware of shadows that are being cast by the lighting, Digital cameras, especially on phones will adjust the exposure for the brightest area in the photo so any shadows in the image will be really really dark. And white balance on the camera can make colors and skin tone way off (but that is another topic you could spend days talking about).
Omg, i didnt even realize you could set up the phone that way and voice activate - i have still been using it by holding it lol.
my photos in the mirror are never sharp (i have a cheap phone). But i just try to find the angle that makes the flaw look as clear as possible and make sure to take the pic from that angle.

In science class, we were taught Density = Mass/Volume, but that's not exactly how we think of boobs. For me, at least, I kinda just cup them and try to guess if they are heavy for their size. When we state that our boobs are dense or not dense, I assume density is a comparative term rather than something absolute. ... No one actually knows what is unequivocally defined as dense. Are my boobs denser than average? What's average? What's normal? I just know I haven't squeezed enough other boob in my life to make a proper assessmentGod forbid I'm going to ask someone I'm dating to tell me if he thinks my boobs are denser/heavier than normal lol ... or should I?

I wrote a couple months ago about coming off Xulane patches. I know at least one person wanted to know how I fared, so here goes.
I just finished my second cycle w/o the hormones. I have not had any boob loss, in fact, I've had a fractional gain. Likely leftover from my period, hard to tell. I haven't had any ... weight loss either. My waist to hip difference has passed 13". It was ~11" pre-birth control. I look like a fat Betty Boop. XD
My acne has returned, which sucks. And my libido hasn't, which sucks more. My periods returned almost completely back to normal immediately other than the timing, which scared the crapola out of me. 5 days late the first month, yikes!

when i went off BC years back, i had really bad acne and found that taking a tablespoon of flax seed oil every day cleared it up, it takes a week or so to get the toxins in ur skin all "pushed" out. but it's worth it! :)
I've been thinking about getting off BC (the pill, in my case, which has cleared up some acne but also makes me crazy around good old PMS time) and have been nervous that my size could change as well - mostly that I'd shrink and that all my bras would be totally different. I'm glad to hear you haven't had that experience!
