Every year around 4th of July I go through important things like insurance stuff, safety stuff, emergency plans, etc. I checked the smoke detectors and fire extinguisher and realized I should go through my "Go Bags." We live in a state that snows in the winter and is on fire in the summer and we've lived in a building where ... an apartment caught fire and we were displaced for some time so I'm cautious and over prepared. I keep one in the car and one in the closet next to the door and in the event of an emergency it can be grabbed as I run out the door and they have paperwork, a towel, extra clothes, etc. in them. I checked the Go Bags yesterday and found two bras that I don't even remember ever buying or wearing! Both 36D Bali bras that maybe fit me at my heaviest, but probably didn't actually fit. I had a great laugh about it and replaced the clothes and bras with things I don't wear or need and I've spent the day trying to figure out where they came from and I'm stumped!
Another thing I never thought I would do: add a list and photos of bras into my home inventory sheet for renter's insurance purposes. Since my bra drawer is all Polish these days, I separated them from clothing and individually photographed them. If I ever lost my entire bra collection to an unexpected circumstance, I would want to replace them and paying my insurance deductible would be cheaper. Not something I would have expected to ever do in my life lol
So for those who have bras they never wear and/or like to be prepared- have an emergency bag and put a bra in it! I can say from experience that standing outside in the middle of the night for hours after a fire with no bra or jacket is not a great experience. And if my apartment had been damaged and I had to stay at a hotel/temporary rental, I couldn't have gone to a Target and purchased a bra in my size, so I find comfort in knowing that my bras are protected, and if I needed it, my boobs would be supported in an emergency.
