This bra is my best fit so far (now that I've gone up about a cup size). It is pretty comfortable. I can't remember feeling so secure in a bra. It is comfortable after 8 hours of wear and doesn't feel like it's digging in. The band is snug but not painful, the shoulder straps just the right length and I can wear it all day with ease. I recently went to a bra boutique to get re-sized and this was the bra I walked out with. It's a good T-shirt bra that you can wear everyday and has a nice, subtle embellishment with the lace at the ...side. I got the black colorway with the grey and black lace trim.
My only issue with the bra is that since it's wide in the cup, it tends to distribute my breasts differently, so they don't seem as rounded as they do in my Freya bras (which give a really nice round shape). I would recommend the Amelia if you want a comfortable, serviceable, every-day bra that holds the girls securely and isn't overly plain. If you like the "orange-in-a-glass" or "cupcake-on-a-plate" look, this bra won't give you as much of a rounded, front and center projection as some other brands will. The shape is more east-west than my Freya bras. I feel like it minimizes rather than projects.
Overall, it's a great, basic bra that you can wear with most of your wardrobe. I bought it because I was starting to have back pain from the new cup size and this bra really helps to minimize the discomfort in my back, so I'd also recommend it for anyone with large breasts who needs a bra that will give really good support.
This bra doesn't really have the depth at the wire I need, so it doesn't sit quite in my IMF. It seems more suited to full on top or centre full shapes rather than my bottom fullness. The wings are also quite high on me. It comes up higher under my arms than the Elomi Carmen, and even a bit more than the Amelia. The pattern is beautiful, as is the blue colourway. The fabric doesn't stretch, so it's quite supportive. Gives a nice rounded shape too. Wires are wide as with most Elomis.
I am a recent bratabase convert and have a lot to learn about bra-fit principles and best practices. So take what I say with a grain of salt. I bought this bra in two sizes, 42GG and 40GG. I first bought the 42GG and thought it was too big (but kept it anyways). So I sized down to a 40GG. This review is for both sizes.
The Matilda is a 4-part (counting the side panel) underwire plunge bra. The side panel and the lower cups are non-stretch fabric and the top cups are non-stretch sheer panel with “stunning beaded lace embroidery”. There is also an “opulent silver ...ring detailing”. Both the “stunning” and “opulent” elements are a tad cheesy so you should not get too excited about them. The non-stretch sheer panels might seem a little flimsy (it is a single layer bra) but it works well for me, but I am not full-on-top and I do not need as much support where the fabric seems flimsy. (Flimsy is not the best word to use, but I am leaving it). This will be a good bra to wear in the summer time. I do think that the non-stretch element is what saves the day.
Both of my Elomi Matilda bras are my favorite bras. Both the 40GG and the 42GG seem to fit, both are comfortable, and both give me the support, lift and shape that I want. This speaks well for the flexibility of the design of this bra because I have two different sizes that are not sister sizes and I am satisfied with both. Two thumbs up.
I see you also tried Carmen, and are going to go up in the cup. How do you think this compares to the Carmen? It is currently my favourite bra, in 42G. It fits pretty well, but perhaps needs a bit more projection at the wire for me. I'm thinking of trying it in 42GG as well. Do you think Matilda might work for me too? It is pretty. I tried the pink in store, but they only had 42HH, which was far too big. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks for your comment. I really liked the Carmen! The fabric was nice and the color was really pretty (red poppy). Unfortunately the cup was too small on the side. I read at herroom that you should go up one cup size (i read this after I ordered the vra). The fabric of the carmen seemed alot sturdier then the fabric on the Matilda. Although the Matilda's fabric was non-stretch whiich helped it to be sturdier. I only tried on the carmen but I liked it. Yes, i think you should try the Matilda.
Carmen in red poppy is such a lovely colour, isn't it! I've read a few reviews where people didn't like the fabric, saying it was too stiff, scratchy and felt cheap. Personally, I quite liked it. My boobs are quite soft so I need firm, non-stretch fabric at the bottom to keep them contained and locked down. I have really short roots, so the stretch at the top, especially the elastic, suits me fine. Have you seen the new style coming in either December or Jan, the Maya? It looks to be based on Carmen, or possibly Betty/ Anushka. It's white with a pink and green flower print, and pink lace at the top. I think the print is called sweet pea. It is sooo pretty. I can't wait till that one comes out. Thanks for the advice. I think I will get Matilda, in either black or pink. I hope the Carmen fits you in the next size up if you decide to reorder it. Best of luck.
I just googled the Maya bra and its so pretty! It reminds me of the Valentina that is the only bra I still use that is pre-Bratabase meaning I really like it. I hope you like the Matilda if you get it! Good luck back at you!
Love the bra. Very pretty. Good support. Seams somewhat visible under certain tops but I'm ok with that https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" />
Trying on this bra new reminds me again of why it is the one of the best bras on the market for larger women. Everything is soft, comfortable, and supportive, as well as beautiful. The band is firm with wide elastics. The cups have an amazing amount of immediate and apex projection. There are real fit issues which take away from these facts, but if I were a splayed, wide set, FOB kind of gal, this would be my bra every day.
Fortunately for me I've come up with the solution to make this 100% my best bra for a close set, narrow, FOT like me: narrower, firmer wires, turning the cups into plunges, and narrowing the gore. This creates the perfect bra, and I've been successful with two of them that I already had, see: 42H - Elomi » Amelia Spacer Moulded Bra (8740)
It seems that Elomi is now making bras with uncomfortable fabric. This bra is made of a plasticky laminate that feels like canvas. It's quite durable and provides great lift. However it feels gross. The band is a nice comfortable Elomi band, although my experiment with this bra to see if I needed to size up in band or cup or both at this point led me to buy a 42 band which stretches to 45 inches. I don't need a band that big, and I feel comfortable saying I am definitely a 40 band still. The bottom of the cup is ...not projected enough and I get wrinkling at the side of the bra and quadding at the top, so this is obviously a shape issue. I probably still fit a 40H in Elomi, although a 40HH might also work.
This bra suffers from all the usual Elomi problems: it's too shallow at the base, is built for women who have average to tall, average to wide roots, and is super pointy. I've yet to meet an Elomi made for FOT wearers, and that's why I get quadding at the top edge of the cup where there is a bit of elastic. Like all Elomi bras the gore is wide and isn't great for center full or close breasts. To me this is not a plunge bra, either, with a 3.5 inch gore. The 40H - Elomi » Carmen Plunge Bra (4010) was way more plunging on me, but also suffers from fabric troubles. The wires are unusually firm for Elomi. They almost feel like Panache wires and are quite U shaped. The apex is quite high and points up rather than out so I get rocket boob in this, a lot like the 38J - Panache » Thea Balconnet Bra (9261).
I thought I would like this colorway but the pops of neon green make it less classy. There's not a lot about this bra I like, sadly. Read more 243 more words
Great review even though it does not work for you! What is up with the band stretching so much? 👎 I do not care for the color either. Elomi I used to watch but have stopped. Like you say their fabric is lacking for the prices of their bras!
Although the band stretches a lot Elomi's feel firmer than other brands' bands. I'm not sure why. Maybe the mesh is firmer. I know their elastic is wider than most, which does feel nice. But yeah I was looking forward to some of their upcoming styles but now I'm not as much. :(
Me either and it's too bad as they are trying to cater to larger sizes but we want nice materials too 😉 Their underwires I don't like as much either. At least we tried?
I tried on both of my Elomi bras as soon as I got them, and I am in love. This one, however, is my personal favorite.
It has the most amazing fit I have ever gotten from a bra. I said that for the other one, but that's because I was stuffing myself into Ds when I should've been wearing Hs the whole time!
The gore tacks, I fill everything out perfectly, the separation is perfection (no more rashes/chafing!) and oh, is it cute. I love the scalloped edge. The straps fit great, as does the band. I couldn't ask for a better fit.
This bra is adorable in the light pinky shade. There's just such a cutesy feel to it that I was never able to get with my old Walmart bras!
It does have that satin sheen to it, which some people hate, but I think is gorgeous, especially in this color scheme.
The upper half of the gore (the very tip) did not tack, which didn't seem to be a fit issue so much as the way it was made or used before it got to me. However, it isn't very noticeable, and it doesn't show in shirts, so it doesn't really matter.
Overall, the fit is perfect compared to my 44D days, and I would totally get more bras from this company if I had the cash. This one was very well made and super comfortable.
PROs - * A plunge bra that fits and is quite comfortable!!! * My breasts are supported by the band and wires rather than being held up by the straps. * My two friends feel completely supported and stay put without either feeling constrained. * No spillage when I bend over, a problem I've had with other plunge bras. My breasts remain right where they belong. * The cup shape and placement mimics my natural shape and looks great under a shirt (or without a shirt https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_razz.gif" alt=":-P" /> Ha ha!) * It's not only functional. I think it's very ...sexy. * The price was quite reasonable for such a well fitting foundation garment. ($44.35 including shipping via Amazon seller Her Room)
CONs - * Although cute, the two little bows on the straps where they meet the top of the cup are a bit of an overkill IMHO. Plus, they show above my the top of my fun summer shirts (crossover empire waist with spaghetti straps). I think I'm going to snip them off.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the look at fit of this bra. Now to search is on to find one in my size in both raspberry and turquoise. Read more 104 more words
I've just bought this beam but so far it seems to be a great fit. I am breastfeeding, so I have pretty lopsided breasts right now, and even with that being the case, my smaller breast fits nicely in the cup with no gaping at the top. The bra stays in place when I lift my arms. I love the fact that it has hooks on the straps to hide under a tank top!
The undersides are a smidge too long, but I don't think that will be an issue overall. The band rolls up slightly under the cups, but the bra fit so nicely everywhere else I'm willing to deal with that.
I'm editing this review. After much deliberation I bought it on ebay for $25. Things to note about this bra: it runs a cup size big for Elomi. I fit a 40H in Elomi, and a 40HH in Panache and Curvy Kate. It has soft seam free cups and an inside sling to move the breasts from the armpit. It fits wide like Elomi usually does, and the gore is fairly wide and high, so the breasts remain very separated and slightly East West. However, the side sling keeps my breasts pointing mostly forward and not under my armpits. Around the ...edge of the whole bra which means under the armpits and along the strap edges there is a very soft smooth satiny fabric rather than itchy lace or decoration, which means that even though the straps are fairly wide set and the wing is wide and comes up near my armit and cuts into my pectoral chub, there is no rub or irritation. The wings are made of non-stretch fabric, and then attached to a firm stretch fabric on the back. So the band is less stretchy than a lot of bands in this size and on the first day felt a little too firm. On the second day on the first hook it feels perfect. The non-stretch wing and firm band ensures the wires don't bend back with the band, and the wire is the same width today as it was the day I bought it, and does not appear to mold to my body like other Elomi wires besides the Etta (I like firm, non-bendy wires, but YMMV). The straps are fairly short and only semi adjustable. They are very wide, flat, and firm on top.
The overall fit and feel of the bra is locked in. I feel strapped in like in an encapsulation sports bra. While my soft breasts do have some bounce in the bra, it's nothing like my open cup Panache. Everything is very firm and close to the body, not projected and open. Because of this I quad out slightly on my larger side and have cup space on top on my small side. Due to the shape of my breasts this is something that I expect all bras to do, so it's not a big deal to me. The quadding only occurs during the day and is easily smoothed. Due to the fact that the bra is not meant for a FOT shape, like all full coverage bras, on my big side I get a slight ski slope shape, but on my small side which is more even I get a really nice "green" shape.
The overall appearance is a rounded shape with an apex, very smooth and minimized rather than projected, but there is still room for projection. I am probably a bit too projected and definitely too narrow for this bra, but it's worth it for the profile under clothes, especially all my summery fitted white tops. It is perfectly seamless and a good "nude" for my fair skin. Because it doesn't push my breasts into my armpits the width is not an issue either. I'm so happy to finally find a seamless nude bra so I can wear all my white and cream summer shirts again! Read more 462 more words
Best Elomi bra for narrow breast roots, one of the few bras I own where the straps won't fall off my narrow shoulders. The band is not as long or stretch as much as other Elomi 40 bands I own. The shape is a rather unfortunate pointy 1940s look. The seams are thick and the horizontal seam will show under most clothes. The embroidery on the transparent portion of the cup can be itchy. There's a J hook for racerback.
This bra has atypical Elomi wires that do not stretch back and mold to the body. The wires are instead firm and quite narrow for Elomi, making them similar to Panache and Curvy Kate. The center gore is fairly low as well.
This bra produces nice rounded breasts but is wide set and built for wide roots. Under the lace is a satin non-stretch panel that is supposed to pull the breast forward. On my soft breasts it creates a line dividing my breasts which is sometimes noticeable. The lace can be scratchy under the armpit.
This bra has the typical soft Elomi wires that stretch back and mold to the body so if you need wider wires and prefer molding wires this is a good choice for you. Keep in mind that the projection forward may change as the molding happens however, especially if you have a lot of forward projection rather than side projection.
This particular bra is less pointy than other Elomis I have. I'm wearing it with an extender because it is a sister size down from my usual Elomi size. I think my larger breast is slightly too big for the bra, but it's not as bad as other brands, because I think Elomi generally runs a half cup bigger than other brands. I might also turn this into a half cup plunge by cutting off the netting on the top and the wires in the gore. I did it with another Rita but it's too small now. It worked much better as a ...half cup for me than a full coverage bra however. This bra also has closer set straps so it's very comfy for narrow shoulders. It has a J hook to convert to racerback as well.

I find this too tall for myself, but I kept it as it gives me a bit more freedom with my shirt choices than my goddess bras. The band is very stretchy, as I measure 45 inches underbust, but would have been more comfortable in a 40 band in this bra.
I both love and sometimes hate this bra. The cups, band, straps, and center gore fit perfectly. It looks nice on, but isn't overly flashy and gives a nice silhouette. It is very well made and the material is sturdy, so it should hold up well over time. There is only one downside, the underarm wire. Sometimes it is fine, sometimes just slightly uncomfortable, and at times it is downright painful. The wire goes up too high on the underarms, but usually sits close enough to my ribcage that it doesn't hurt. Other times the very end of it slips outward a bit and starts jabbing me painfully in what I call my "underarm love handles."
